To calm him down he needs to hear firm but calm voices. I wouldn't engage in arguing with the child. It helps when you let them know ahead of time you only get so many minutes of TV & give them a 5 minute warning . We used to have a timer & set it and show the child it's set. He sounds tired. Sounds like my 4yo, though, I wouldn't classify it as a temper tantrum, just expressing sadness in an unfiltered form. I used to argue with her, now I just remind her what the rules are and see if she needs a hug/ remind her that it's ok to have feelings and remind her why we do things the way we do (such as it's so she doesn't get hurt or we need to be efficient due to a time limit). Sometimes I tell her about how I had to do the same thing and how it made me feel/ how my mom did things about it.
