    Fair play to Gordon for not downplaying Galvao's achievements here.

      He's basically respectful to everyone in the game until they badmouth him. Look at the way he talked up Nicky Rod too. Hard to fathom how it's gone completely off the rails now

  • @user-uk9er5vw4c
    @user-uk9er5vw4c 2 ปีที่แล้ว +82

    I like he's not just trash talking, he's more mature and evidences others' strengths as for Nick Rod or Andrè
    I liked his ADCC rank too: Marcelo, Roger, Rafa, Andrè

    • @MontCoRealtor
      @MontCoRealtor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Agreed, This is the best version of Gordon Ryan. Dont get me wrong, I love when he kicks up the trash talk. But to also see this side of him as a mature, top-of-the-game competitor and leader, it's inspiring. And it is very clear that he is a student of the sport. He isnt just a dude that crushes everything. He really studies the Art and its best

    • @kaibe5241
      @kaibe5241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trash talk is just to rile up fighters to get a crowd. He's being a smart businessman.

    Some of the best advice I’d say I ever received is that you shouldn’t focus on the color of your belt. Throughout my journey in Judo and at the beginning of Jiu Jitsu I would focus on the belt to much to dictate how good I was. When you focus on building skills is when you really start to elevate your game. Ever since that advice I’ve evolved myself and at a faster rate 💯 👏

    I'm so hyped for ADCC this year and I don't even train jiu jitsu but understand it, know all about it, and have been following the sport since 2020. If people like me are this freaking hyped over it you know it's about to leak into the mainstream any year now.

    • @mattw4833
      @mattw4833 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Great to be a fan, but "understand it, know all about it" and don't event train?
      No. Go to a gym and get on the mats mate.

    • @Seegie16
      @Seegie16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thats pretty rare for a non bjj student to become a fan of the sport. Now do yourself a favor and start training youll love it and you have a good head start over the typical white belt hobbiest because you actually watch and understand what you are watching.

    • @adrianarroyo937

      I get what you all mean, but it feels odd when you compare it with other sports. Couldn't you say you understand baseball, and know all about it without actually playing baseball? Or basketball, football, soccer, boxing, tennis... We shouldn't be this dismissive with people who just enjoy being spectators. You certainly can understand the objective in JJ, and know all the famous grapplers, their strengths and weaknesses, and enjoy their matches without having to train yourself. Maybe Demetri would enjoy training JJ? Maybe. But that's a separate issue, and he shouldn't be pressed to train because "he can't be a real fan otherwise"

    • @Andy_Classic
      @Andy_Classic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@adrianarroyo937 exactly what I was thinking.
      There are so many experts in every other sport and they don't play it.
      We gotta stop this "if you don't train you don't know" B.S.
      Obviously there are things that we on the mats would understand better than the average Joe but damn we don't have to attack this poor person just because they choose to be a fan.

  • @Chris-vc1jj

    This Gordon Ryan, speaking about Nicky Rod, is the most terrifying of all the others. All Facts, all Respect, and why, as much as I appreciate Nicky Rod this year, he has a mere 10% chance of defeating Gordon Ryan. Nicky Rod in two years will be incredibly formidable, and with his trajectory and Gordon Ryan's both continuing to ascend, Nicky will narrow the gap. Gordon is slightly luring Nicky Rod with the physicality aspect because it will present issues, but it also presents opportunities. I enjoy the fact that Gordon Ryan always engages in mental games.

    The best piece of advice I have been given is a little cliche, but as a white belt, my professor told me to focus on incorporating the technique of the day in live rolling. It’s something I knew I should be doing but never really did. This has helped me improve so much and I don’t get subbed anymore trying techniques I saw on instagram.

    The best advice I have ever gotten is to realize the most precious commodity we have isn't money, wealth, cars, women, etc......it is time. Time is finite, it's fleeting, once a moment has passed it's gone forever. Given that time is the most precious thing we have, you should only spend time on things that will advance you as a person whatever goal(s) you have.

    Jiu jitsu is weird, in any other combat sport like MMA, Muay Thai, or boxing if you are caught having a fake match or throwing a fight there are major repercussions like fines and even sometimes jail time like in Thailand a Thai fighter was caught throwing a fight and now he's sitting in jail for a year because of it but in jiu jitsu it's just normal for teammates to meet in a bracket and decide who they want to proceed on with the tournament, I'm glad they are starting to crack down on that shit but it's super weird that the people who run the tournaments allowed that shit to go on for so long

    Need to stop butt scooting and this thing where they sit Indian style. As a combat sport that is weak AF. I have a purple belt with a bunch of stripes, im well aware of the reasoning people give for this, my opinion is it’s unacceptable and it won’t be a good spectator sport until butt scooting stops and takedowns are part of the game, not some area of the fight that you can just avoid by sitting down
