8 MONTH UPDATE 2/24/2023 - First, my apologies for forgetting to include the alternator check feature 🤦♂ It seems to work fine, but I also don't have any vehicles with dead alternators... Secondly, I've gotten a lot of comments below that people have had issues with this unit. I wanted to provide an update - today, I used it to jump start the red Ford Ranger shown in the video, and it had been sitting in the back of the cab since shortly after this video was published. It was fully charged at that time. 8 months later, without having plugged it in, it started the truck without issue. The truck battery was reading about 11.4V, just low enough that it wouldn't turn over. I'm not saying I recommend this unit based on the feedback from others, but I just wanted to provide this data point. YMMV!
I also had good experience with this all-in-one unit. I had it unused in back of my car for about 6 months and it still inflated a tire from flat just fine.
I’ve had mine for well over a year (almost 2 years) Between me and my son it gets used at least every two weeks. My son uses it for his moped, which loves to Drain batteries. He also is always putting air in the tires of that or his minibike. I’ve used it multiple times for either air in the tires mine or somebody else’s. It’s jumped countless cars trucks and SUVs and it’s been used several times while camping to run a 27 inch TV and charge phones. So needless to say, we have been pleased with the unit and its performance, that is up until recently. We live in South Florida so the hurricane is getting ready to send us some nasty weather. I went to charge the unit up just to be prepared and it won’t charge. It lasted approximately two years so I am happy with the results I did get out of it.
Yeah I’d say that’s a win. You can’t buy those features separately for that total price. On top of that it does it all reasonably well with good warranty and support. My only complaint is it doesn’t use 20v tool batteries.
I own one. Bought it used for $50. It always jumps my car never fails. The tire inflator takes what seems like forever to inflate from dead flat to 35psi and if it doesn’t have a full charge, it might die before you get there. USB is never a problem. Lights never a problem. Never used the alternator charger. Never put anything more than hair clippers on the inverter and it did fine for that. It does take way too long to fully charge and it’ll come close to losing its charge in a month of non-use. It was worth $50 and I’ve had it almost a year. I wouldn’t replace it with a brand new one. I’d buy something else. It’s too damn heavy. Keep in mind, mine is probably right around 2 years old. I keep it charged in the vehicle by using a separate 750 watt 12volt outlet inverter. Which charges it fine as long as your driving but slow just sitting in idle. Hope this helps. Edit: added info and corrected some spelling.
I bought one of those, a different model, it cost $180 and it quit working after 3 months, I used it 5 times. After doing some research I found out stanley had a jump pack that although looked completely different was basically the same at only $50 at Sam's club and that one last 2 years so far.
See you on the next one buddy. We use the flexvolt advantage 2.5 gallon compressor for our truck and trailer tires. It’s a must have on our work truck man. Not as fast as corded larger compressors but it’s good enough and beats finding a power source and running cords. Especially if you get a flat driving down the road. Nice review man👌
Thanks for watching! Although I would scroll the comments section here, not everyone has had good luck with this unit. Keep your receipt just in case 👍
my credit union rewards account had enough points to get one for free. it beats the Ford tire inflator that came w my 2019 gt mustang, which was a joke. like anything else got to charge it once a month. I just wanted it for emergencies. I have AAA premium roadside service. A lot of positive and negative reviews. lease I got it new for free. I 'll donate the ford inflator to Good Will.
If you buy one of these...be sure to test all the functions before the warranty runs out... Like anyone, I cycled through all the functions when it was new (the pump turns on and blows air). I made the mistake of not inflating a tire until I really needed to...which was 10 months after purchase... With no tire connected, pump turns on and blows air...but when connected to a tire with 20 PSI, it shows over 120 as soon as the pump turns on....and shuts down. So ultimately I have a barely used, like-new product that won't inflate a tire... Not what you want for a roadside emergency. Other functions worked fine...but I never needed to jump start anything...so not sure about that function. Good new, product functioned perfectly during power outages, running a CPAP machine all night without any problems! Will see what Home Depot and Baccus are willing to do for me to get me a working unit.
I'm sorry to hear that! Good advice to test everything right when you buy something, I do that with Amazon and Harbor Freight purchases whenever I can since it's a very limited return window. HD if you use one of their credit cards you at least get a year to return. I wonder if the hose has an obstruction?
With hose attached to a tire with 35 PSI, the pressure display switches between 0 and 157.4...I guess it is a faulty pressure sensor. Globbus is fixing me up with free return shipping and a replacement unit. :)
I bought a DEWALT DXAEPS14 today. Was very disappointed, first thing had the wrong service manual for a completely different model, not a big deal.. When looking to turn on the jump option, found out that your battery has to have some charge in it, the jumper WILL NOT WORK ON A COMPLETELY DEAD BATTERY.I had another one I got a few years ago and it had a switch to turn on the jump option. That one worked great that way. I also was able to use it with my winch. I called their service tech. Was told that all of the DeWalts were that way [needing power to activate the jumper option]. I work on vintage cars as a hobby and needed it to able to jump a car with a dead battery. This unit is worthless to me.
I've not encountered a jump starter that will jump a vehicle with a completely dead battery. At a minimum you usually have to run a battery reconditioner on the battery first and then charge it for a while. Have you used jump starters that will do completely dead batteries?
Have you tried starting a car thru a dead battery? My last dewalt worked great. All i had to do was to turn a switch on to power up the jumper. Would start a car thru a dead battery. The same DeWalt would work my winch.
Glad it’s seemed to hold up for you. I checked an alternator and filled a couple tires and that was all I was able to do. Stopped holding a charge a few months into owning. By far the worst thing I’ve ever bought, can’t believe they put this garbage out
You heat test isn't just about wattage, it is also about amperage. A heat gun even if the voltage isn't so high the average is probably exceeding what the device is for. Even regarding power stations you're going to typically need close to 2,000 watts that will also supply enough amperage to not trip so easily so you don't over excel the wattage. I would seriously be majority impressed if that device would have gotten up 500 watts. at a price of under $200 bucks! I believe for what this is, it does a good job. I'd be curious if you can just run your own cables directly to the battery and charge it from a solar controller? I did that with a Maxx and it does very well. Much faster charge at least when the sun is out! and it doesn't take 2 freaking days if I only used the adapter the Maxx comes with. Why these blasted things are this freaking slow is beyond me. I guess you have to save money someplace?
I bet you could charge it with solar if you have the right barrel connector for the charge port and the charge voltage is reasonably within range of the oem wall charger.
I have this exact one and it sucks. Barrel jack was loose, opened it up to install the missing screw for it, some wires were pinched from factory. Internal battery didn’t have the advertised jump capacity. Aged battery from sitting on the homedepot shelf I guess. Inverter clicks off instantly even if you turn it on, plug in a cord and then turn on the item. I can’t even run a laptop charger to it on occasion without it going off randomly. A tiny 120V fan and a LED light bulb is all it’s good for. Compressor took ages to inflate a medium duty tire just 10 psi. (30 to 40 psi) I like Dewalt’s power tool line, but this thing is a genuine turd.
Was thinking of getting one, never read so many bad reviews about a product, amazon, walmart, Canadian tire. The general consensus is that it's nothing more than overpriced junk.
Yeah, I'm seeing that in the comments here as well, unfortunately. No issues with mine to date, but perhaps there are some QC issues where these are manufactured.
I’m happy with mine. It’s jumped my battery twice, kept my tire inflated after it caught a nail and I had to wait for the replacement to come in, and served to keep my phone and laptop charged in the days following Hurricane Ian.
I have uses unit for years. And the air compressor has worked fine, but now, all of a sudden, the tired indicator blinks and it does not turn on any help with this. Thanks
Models that have an anti-spark feature can be connected directly to the battery. They don't actually complete a circuit until after they're connected and sense the correct polarity. Otherwise, you should always connect the ground lead to exposed metal on the vehicle away from the battery; car batteries can offgas and a spark could ignite the vapors (although in reality I've never heard of it happening).
Being a contractor and having every dewalt tool this looked good, but a big turn off that you can’t use your dewalt batteries on it and are married to the life span of built in batts.
If you have any electrical skills so you do not to electrocute yourself. You can make your own cables and with a little modding and run them directly to the battery. Just beside you are using a proper controller that can either convert 120w AC into DC or maybe even using a solar panel with a controller that has 12 volt charging ability.
My bad, I didn't even realize I missed that and you're the first to mention it... Sorry about that. I didn't have a known bad alternator to test on anyway, though.
I have the older 2800A dewalt model. 5 years old. The compressor started to make noise and fail to reach pressure. The batteries are also now worn out. I took the unit apart and discovered the compressor cylinder head bolts were loose… easy fix, and… the batteries are standard electric scooter batteries available on Amazon which I have ordered. But… please note that the internals on these dewalts are what I would describe as cheap china crap. I would love to replace the compressor cylinder seals but unfortunately I was unable to find parts for the compressor. Knowing what I know now I think it is better to get a separate compressor and a separate booster and a separate battery power station. Or… get the booster and compressor combo then a separate power station. All in one has its appeal but lead acid batteries though great for boosting are crappy for AC/DC power supply compared to LiFePO4 and LiFePO4 batteries are not appropriate for boosting. The compressors in these things are so gosh darn convenient that you end up using them a lot… but… they are cheap flimsy things not designed for a big duty cycle so they do not last for more than a few years at best then if you want to service it parts are difficult or impossible to find. So… if you want to get into having one of these all in one booster compressor batteries you will be happy with the convenience of it but be advised that you really ought to accept having to replace it every 3-5 years.
I just got one and it won't pump up a lawn mower tire but half way, fully charged to dead in 45 seconds. Better off with harbor freight, sad to say and I've been dewalt for over 20 years. I've bought $5000 in dewalt this year, makes me wish I went another route. TRASH

Lol, I've had literally zero of these issues and the exact opposite experience.
Nice review!
did you test the battery capacity and amp hours in total?
500 watts peak is roughly equal to 353.5 RMS watts
How does the unit turn off? 🤔
Should it not, given the DeWalt name, use 18v/54v batteries to run it? At least then the charge time wouldn't be an issue.....
Yeah, I agree 🤷♂️

The tip inside the inflator is broken, replace the inflator tip on the end oh the hose and it should work
Hey man, does this actually charge your battery?
Nope, just a jump starter. Once the vehicle is started you'll have to let it run for a while so the alternator can charge it.
Thanks
i dont understand, some models indicate to connect to the chassis, why ? I have the 1400 amp with the dial in front

How many watts is your dump trailer supposed to use? Doesn't seem like an intended use case. It's a battery jump starter, not a battery replacement.

Why? Because it's nearly $200.00 Bucks !! 💸💸It also has some bad reviews on Amazon.
Worst issue is the 120 psi air compressor has a plastic gear that overheats and melts, renders the compressor unusable
Ahh, that would make sense with the issues others have mentioned in the comments.
