I'm really sorry to hear the story about the baptism, it's a completely out of line thing for the priest to do. Even if he may have disapproved of your interests or was one of the people who thought metal music was satanic (and chances are it was judged purely on appearance), there is no reason to judge someone so harshly as to exclude them from a ceremony like that.
As a Christian, he should have seen it as an opportunity to involve someone and make them feel welcome in the Church community, possibly opening the mind towards religion just a little bit then, and instead due to his own prejudice, he likely shut that door even more.
It's a huge shame and a huge disrespect overall.
Oh yeah I could definitely see how Rob Zombie and Iron Maiden would definitely be mistaken for some kind of voodoo worship imagery. Also Eddie The Mummy

Not even metal related, but I was almost not let into the DMV to get my new license because the security guard wanted me to name all the members of The Smashing Pumpkins before letting me in. I was wearing their merch, and I have bad anxiety so if you catch me off guard - I probably wouldn’t even remember my own name if you asked suddenly lol. Needless, to say I couldn’t get any words out and then he looked at me funny and said I shouldn’t be allowed to own my shirt and let me in. Big yikes moment lol

Your story about the baptism reminds me of my own somewhat awkward metalhead moment. I had recently made my first battle vest and wore it anywhere in public any chance I got. One day I was visiting my parents and they asked me to pick up my younger brother from his cross country practice. While I was there I ran into the reverend from my parents' church, since his son was also on the team. I had stopped attending church as a teen, and was a college student at the time, so the reverend hadn't seen me in a while and we caught up.
The entire time I was wearing my battle vest, which had several band logos with pentagrams. I just hoped he didn't see the patch on my back that said "Satan" (with the T as an inverted cross) as I left. Although I was obviously not religious at the time, I didn't have any personal beef with Christianity, not that my outfit made it obvious.
Ironically I am now converting to Catholicism and have made a few adjustments to that vest. At least Catholic priests don't marry or have kids so I don't need to worry about running into my priest picking his kids up from practice anymore lol
The community college I work at has some posers. One wore a Blind Guardian shirt, and another wore an Iron Maiden shirt - I complimented them for wearing the shirt to support the bands... and both said they got the shirt because "it looked cool" and had never heard their songs. That was excruciatingly awkward.

I remember one time in college, there were these military people handing out flyers to everyone who walked past them. Except me. I had my hair spiked up as always, one of my band shirts, my fingerless skeleton gloves, and my battle vest. I walked past them twice because they occupied that same hallway all day, they didn't bother me once. I guess they didn't think I was army material. Ya know what? They weren't wrong.

Im am constantly accused of being a satanist due to venom and bathory t shirts, all the girls at my school think im homosexual due to me having long hair, thight pants and black nailpolish, and people think i listen to the most horrid, discusting screaming noises, when i infact mostly listen to clean singing, thrash, power, speed, heavy and neoclassical metal.

Yesterday I played Darkthrone a blaze in the northern sky and Dark Funeral my funeral to a bunch of hillbillies and it was great also very awkward
One time i was at a bank machine in Scarborough, some guy was standing behind me trying to get my PIN. I turned around and he seen my t shirt and took off lol

I used to have a silver necklace w/ a pentagon star on it (upside up) and this older guy asked me if it was a Jewish symbol. I told him no and he told me I'd better take it off. It wasn't a pentagram like you have behind you in that it was up side up and no circle around it which is not associated w/ evil as far as I knew/know. I found it was more a symbol of power or magic (I didn't look any further than that afterwards or since). That threw me off initially, but the guy probably meant well. Just know what you're talking about before saying something like that.

I had a friend from Barbados, her second cousin was married to a Haitian. Unfortunately, the marriage did not work out and all of the family from Barbados were afraid that the in-laws were going to curse them. They take that shit seriously it was some real family drama!

Personal experiences...One of my most favorite shirts that I own is a pink Mayhem "Deathcrush" shirt(If you know, you know!!!). I have to be careful where I wear it because my mother is Christian and most of my beloved co-workers are as well. I'm in my 40's and still have to remind myself not to wear "offensive clothing"! What's that all about?!
I have worn all black since high school and I grew up in a rural town. One day in a mathematics class, some blockhead jock-types asked me why I wear all black. Without missing a beat, I said "I'm Amish.". They say "Why don't you go to Amish school then?". I reply, "How many Amish schools do you think are around here? Name one.". For the rest of the semester I could hear them behind me talking about "The Amish Girl".
Final one. My Metal friends and I go to a 24 hour restaurant called Steak & Shake after my ex and his friends had played a show. They were a Powerviolence inspired band. Our server, a very sweet Southern lady, says "You people must be in a band.". To which they reply "Actually, we are.". Sweet lady says "Do you play music like AC/DC?". This kid who was hanging out with us blurts out, "Have you heard of Anal Cunt? They sound like that.". Everyone except for that kid did a facepalm.

Man I always feel like I’m getting judged and looked at weird at my school all the time I hate it. I wear cannibal corpse, misfits, morbid angel, darkthrone etc. But still I love these bands so I want to express myself but idk feel like it’s a reason I can’t get a gf but I don’t want to change myself so idk what to do :\

The fact that most people both in and out of the community that are into holistic medicine, astrology, ghosts, magic, religion, conspiracy theories (and I mean those types are into it all not just one) also think I'm like them just because I'm a metal head. Yeah I like horror and dark things but I'm an atheist. Most of times I just smile and nod. I'm also really shy to connect to a fellow metal head that I see in the wild. So I just awkwardly look at them and their shirts while I try to play it cool but also try to make them see me, my battle vest or my phone playlist as we pass by.

Reminds me of the time. My sister invited me to Easter. I wore my Venom Black Metal shirt and her church group was there. And anytime I scared away Jehovah Witnesses.

I got one story. It was almost awkward.
I was walking to the library one day, cause it's within walking distance. I came across this one vehicle where this guy had a bunch of Black Metal band logos plastered all over the back of his window. He noticed me staring at the back of his car reading all the bands he had. He asked me what the fuck I was doing, and I told him I was just reading all the bands. I complimented him on it and he was relieved that I wasn't some religious nutjob.
The cheapest "ghost hunting" thing you can do is use a Balloon 😅
Nothing is scarier than seeing a balloon move "on its own" when you inside a hallway with no breeze 😱

I have two tales, first is when I wore my carpathian funeral shirt that says on the back "fuck the bible" and I left a fast food place when I could hear people talking about it. Second is when I went to the company Christmas party that has no stated dress code with my marduk "here's no fucking peace" shirt and had to turn it inside out.

I have a friend with an Uber Religious Mom, Uber Religious to the point that she used it to justify her not getting proper therapy for one of my friend's brother who is in his 20s with severe Autism and one time I recall us pranking her by turning one of the Crucifixes upside down on HIS wall in his room and he told us she flipped over it but also that it was funny.
I think i would have told the guy that if he didn't serve me I would put a curse on him.

I have collected so many religious pamphlets over the years based on guilt from my own experience handing out flyers to shows no one wants to go to. Lmao.
I don't normally have any awkward moments like this but, I did encounter a Christian person at the park this past fall when I was walking past him and his dog and I was wearing my leather jacket, skull necklace, leather skull gloves, studded belt, silver biker chain, and my Old Man's Child shirt, and as I crossed a bridge to get past him he asked me "do you know where you're going after you die?" and of course I said "well that depends" (because I'm agnostic and I even told him that) and that lead to a bit of an awkward conversation with him showing me christian videos on TH-cam involving the supposed "meaning" of YHWH (in which YHWH doesn't mean what he was showing me at all, YHWH is the exact opposite of holy, (but of course I didn't say that to him out of respect for his beliefs)). But yeah, that's my awkward experience.

I don’t think it was really awkward but one time I went to a Melissa Eldridge concert because you know I’m not just staying into metal even though I’m a metalhead and I was with my mom so we’re in line in these two older people come behind me and say, I think you’re in the wrong concert
I think the 2 most awkward moments in my metalhead life have got to be getting told to stop "corrupting" my younger cousin with my "demonic filth" (made really awkward by my young apprentice pointing out "we're only on Amon Amarth, we've got to get through b and c before we get to bands beginning with d")
Or being told by my toxic great aunt that metal is a gateway to other "unnatural, immoral practices"

I'm a metallhead in Russia and the most awkward thing that happened to me lately is that I bought cool camo pants , and I got jokes about me joining the military, which I don't support, and I am not even a guy I just liked the pants

Don’t worry about the Metalhead haters. It happens! You should see how some people treat Metalheads in Greece. Some people in Greece believe that if you are a Heavy Metal music or Rock music fan you are a satanist or a punk.
Personally, I had conversations with Christian Orthodox priests and monks, and they told me that they have no problem with Heavy Metal music as long as you are a good person.
Yeah our priests are really cool people,it's just the nutjobs they handpick for interviews that set the tone of hatred that are the problem. Because reporters are the scum of the earth and love a good drama.

most of my awkward moments involve me being autistic because people are assholes. They love to judge me because I’m different like one time in high school I was sitting with my friends in this girl decided to use baby talk as if I was a dumb person and I tried to talk to her and she acted like she couldn’t hear me.

Not metal related, but my previous comment also reminds me that there is a biker gang (as in a group of bikers, they're not criminals) in my church who wear their leather biker vests to mass sometimes. They look pretty tough but they're the nicest guys. It came to mind since bikers were the first subculture to wear battle vests.

Here in California I encountered these people in Anaheim at the City National Grove, music venue, event hall whatever the fuck... On a booth "Right Side" of the Lobby theres a small group selling or "giving VIP tickets" in exchange for Personal Information and then they give a raffle ticket 😅 fucking hell...
