  • As a teenager, B.J. Novak wanted a fake I.D. As an adult, he's confident the statute of limitations has expired.

Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

The scariest part of this is that "official" offices and workers (who are hired to protect citizens) are the real ones who got away with this felony. AND, it still happens.

The main problem is that the libraries polling records weren't kept in a locked file cabinet.

+Anner Chisline If someone meets the requirements per the procedures, then public service employees are required to follow the procedures. If there was any suspicion then obviously there would've been a problem, but the only suspicion was at the DMV when he already had all these documents and they saw that in spite of having the documents on hand, he didn't look like 21. And their suspicions where cleared when the library card seemed to confirm his identity. The public service officials, assuming they all followed the procedure of the time, were not wrong to serve this kid, it was the kid's fault for falsely impersonating another identity and using forged documents to do so.
This is why security is tightened now: when I applied for a library card, I needed to show ID. If you want a duplicate license, you need to answer questions to make sure you can't do what this guy did. A lot of government functions now require your social security number AND an ID. Beating the system was just barely possible when this guy did it, but he exploited every loophole in the book to make it happen. Those loopholes have been sealed shut. Now, you need a fingerprint to get a duplicate license, and the way fingerprint technology is, I'm certain red flags would show up if the print didn't match in the database.
