@@williamanthony2608 I think it's about the breakup of a relationship. People thought they had it all, but he couldn't satisfy her so he's breaking up with her and going back home on the bus. The big wheels are on the bus, and as he's going away he remembers scenes from their relationship, how it was disintegrating in front of him but he never saw it until it was over.
I sat and listened to this song in my car very early one morning alone. I had a lot of thinking to do, some decisions to make and I’ll always remember that time.
Along with 'Shangri-La' and 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head ', the most beautiful ballad ELO ever produced, and in the history of music. The late, great Kenny Everett loved it, as do I.
This song is fucking beautiful. Every time I hear the transition in the middle I shiver from a feeling I don't recognise, something like sadness combined with excitement- it's magical
This is one of the best underrated songs Jeff has written. Also one of my favorites. To truly appreciate the musical genius of Jeff Lynne, one must seek beyond what is heard on the airways. I can honestly say there is not a single bad song on any ELO album. I could listen to every one and still want more.

This song is the most devastatingly beautiful song I've ever heard. Gets me in the guts every single time, the entre album is a masterpiece. Just recently on May 18th it was the 7th year anniversary of the love of my life suddenly dying, unexpectedly. In an instant everything I th9ught I knew , everything that I loved, everything we had planned for our future was gone, poof. He was the love of my life, it was true love which I am grateful to have known, even if it was only for 20 years. I had just recently remarked on the very last time I saw him. This is what I wrote. ...and it still feels like this just happened, 7 years gone by without you. 7 seconds maybe...7 years? Nah, we were just laughing and singing together, planning our never ending tour bus road trip. When you were about to get out of my '97 Crown Vic for the last time, ( neither one of us could never have known it was going to be the last time, like the very last time we would see each other, be together, just finally content that we could really pull off this true love thing, together forever...but nooooo. fuck. ), Electric Light Orchestra 's "Out of the Blue" was playing in my car, you were almost out the door when "Big Wheels" came on. I grabbed your hand, I wouldn't let go. I can remember holding on so hard my hand began to hurt. I was singing that song to you and we were just bawling, like 2 grown babies, tears everywhere, cause really good music has that ability to make a grown person cry. I swear I should have never left go of your hand Scoop. I wish I never let you leave my car that day. This is not the way it was supposed to be for us. I miss you so damn much, it's like a hammer beating a hole in my heart all the time, it hurts like white heat. "Big Wheels" by ELO from the double vinyl album Out of the Blue. "(Big wheels keep turning They turn forever and ever) I've been thinkin' it over So many times they say you've got it made They never understand the answer lies within your soul 'Cause no one knows which side the coin will fall Big wheels turnin' Baby, I know (Or not at all) Big wheels turnin' Baby, I know (Or not at all) Big wheels turnin', turnin' Save it for a rainy day For when the cold wind blows, to see how they run I thought they'd know I tried my best, all I could do But somehow, it was not enough for you Big wheels turnin' Baby, I know (Or not at all) Big wheels turnin' (No, no, no) Baby, I know (No, no, no) Big wheels turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin' I remember the dead of night A lonely light that shines upon the window I see it all so clear, the tenderness, the silent tears Out here in the pouring rain Through cold, dark waiting days I see you standing there I see the big wheels turnin', never ending, on and on they go Oh, I think I'm goin' home I think I'm gonna have to start again It's rather sad, because I've looked around Can't seem to find whatever's always rollin' through my mind Big wheels turnin' Baby, I know (Through my mind) Big wheels turnin' Baby, I know (Oh, it's goin' through my mind) Big wheels turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin' I remember the dead of night A lonely light that shines upon the window Oh, I see it all so clear, the tenderness, the silent tears Out here in the pouring rain Through cold, dark waiting days I see you standing there Oh, I see the big wheels turnin', never ending, on and on they go." I never saw him alive after that day. 7 years? Even great music will never fill that hole in my soul...it helps, a lot though.
"I remember the dead of night!!!" That gut-wrenching, lamenting cry gets me every time. I've been the guy "Out there in the pouring rain" for just a glimpse of her through "the lonely light that shines upon the window".
Friends, between 2:05 and 2:10 we hear Jeff hitting a very high note, and it's simply one of the most beautiful musical sounds in history. Could his voice be any lovelier? It showed so much feeling.
RIP Richard Tandy. Thanks for everything.
This is one of Jeff's best songs ever from his greatest album ever. The 1970's was an epic decade for music!

"On the third Day"?
"Eldorado"?
"Face the Music"?

ELO is for people who like the musical part of music.
@Elish UH jams: that's certainly the relativist view of things, which I don't subscribe to. However, I wasn't making some sort of era-based criticism of other "styles." I'm talking about the fact that ELO's songs almost always emphasized melody, both instrumental and vocal, to a degree that most other bands never approach. It's an overload of exquisite note-sequencing that takes the brain on an amazing ride. I'll definitely say that music that just kinda thumps along with little variance pales in comparison.

The answer lies within your soul
Cause no one know which side

Big wheels turning
Baby, I know

Big wheels turning, turning
Save it for a rainy day
For when the cold wind blows
Just to see how they run

But somehow, it was not enough for you
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
(Not for you)
Big wheels turning (no, no, no)
Baby, I know (no, no, no)
Big wheels turning, turning
Turning, turning, turning
I remember the dead of night
A lonely light that shines
Upon the window
I see it all so clear
The tenderness, the silent tears
Out here in the pouring rain
Through cold dark waiting days
I see you standing there
I see the big wheels turning
Never ending, on and on they go
I think I'm going home
I think I'm gonna have to start again
It's rather sad
Because I've looked around
Can't seem to find
Whatever's always rolling
Through my mind
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
(Through my mind)
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning, turning
Turning, turning turning
I remember the dead of night
A lonely light that shines
Upon the window
I see it all so clear
The tenderness, the silent tears
Out here in the pouring rain
Through cold dark waiting days
I see you standing there
I see the big wheels turning
Never ending, on and on they go
Beatles liove songs
Can someone explain what this beautitul song is about?
@@williamanthony2608 I think that the big wheels represent the gears of a clock and how time keeps ticking
Bellísima letra, genial
Their second best song!
While writing my last love novel, I had the music of ELO in my ears - big thanks to Jeff Lynn's inspirational music.
Where do we find these ratings?
The best song of all time for me , a masterpiece!
It's perfection.
Love this .. the whole of side 3 in fact… however the moment where the strings descend to just cellos in a few moments is utterly stunning.
Big Wheels
I've been thinking it over
So many times they say
You got it made
They never understand
The answer lies within your soul
'Cause no one know which side
The coin will fall.
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning, turning...
Save it for a rainy day
For when the cold wind blows
Just to see how they run
I thought they'd know
I tried my best, all I could do
But somehow it was not enough for you.
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning, turning,
Turning, turning...
I remember the dead of night
A lonely light that shines upon the window
I see it all so clear
The tenderness, the silent tears
Out here in the pouring rain
Through cold dark waiting days
I see you standing there
I see the big wheels turning
Never ending, on and on they go.
I think I'm going home
I think I'm gonna have to start again
It's rather sad
Because I've looked around, can't seem to find
Whatever's always rolling through my mind
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning
Baby I know
Big wheels turning, turning
Turning, turning...
I remember the dead of night
A lonely light that shines upon the window
I see it all so clear
The tenderness, the silent tears
Out here in the pouring rain
Through cold dark waiting days
I see you standing there
I see the big wheels turning
Never ending, on and on they go.
Electric Light Orchestra
Thanks for the lyrics.
Beautiful
My first introduction to ELO was "Sweet Talking Woman," in the mid-70s, and I have been a fan ever since.
Melodic and so complex, I don't think many have the talent to produce music of this quality anymore.
beautiful !!!!!!!
Great drumming by Bev Bevan, and the magical fingers of Richard Tandy!!! MAGICAL!!!!
along with the superb writing and singing from Sir Jeff....played this album till the grooves wore out and keep going back, now to the CD or streaming off the 'Net
Lets all be thankful we were around when music like this was released! Got the double album on release and still love the album.
I see it all so clear
"(Big wheels keep turning
They turn forever and ever)
I've been thinkin' it over
So many times they say you've got it made
They never understand the answer lies within your soul
'Cause no one knows which side the coin will fall
Big wheels turnin'
Baby, I know (Or not at all)
Big wheels turnin'
Baby, I know (Or not at all)
Big wheels turnin', turnin'
Save it for a rainy day
For when the cold wind blows, to see how they run
I thought they'd know
I tried my best, all I could do
But somehow, it was not enough for you
Big wheels turnin'
Baby, I know (Or not at all)
Big wheels turnin' (No, no, no)
Baby, I know (No, no, no)
Big wheels turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin'
I remember the dead of night
A lonely light that shines upon the window
I see it all so clear, the tenderness, the silent tears
Out here in the pouring rain
Through cold, dark waiting days I see you standing there
I see the big wheels turnin', never ending, on and on they go
Oh, I think I'm goin' home
I think I'm gonna have to start again
It's rather sad, because I've looked around
Can't seem to find whatever's always rollin' through my mind
Big wheels turnin'
Baby, I know (Through my mind)
Big wheels turnin'
Baby, I know (Oh, it's goin' through my mind)
Big wheels turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin', turnin'
I remember the dead of night
A lonely light that shines upon the window
Oh, I see it all so clear, the tenderness, the silent tears
Out here in the pouring rain
Through cold, dark waiting days I see you standing there
Oh, I see the big wheels turnin', never ending, on and on they go."
I never saw him alive after that day. 7 years? Even great music will never fill that hole in my soul...it helps, a lot though.
i was twelve when i first heard this album, headphones and a world away, bliss..................must do that again one day.
Andrew Hall I was 13 as I 've bought this masterpieces. It was the first record I have bought.
"I remember the dead of night!!!" That gut-wrenching, lamenting cry gets me every time. I've been the guy "Out there in the pouring rain" for just a glimpse of her through "the lonely light that shines upon the window".
This song always makes my life beautiful
I still have my over 35-year-old vinyl pressing of this album. One of my most favorite of all time! Long live ELO!!
got two copies, 1 a rare blue vynl release, and i still got the two free cardboard elo space ships that you had to make.....both are still unmade.....
This was the first album I bought out of my own pocket money in 1978 at the age of 12. I still have it. :-)
Another masterpiece ❤❤❤
Very underrated and relatable
The Lyrics on the verses of "Big Wheels" sum up my life.
Friends, between 2:05 and 2:10 we hear Jeff hitting a very high note, and it's simply one of the most beautiful musical sounds in history. Could his voice be any lovelier? It showed so much feeling.
the foreshadowing for the instrumental in mr blue sky… also i’m crying
