I saw The Bikeriders this past week because it was the Mystery Movie at Regal. one of my favorite parts was Michael Shannon's character telling about how badly he wanted to go to war and wasn't allowed to, this outcasted feeling that gives so much depth to his character who we don't really get to see that much of. i wish there was even more exploration of that in the film, maybe because i'm personally very drawn to that. I liked the movie a lot though, not without its flaws but enjoyable to watch with a fantastic cast.
movie was outstanding. at least a half dozen scenes that were as special as any classic film from the 40's and 50's. jeff has a way of telling a story in a classic and timeless way. he does movies as his brother writes music, love this family.
Jeff Nichols, man. He doesn't make movies often, but when it does, they usually deliver. Looking forward to Bikeriders. It seems to have a positive audience reaction.
Nobody has asked the questions you did! Not fluff, you got into the stuff we really want to know: how does the club this movie is based on feel about it? How did you respect the history of what actually happened vs the story you wanted to tell? Thanks for digging in and letting Nichols tell his story.
Sean thinking Deadpool & Wolverine making $2 billion is crazy. I know he's a marvel stan but come on lol. Thanks for the pod, excited to check out Presumed Innocent.
Good episode! Enjoyed the box office/industry chat. I know original films are potentially more risky.. they also can have huge rewards too. I hope Pixar mostly focuses on orignal ideas. The occasional sequel is ok.. but if we are up to Toy Story 8.. you know something is broken!
Part of the equation is time and money. I'm a movie lover but I can only afford to go now about 2 or 3 times a year. I got kids who are little so I have to prioritize. I went to see Dune 2 but as much as I love Bad Boys and would like to see The Bikeriders I'll wait till they come out on streaming because of the cost. I think a lot of people are making similar calls.
This movie is also proving that Butler is a box office draw. It's an R-rated indie that isn't a popular IP and Tom has been invisible during this press tour. People talk about Chalamet as a "box office draw" but his recent indie movie only made 15M in total across its entire run. The Bikeriders has already made more than that on the domestic market and we're only two days in.
It’s not necessarily because of Austin butler. Tom hardy is in this as well, and the film’s subject matter is a draw. I don’t know what Chalamet movie you’re talking about thouhj
Just seen it. Welll... First of all it differs a lot from this MC original story. In reality Johnny was alive for a long time after, he divided the club and eventually left. He passed 2018, as far as I know. Benny really wasn't a main guy at all, it just so because the story was taken from his wife. Actually, there are almost no pictures of him in the book. He's still alive, but inactive in the MC. Katy, as far as I know, passed away not so long ago. Funny Sonny remarried about 10 times, and was active in his MC for a long time. Passed in 2010. So the movie is good as a separate story, and cannot be compared or related to the original story about the MC the Bikeriders are written about.
I’m really sorry, but I don’t think that Austin Butler is a terribly good actor lol. Like yeah he did an okay Elvis caricature but it was almost like a family guy cut away, and now he can’t get out of that accent lol. And now this new Bikeriders movie ….. honestly I don’t know what everyone’s taking about it’s almost unwatchable. Between Austin and whatever the heck accent Tom Hardy is trying to do, I feel like the world is pranking me, thinking this is a good movie. Honestly I thought it was preposterous.
I respect your opinion about not liking someone's acting... but the other stuff? what in the world are you even on? Butler doesn't have an 'elvis accent' - he hasn't had one for at least two years - he only had remains of it during the 2022 elvis press. But he hasn't had one for a long time, that IS his actual voice. Feel free to look up his 2017 show or interviews (shannara chronicles) you will realise he talks exactly the same way before Elvis. The only thing different? he has a lingering raspiness bc he damaged his vocal chords with how much he trained for that role. But his accent and deepness of voice is the same as before. Kindly do research before speaking!
I saw a trailer for this movie. Tom hardy doing brando. Butler song dean. Meh. Actually I'm not all that impressed by tom hardys acting let alone butlers.

This film was absolutely banger! Great interview guys

Excellent show fellas! Always a pleasure
Great episode and interview guys as always! Can't wait myself to see The Bikeriders and many more at KVIFF next week.
Lovely to see everyone in such high spirits in this episode ☺ Excellent episode as always, loved hearing Jeff Nichols talk about Bikeriders!
Half of the Dune cast in the pack- call it the Arrak Pack!! Great interview and happy as always to be here

Yeah, I pumped the brakes when I remembered the R rating. That'll hurt it
@@soconnell33 fairplay bud! Let's see how it does. All depends if it'll have legs. I can see it having a huge first weekend but might taper off.

Where is Jeff giving this interview from? Lol

That’s why the film opens with a line saying it’s INSPIRED by the photo book.
I want Pixar to focus on original ideas. Only do a sequel if it makes sense, like Toy Story 2 and 3. Absolutely nobody needed nor wanted Toy Story 4.
Well why is he still with Kayla Gerber

Tom Hardy ain't that great as an actor imo.

I thought he was terrible in Masters of the Air
Straight men really hate Austin Butler. And don't respect anyone else's opinions on the matter.
I wonder why. 😭😭
