We used to find so much iinteresting stuff in the bush, dig it up, clean it up. metal belts, bottles, tools, bits of gold. I never thought much of gold as it was common to me. The whole of Mt Chalmers bush was our back yard. We only went home to eat when it got dark.

Thanks for showing me my old home town. Going to school was fantastic then, jump over the fence and you were there. Used to get sent home sometimes for arriving too early or was still wearing PJ's. Just forgot to change I think. It was so sad to hear when the government shut the school.

My great grandfather Frank Murray moved 4 houses and a shop from Mt Chalmers when the town closed down. One of the houses in Braithwaite St Yeppoon was destroyed in the cyclone, the house next door survived. The other 2 houses are either side of Park St where one burnt down in the early 80s and the other one Frank lived in till his passing in the 90s. Frank also had the Mt Chalmers horse busses which ran from there to Slipner through to Yeppoon till the Hopkins busses took over. (The wife’s family)

My mum and dad built the railway house. I loved growing up there. It's was the best childhood. We would walk up the railway tracks and go for an adventure.
