Gommersall family homestead is opposite it and still standing. Doug Carswell did alot of work to restore this home. The site of the Thomasson family home is just around the corner on Greenlakes Road also. Great video
Hey! Thank you so much for sharing that information. Interesting isn't it? I like that country out there
That's cool. Reminds me of Gogango hall. Gogango is a railway town lost in time. It's pretty cool.
My grandfather was station master at gogango Dad my aunties All went to school there they live in the little cottage across the road from the school.
@CQExplorers Wow! I had a mate who grew up way out the back of Gogango. His family lived there for years with no power.
It's a nice place out there. Got to do a bit more of a video out there, especially on cemetery that used to be there
I wasn't born there, but so what
...and she's off!! Great little wetland area for sure!!
Lagoon looks different from up there
Always feel as though there is something to learn about the times when I visit a cemetery! That one sure looks interesting and historic for sure!
It's a great place to walk around and reflect on the past. It has a lot of interesting people history.
Gabbro fill your hole in. You missed the deadly hole just inside the f evince. A ND there is more workings down near Gavial creek accross thev road.
Smallest state forest in qld😂
Haha didn't think of it like that 😂
@@CQExplorers Hidden star was across the road, all filled in with rubbish unfortunately
Yep, We had permission a long time To detect been to hidden star Seen the rubbish in it Also been over the back where the aqueducts you can see on the hill.
@@CQExplorers really? Across the creek?
@inlikeflynn673 yes right at the back of the fence you can see in the next property on the hill
23°17'24.3"S 150°32'41.0"E Here you would find a old chapel at Seeonee. Nothing much there apart from an alter and a cross and a few seat though.
Thanks for that I know exactly where you're talking It's amazing!
Thank you. I didn’t know this was at Cawarral.
Where abouts is this rec ground
Old gogango CQ
Hello Mark I grew up in Rockhampton and I have watched some of your videos. I know a little bit more about the halfway house to Yeppoon and Mt Chalmers and I would like to met and swap a few yarns if possible. If your interested let me know how I can contact you. Cheers, Ken

Bit like the secret waterfall (that really isn't a secret)at Sam's Creek on the tele track, only in miniature
There was a trench the army had cut on the top of the hill at the south of Lammermoor, that had a good view over the southern beaches. Roundabout where Ocean Crescent is now as best as I can recall
Very interesting thank you for the information
The schol was on the swamp side not the new pub site, flash Harry's pud was on a wee know on the other side of the swamp.
Okay Thank you for clearing that up
Been trying to find this for so long 😢
It's just off Arnold's road a little track on your left hand side will lead you down to stringy bark creek
@@CQExplorers Legend thanks mate I'll have to go check it out
When I went up there , I couldn't believe people lived on the top. With near vertical front yards. Amazing view tho.
It's amazing. Place up there
Cool mate. Be good to know a bit more history on the new Zealand gully rush.
Same. I've been doing some research over the last year looking at doing exploring their Soon only problem is you have to walk it.
@@CQExplorers yer sweet, cheers mate. I tried to go up there once. But ended up at someone's house, so I thought must be all private property. But Iv heard about the gold rush days there. I,LL keep my eye on your clips. Cheers.
I know it's mount Archer state Forest
I think it is always great to document such great little and more obscure secret spots!! Wonderful!!
Thank you 😊 There's a few other waterfalls I'm trying to find there 😀
Almost matches Purlinbrook falls.
Haha This is probably how Purling Brook Falls started 😁🤣
Nice one
Good vid
Always love going up the mountain
I honestly liked it When the clouds were low felt different
That certainly was an amazing area for a fantastic brisk walk...and those views...wow!!
It was such a beautiful walk
What about all the gravesites they just cleared and reused at the cemetery
Just another one of Australia's Ghost Ports, up to Port Douglas and down to Kiama, just 2 more. The local library would help with the location of the book " Australia's Ghost Ports " Lived in Rocky for approx 6 months, rented the house in Millers on the hill up from the Van-Park-(ex Mt Morgan ,Millers) $18/week Joyce Miller( world famous concert piano player) and her husband Neville had the Caravan Park in Parkhurst. Grandma Miller $$$$$ lived " on the Hill" in Rocky, that's a Rocky saying. Thanks for the video.
Thanks Great information I'll have to look for that book Australia's Ghost ports sounds interesting.
Visit the Museum as well and see the copies of nuggets they found in the early days of the mine. Huge dollars required for restoration of the area, like most old mines.
Ol mount, grew up there walked up the back of the lookout every morning to go to school memories
Looks good.
Thanks, Laurel ☺️
What a great video Mark enjoyed it very much very brave of you to walk through that long grass and going across that bridge and thank you for doing so.. My Mums people were from Mt Morgan and she was born there in1923 and her mother was the first white woman born in Mt Morgan .... My brother and I spent many holidays in the Mount and we even went to school there for 2 years so we used to walk across the old bridge that was replaced with the new suspension bridge... It is a shame that more is not done to those places of interest those bridge structures could be cleaned up and the old rail line also for tourist walks I'm sure the Rockhampton council could dispatch a wipper snipper crew once a month to do the job,.. but if they could not restore a Heritage listed bridge than grass cutting is out of the question,.... anyway thanks again Mark.....
Thank you So much! Yes, I'm very brave. Walking across that bridge looks scary but it was okay. One step at a time 😁 Wow amazing Family history you have. Thanks for sharing your memories. Of Up there Got to get up there and do some more videoing still more history to show I know those suspension bridges are very interesting. And thanks for enjoying watching I'll make sure I get up there again. If there's any way you'd like me to show on my next video up there, let me know 🙂
@@CQExplorers No where special Mark the town is a very interesting place so looking forward to your next video,... 👍
Really interesting video mate👍. I’m there often and didn’t know half that stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed it and now have more stuff to look at when I’m riding 😃
Too easy Mick Lots of history around up there 😊
Those were some fabulous views!! The little four-legger is like, "Come, come, quick, quick, let's get a move on!" lol Very enjoyable part of a day!!
Haha, thanks! Nala can be little bit of a handful She loves walking a lot loves the outdoors 😄
Thanks for this. Been a while since I've been there. Are the old US gun emplacement ditches still there or have the lookouts been placed over the top of them?
Hey thanks First time Up that lookout there I have heard of the gun emplacements. I've been trying to do some more research on them I'm going to be doing history walk of keppel Sands, especially when the yanks were there for r&r And when they used to launch the PT boat also. The little bar 🍺 they had setup but yes any information on the gun emplacements were exactly? Hopefully I can get some help
I’m sorry, but there’s no way I can easily describe exactly where the emplacement ditches were aside from the fact they were ditches on the two headlands. No cement remaining. You could see down into the cutting from up there. The US made the cutting to bring their amphibious vehicles through. They also blew up the rocks that were in the mouth of the creek where my Uncle used to fish (locally known back then as Graham's Rocks), to provide easier access. If you can find a copy of the book "A history of Keppel Sands", which was locally produced, there is a photo in it that I took, of a man standing next to one of the ditches or in one (can't find the book at the moment). Other than that, you need to talk to the long term locals like the Limpus family. The cement slab at the base of the hill was where there were buildings for their amphibious vehicles.
That's great information, thank you. I put up a post on my Facebook page Central qld explorers See if I can get some more information about down there.
@@CQExplorers I expect most of the locals who were around during WWII are probably just about gone now. There is a local historical society, in fact, I think they are the ones who put out the book I mentioned.
Great video,,thanks for sharing 👍
Cool vid, I’m keen to do the next section from Yeppoon rd to Cawarral.
You too. I'd like to do that section, but how much has been taken over by the property owners I've noticed? 😕
Good video. The original crossing of Alligator Creek was a forde (causeway) right next to the water pipeline. There are newspaper articles (2H1800s) of travelers stripping and crossing the forde at flood times and being attacked by crocs. That would have been where the first inn was located. The first bridge (timber struss - Australia's largest timber truss span bridge) was opened in 1877. The concrete bridge 'that is not used anymore' (is used by locals) replaced the timber truss bridge in 1960. The Army had the privilege of blowing up the timber truss bridge (probably for demolition experience). The 1960s bridge still flooded too frequently so the current bridge site at a higher elevation next the railway bridge was built.
Nice walk that a little longer then i thought
Good one mark, is it a good idea to do that walk on a saturday morning with out getting run over by bikers?
Yeah it can be done whenever The track is a shared track up to the mountain bike area Saturday morning probably would be a popular time for them
Another great video, keep up the good work 👍
Thanks. It was a good video to make. Finally, I got around to it
Have you thought of wandering around the mountains behind the old Cammoo Caves at all? There is the old Flogged Horse cave, as well as a huge, cathedral-like cave, with the entrance being a small opening at the top of the ridge. Further down the road towards Olsen's, on the top of the hill (the small range crossing), there are remnants of an old cottage, as well as a few old, spoked, model T type wheels. On the same ridge, there is a Karst cave system where a man and his wife lived. Some of the older locals can tell you their story. I think he was nicknamed, 'the crazy clock man', because after he passed away, a collection of old clocks were found in one part of the cave.
Oh wow! Nice! No, I've never ventured out that way around that cave system scared I might get lost. I'll have to take someone with me
@@CQExplorers i can show you a few. Would be good
@TradeTravelTroopy anytime I'm always up for an adventure
8:25 'More fullerer' is the correct term I believe...😂
Didn't know if it was Fuller full or just an f load of water 😉
I never knew the weir existed. Very cool.
So much up there people don't know about. It's like a mystery area
There's a house in George street, between William and Derby streets that has a retaining wall constructed from river stones sourced from Moore's creek at the bottom end of First Turkey. Five trailer loads if memory serves correctly...that was in the early 90s.
Ah nice! I'll have to drive past and see if I can see it
@@CQExplorers 195, between the front house and the back yard/shed. Behind the tractor mechanics.
Thanks Brad. I'll have a look next time I go past
Great vid mate, i .ike the vid with no music. Where abouts by Tannum is this?
Hey thanks. I think they call it Tannum rusts at Gladstone Tannum Sands

My mum and dad built the railway house. I loved growing up there. It's was the best childhood. We would walk up the railway tracks and go for an adventure.
Oh nice! Thanks for sharing your memories Would have been a great area to grow up in
Yep thats the 1 we talk about today id be up for the challange but let me get some new hikeing boots and pole lol and a day to recover lol

Iron sulphide( iron pyrite) was, and still is, used to make sulphuric acid. Acidification of run off water from iron sulphide is currently the mines main pollution.
Oh amazing thank you for the information
Is a little rough if i had skid plates id give ago lol
"At Cawarral Creek, and also in the Keppel Bay islands, the mineral is found in irregular masses in small veins and encrusted in small cavities in the slates and quartzites. The colour was green, bluish-green and rarely turquoise blue." They were there prospecting for a hopeful phosphate deposit to mine for fertiliser.
