By the time of Ahsoka’s trial, the Jedi Order had strayed away from the light side. But this whole video is a case study in why the Jedi Order shouldn’t’ve officially joined the republic. They should’ve stayed on their own and kept their mission as “helping people who need help” as opposed to “be the long arm of Republic law”.
But do you understand why the Jedi became the Republic's peace keepers at the becking call of the Senate? The Ruusan Reformation. after centuries of what to the none force users looked like a Civil War, the Jedi had seemingly won against the Sith and destroyed them. The people of the Republic were scared of even the Jedi, because at this time they held power. They held military ranks, owned fleets and armies. They held political power in the Senate, and then they could use the Force on top of all of this. The Jedi of this time realized that in order to build trust with the Republic, and the people of the Republic. The Jedi Order needed to rebrand itself. No longer were they a military order. So they disbanded their fleets and armies. No longer were they warriors, and soldiers, so they did away with the armor that they had worn off and on for centuries. The Jedi needed to return to what they were originally created for, while aiding the Republic. With seemingly no enemies to fight against the Republic didn't need such a huge force of arms, so they all but disbanded all of their forces, and asked the Jedi to become their peacekeepers. You could make a case, that the Jedi shouldn't of Joined the Republic, but then again. What if they had not? Returned to say Tython, and lived there out and away from the Republic, helping those they chose to, and not adding when the Republic asked, because of whatever reason. How long before all that anger, hate, and mistrust from the previous centuries of war that the Jedi had brought upon the Republic sparked a movement that maybe finally wins majority power in the Senate, or the Chancellorship. Then that is turned against the Jedi? Peace talks fail because the Republic leaders either sabotage the meetings or just simply don't want to hear it. Then the Jedi have to defend themselves, or submit to internment. I imagine there would be some that do submit hoping that logic and cooler heads will prevail. meanwhile there will be some that don't and end up splitting off from those that do. then something happens, and either the separatist Jedi kill someone, or they are framed. Meaning they have to defend themselves, and someone else dies. this only escalates the situation with the Republic, but in doing so the Chancellor or Senate has created another Civil War either knowingly or unwittingly. And all of this What if doesn't even include what Bane could of been doing as well.
The Jedi were the most self-defeating group. They purposely built their temple over a dark side nexus then proceeded to live in it. To raise babies in it. And every time someone went nuts and killed all the children they were surprised
@@talisredstar1543 The dark side nexus was on Coruscant, and Anakin/Vader went "nuts" when he killed the younglings when Palpatine told him to leave none alive "Revenge of the Sith" movie.
Anakin's destiny as chosen one was to bring balance to the force. After seeing the evils of the Sith and how far the Jedi have fallen from their ideals, destroying both was definitely staying true to that prophecy.
Same. Got back into the high republic after taking an extended break from reading, got my first Star Wars comics, started a rewatch of the movies and some of the shows, finally got around to watching Resistance. Really getting back into this universe, I’m gonna be sad when I don’t have anything else to read or watch.
Ahsoka’s trial was a sham, shame on the Jedi Council 😡. I don’t blame Anakin for distrusting the Council. The Jedi had really lost their way, they had become too dogmatic, arrogant, too detached, and too subservient to a corrupt Republic. The Jedi weren’t infallible, they were never perfect. Whereas in Luke’s new Jedi Order (Legends) the Jedi spend most of their time among the masses and build compassion and trust.
It's interesting that when the Jedi, specifically the Prequel era, are seemingly at their strictest, yet they are at their most vulnerable. We see from High Republic and Old Republic the ancient Jedi were much more lenient
I refuse to believe that the Jedi were vulnerable. I prefer to think that the Sith were just that powerful in the Prequel times. That Palpatine, and Darth Plagueis had clouded the Jedi's Vision so much that they could not see the Sith. I realize it comes around almost to the exact same spot, but it feels better to look upon it as this. Before the Rule of two, the Jedi and the Sith were pulling anyone into their armies even if they barely had any force attunement to begin with. Better with you, than with the other side mentality. Problem is this diluted the Force on both sides, but in particularly the Dark Side. The Sith were weakening themselves with "The Strongest rules." while fighting against the Jedi and the Army of the Light. So when Bane Tricked them all and had Kaan use the Thought bomb. That was the greatest military maneuver, and show of cunning that the galaxy had even seen, and would never know about. The Rule of Two made the Sith not only smarter, but more powerful when the majority of the Dark Side's power was now consolidated into 2 people. Meanwhile, the Jedi as much as I hate to admit it, did grow stagnate. after 1000 years of peace. Jedi no longer having to fight in battle after battle. They were peace officers, not soldiers. Philosophers and Mediators, not Generals, and Politicians. However, a 1000 years without any significant war if you can wrap your mind around that would make you think that the Sith are dead, and could not return without you knowing.
@@talisredstar1543 I think it's more of the situation that was created here. The jedi order is prepared to take down the sith which has always been an empire with multiple sith working... next to each other to kill the jedi. They expect a great battle some great war not a political takeover... which is what palpatine did. He didn't use his unlimited power to destroy the jedi he used rules and laws to his advantage. He just needed a war to justify taking more and more power till he basically ruled the galaxy. Then order the jedi to be executed for attempting to murder him, the innocent leader of the republic who's only known crime was believing in the religion that was counter to the jedi's religion, reorganize the republic, end the war and congrats you now rule the galaxy without having to swing a light-saber too much. I mean he used those blades what? Twice? Three times maybe?
@@talisredstar1543 Darth bane was born as a miners son, living with the skewed worldview that there is a limit in anything, believing that there is just a finite amount of the force in the galaxy, subsequently creating the rule of two so it would be enough of the dark side to "share" with.
It’s kinda sad going from the jedi of the high republic to jedi like Mace, Luminara or, heaven forbid, Ki-Adi Mundi. There’s a difference between not giving into your feelings and just being cold, distant, and out of touch with the galaxy and it seems like many of the jedi of the prequel era never figured that out.
The Jedi Order's role in the Republic mirrors how governments will sometimes rely on paramilitary forces to solve their problems. The order itself was small in respect to the galaxy as a whole but they had a huge influence on how the Republic was run. They were an amalgam of the Knights Templar and the Samurai.
More accurately, what happens if the government is too weak to govern and doesn't have a proper military of its own. The Republic/Empire quickly disposed the Jedi once they had a professional military and centralized enough power The fact that the Republic was so weak and had to rely on a bunch of monks was a problem in the first place
Jedi Order is supposed to help those, who can use the force, control their power. Untrained force users are volatile and they can destroy if they have negative feelings as shown when vader mourned for Padme.
Not really. Adult Force-users without training are barely a threat for local police. Unless they get traumatized really bad or are forced to rely on emotions that much, they'll barely make a dent.
@HolyknightVader999 plagueis novel shows untrained force users using the force to manipulate gambling outcomes, having visions and starting a cult, and killing indiscriminately, as well as being found and trained by the Sith. The Jedi Def wouldve had a lot to worry abt if untrained force users were just out and about in large numbers
Can we get GT channel to 1 million subs? Allen always makes such thoughtful videos and analyses that raises the conversation about SW to a more intellectual level. He even brings attention to topics or issues that other you tubers don’t even think about because he goes deep or goes really broad (big picture) in his vids. Keep up the great work, Allen!
The whole team deserves so much more than 1 million subs. Across GT and GF Allen, British Ben and American Ben have put so much time into making so many incredible videos! Hope you all are having a wonderful, dolphin free New Year!
yeah, probably by liking, subscribing, hitting the bell, and sharing GT's awesome content with your SW-nerd-friends. don't forget that comments also help!
It would have been interesting to see what led to the creation of the Jedi Order. I have read the old expanded universe take, but after this video (and discovering wh40k) I would expect that Force-Sensitive Purges from non-Force-Sensitive were a recurring event in the Star Wars Galaxy.
Not really. With many Force-users being barely aware of their talents, at most you'd see some Force-users being local kings or weapons of local authorities. Or some gangster uses a Force-sensitive pawn in some hustle.
I like the X-Men mutant comparison but I would say it’s more like being a mage in Dragon Age. You either rule, are enslaved, hide, or are ignored. But never accepted. I got to hand it to the Jedi for finding that unknown “other” solution. Ergo make yourselves needed, then wanted, then irreplaceable. It’s kinda like being “The Champion of Kirkwall” in Dragon Age 2.
Or the Warden Commander or the Inquisitor XP But do agree with this. You have great innate power, you go to a religiously based organisation when young to work out how to control it, but people still look at you weirdly. And if you fuck up enough you become tranquil or get sent to the jedi agriculture corps. The similarities do fall apart when you try to slot in the templars or sith to the other, but its good enough.
I think it's important to remember that, even in a technologically advanced democracy... like the Galactic Republic, I mean... bigotry can result in systemic discrimination against certain groups. This video is the kind of stark reminder that we all need.
Question: Why the Jedi decided to utimately settle to just Coruscant instead of having a number of enclaves scattering across the known galaxy like during the time of the Old Republic and have them work alongside with the local security forces and the local governments of each sector or even system?
Disney should explore the smaller sects of Jedi that weren't part of the Order like Green Jedi of Corellia. Corellia had it's own Jedi that was only concerned with Corellia and broke off from the Coruscant Order. The Official Jedi Order stayed away from Corellia unless they were called in by the Green Jedi.
What did the Jedi do about force sensitive beings that were too old to train? Just turn them away and forget them or did they keep tabs on them as potential enemies that will inevitable use the force without guidance?
Sometimes, if they had criminal history, the Jedi would keep tabs on them. I'm assuming if they were never perceived as a threat, the Jedi wouldn't worry, but they also detected almost every force-sensitive born in the Republic, and probably never came across many from outside of the Republic
I always felt the Jedi were a police force. Force sensitive individuals can pose a danger to others and themselves, so they are indoctrinated into the Jedi to learn to control thier abilities. Then they're put to use serving the public.
This also reminds me of the X-Men and the Telepaths from Babylon-5. In both of these programs, not only it involves a registry for these gifted people but laws are in place to force them to take medication which suppresses their gift.
Your points are very interesting and thought provoking. Your point about the Jedi Temple not having any Dark Side materials, nor discussing the Dark Side is very curious indeed. I'm taking your word for it as I respect your in depth scholarship on the topic. This lack of material and discussion is, as the Jedi Council would put it, troubling. Troubling, not because the Jedi order doesn't have the training to recognize a Sith or other Dark Side user, but because of the root cause of the lack of material: Fear. The Jedi so fear the Dark Side, that they sow the seeds of their own destruction by avoiding the topic so thoroughly. For an order that is so mindful and consciously aware of their emotions (thus able to control their reactions to them, not eradicating them as is so commonly proposed), it's kind of amazing that they have so buried themselves under thousands of years of tradition that Master Yoda probably isn't aware of the underlying fear of that omission. And fear, perhaps chief among the Dark emotions is, as Palpatine is well aware, inSidious.
its actually a notion in philosophy. the notion that by going to the alternate extreme of something you fear/hate you simply reduce your ability to actually deal with the problem. for instance people who grew up in very strict households often have issues with self control with alcohol/sex in their adult lives because they never learned how to moderate such behaviors and were only taught to avoid it, which obviously doesn't work. (how many 'just say no' campaigns have accomplished absolutely nothing) the jedi certainly fit this category. fearing the with so much they don't even want to mention it or admit it exists, which leaves them unable to actually keep their stability in the force. leading to baris and dooku's fall from grace as since they can't deal with frustrations, rebellion, or anger in a healthy way, they look to unhealthy avenues.
@@sovietunion7643 that's a bit deterministic and old psychology and sociology approaches. Reality is much more complex, is not simple social conditioning or societies and status quo would never change at any level. True jedi philosophy does not search power for power and they were no rulers of the galaxy. Like in star wars, that lure is of the 1% that really "control" the world; and corporations were run by regular individuals of different species, those are the 1% of the star wars universe. For most time Sith and Jedi must be obviously seen as privileged, but not as the ones that have the galaxy on their palms. You forget the power of a unique outer rim clan, the Hutts, which de facto had much more power ruling than mostly jedi or sith - and the Hutts to, contrary to jedi, searched power and profit as the dominant 1% also did, just like here on earth but with no force users.
Starwars is about how dreams come true. There's little Chance you will succeed and even if you do it's not what you expected. But it's what I've always dreamed of doing. Fast forward 14 years and He tells his own apprentice who's leaving that he himself thought a lot about how he to wanted to leave the order
The problem with the mutant analogy is that it ignores that force users are also valuable assets that you can’t just replicate else where. Any sort of oppression would only make the first group to be willing to work with force users a massive advantage. That’s why the Sith just kept coming back their was just to much to be gained by working with them even if in a unfair relationship. Granted their oppression made them vulnerable as they didn’t work with to many, why they kept getting destroyed. Ultimately a Jedi order, a group that can work with to the benefit of the society, would be the most stable out come. The Jedi survived for a 1000 generations before they fell, and it took a lot of work and effort to do that.
in the Tales of the Jedi comic book series from Dark Horse comics in the 1990s, they were set thousands of years before the movies, and they showed us the Jedi homeworld, Ossus, and there were teachers and students and one of the students ? was a walking talking tree and when disaster struck in one of the issues, he turned himself into a real rooted tree , maybe with some of the jedi texts in him to protect them.
well, in the Old republic game (SWtOR) they briefly unite against the Eternal Empire in the KOTFE expansion (knights of the fallen empire) (the Alliance is the name of the player characters "faction" that combines Jedi & sith) - however, the game did not continue in this vein in further expansions and went back to Jedi vs. Sith.
The number of Jedi-Sith wars are few and far between. In the 25,000 years of Republic rule, there have been only seven wars between Jedi and Sith. The original schism which led to the Dark Jedi exiles landing in Sith space, the Great Hyperspace War, the Exar Kun War, the Jedi Civil War, the Great Galactic Wars, the New Sith Wars, and the Clone Wars. That's like what, seven wars as opposed to the many Alsakan Conflicts, wars with the Mandalorians, wars against alien cultures like the Hutts, and summer wars between Republic factions?
i think Earth had a force user a couple thousand years ago, he could levitate and heal people and see the future? but somebody nailed him to a piece of wood
The Jedi did themselves no favors by going out of the way to remain aloof, on top of the kidnapping of force-sensitive children.. not to mention the many (and public) tactical errors made by Jedi generals during the clone wars.
Eh. A lot of it was sith doing. Sidious and Plageus had ties to many banks, corporations, and finances and had been manipulating things. Subtly. The Jedi were blinded true, but the Republic and the Jedi made a deal. The Jedi would act as guardians and soldiers for the republic in exchange for these rules and benefits. It was mainly the Jedi who organized the Republic against the Sith invasions and threats. I think the Jedi were too cautious. They accepted their role as generals too easily. They should have been speaking out against the war and trying to establish more officer corps in the military and should have been trying to get away from the republic. Move resources to another world.
That is something that changed pretty quick once the New order rose. And besides, in propaganda material they primarily talked about the heroic Clone Trooper Legions, fighting the evil separatists.
As I have understood it, in the distant past, pre-light sabers, the Jedi (Je'dii?) were peace keepers/police of a sort. That their origins were more complex. That over 25,000+ years they lost their roots and their true function is no surprise at all. Being an order that rejects emotion and relationships wasn't original either but developed over time.
The Ruusan reformations were exactly that they became a entity under the Senates control and the office of the Chancellor. Tales of the Jedi with Dookus arc should us how badly it went once the entity that controlled the Jedi was corrupted and thus corrupted the Order by association
always seemed strange to me that anakin never tried to go to palpatine in private about ashoka's trial. palpatine pretty directly states his willingness to bend the rules to help out anakin several times.
This video raises another question for me. With how the Jedi were about making sure dark-side tendencies weren't practiced, how come Dathomir and the Night Sisters were allowed to continue their practices?
The short version is distance and murder. Dathomir was fairly out of the way to get too. And murder, well, you send bounty hunters against dozens-too-hundreds of people who can choke you with a thought, and shoot lighting. It will end poorly.
Nightsisters don't wage war on the Jedi or seek to conquer the galaxy like the Sith. They most kept to themselves and didn't cause trouble for Jedi, thus the Jedi left them alone
Strikingly similar to our reality. Protestant v Catholic, Shiite v Sunni, Christianity v Islam, Islam v Hindu... secularism v theism, and of course all the internal politics that go along with it.
Dooku : Live alongside corruption for too long and you no longer notice that stench . Dooku speaking of the Jedi permission of slavery by some planets .
They liked the Jedi enough to the point where they let them rebuild their strength. Especially on Dantooine, where if you save the locals from the mercs, they all want to become Jedi by the end.
Didn´t each citizen born in the republic get a blood test by birth? And directed to the jedi-order in case there ere any anomalys in the Midi-Chlorian count? So there is documentation, at least a birth certificate.
No, only in the Core Worlds. Hence - Sheev Palpatine - Midrim world of Naboo, Nobles able to circumvent him being tested. Outer Rim worlds controlled by the Hutts such as Tatooine - no testing. Hence Anakin only discovered by accident when a young boy, not as an infant.
Locking up all force users? Sounds great! When do we start? In all seriousness, were there any sentient beings that were anti-force? Like legends Ysalamari, generating an anti-force bubble around them but being sentient beings? Like humans? Has someone in Star Wars figured out that an army of force negatives would be ideal? Or gene tinkerers, like the Kaminoans, splicing ysalamari anti-force genes into humans to create the ultimate army of force user hunters?
Any Anti-Jedi or Force user politician could point out to the voters, with a great deal of justification, that every Jedi is a potential Sith. This has happened numerous times, and the Jedi/Sith conflict has wrecked total havoc on the Galaxy quite a few times over the millennia. So to paint all Force sensitives as potential threats wouldn’t be that much of a stretch to the general public.
Hmm... could this idea, this fear of the "normies" uniting against them and hunting them down, have been the genesis of Order 66? It seems like a very Sith idea: take your enemies greatest fear and spring it on them suddenly and out of nowhere, shattering their confidence and leaving them vulnerable and off-balance. Maybe Sidious knew that, deep down, this was the one fear that the Jedi could never truly shake -- and thus the one most likely to undermine them, should it come to pass.
in the Old republic, 3000 years before order 66, there was the Star Cabal. Their goal was to get rid of both the Jedi and the Sith, to have "normies" rule. (See SWTOR - agent story -3rd chapter -for details)
@Ryan Edgerton: But, it was never used to undermine their confidence. It was sprung on them and they had no idea it was coming. If they had known about it or had a fear of it, they would have developed a strategy to counteract it.
What their was a force sensitive of a species that the Jedi didn't take would form their own force Group. What would the Jedi do with independent force sensitive groups
If they were lightsiders, they would probably cooperate, as was the case with the Plo Koon's species which had its own Force-sensitive order/organization, or with the Ithorians who iirc didn't have a separate order but a Force-based religion, which the Jedi saw as perfectly compatible with their own beliefs
tales of the jedi is one of the more recent animated series we drew from, and clone wars 2003 is one of the older shows we used in this one. Both are pretty good
@@GenerationTech Ah, the 2003 Grievous was a terrifying force of cold badassery. I remember wondering why he's such a pushover in literally every other depiction until Clone Wars gave back some of his panache. But only some, in my opinion. The specific clip I'm curious about is at the 7:14 mark of the video -- it's art style (almost live-action looking, and all that weird coloration on the edges) is very different to other Star Wars media I've seen. Is it perhaps a fan-made short film? I'm also going to assume that the clip from 6:20 was not from Star Wars, as the vibe is off from all major SW factions I know of. Still cool, and I get why you used it -- the Empire was very thorough in capturing, deleting, and destroying any video evidence of its horrific prisons. Then again, so did the Republic, Rebellion, and New Republic, for all we know. Or maybe there is plenty of documentation, it just doesn't make money to make a holonet series depicting various atrocities as they are instead of propaganda. (Light sarcasm warning)
Honestly, all I can say is Ray or whoever does decide to rebuild the order needs to start from scratch. Heck, at this point, I kinda wish the movie did just Ray just tossing those jedi books to the flame. The dogmatic nature of the Jedi and its whole "not getting attached" was just as problem as an attempt at a solution.
But to be fair, violations in sports are heard in sports tribunals, violations in medical practice are heard in a tribunal of medical practitioners, because only people within the "profession" can understand the issue at hand, which the layman wouldn't.
I know this series is being done in good fun and all, but it reminds me of a debate I saw recently where one guy continually claimed to be neutral and unbiased, but it soon became apparent he was very skewed to one side and was more interested in proving the other side wrong than having an honest civil discussion.
I'm actually surprised no big story has ever really gone into some bigot's story about the fear they have of force users because they are inherently more powerful than them, which sets off a fight response where they try to go all fascist. Feels like something that could be explored for why it doesn't happen too often in the mythos.
So the shot of the Jedi Temple burning and smoking is awfully reminiscent of the photo taken during the 1943 Treblinka Extermination Camp Prisoner Uprising while the death camp burned. I love George Lucas and what he’s able to do visually
One thing wrong. The balance of the force is different than the balance of light and dark. Internal balance is what the light side is while the dark side in inherently imbalance. To balance one's self is to balance selflessness with selfishness as portrayed in the Mortis arc.
the jedi don't really show this balance though, at least not by the time we see them in the prequels. they don't allow any knowledge of the dark side or allow people to form attachments in fear of them getting too passionate. that is extremely focusing only on the light side, which causes an opposite reraction. if people have no healthy way to deal with frustrations, emotions, or otherwise, they will find unhealthy venues. we can see this is dooku's fall from grace. dooku was hardly ever a perfect jedi, but had he been able to get proper counciling and better ways to deal with his problems perhaps he could have stayed with the jedi. pushing someone too far into the "light" side of things just makes it so that when they actually face problems mentally or emotionally, they don't know how to deal with it and often react in a very bad way.
@@sovietunion7643 Internal balance is the light side. You have to understand Towism to get it as that is what the force is based on. It is not a binary moral and immoral system like in the west. You can have flaws and still be in the light side. You just won't be a shining example of one.
Only certain jedi could identify the darkside and ot fend it off. But they will learn it when they get older and mostly on your own , when it's time. Like the jedi council members.
You mention the light and the dark. That is assuming if it is there. There is only the force. Many consider the dark side not another side, but an entire perversion of the force itself. Also, wasn't there around 10,000 jedi knights around the time of the end of the republic. When the Jedi were probably the biggest due to lack of conflict brining their numbers down. There were probably more force sensitives like the dathomiirans, and other people who escape the republics medical system and got too old. But, then with padawans there were only around maybe 15,000 members of the jedi order. Compared to a galaxy filled with hundreds of trillions of beings, that puts the jedi at an incredibly small minority. They have always worked with the republic and other governments. As their origins were never in the realm of governing or controlling. They were originally an order of mystics to control the strong force on strong force planets. It was only when the dark jedi, sith, and various other hostile governments arrive did the Jedi join with the republic.
What about the star wars galaxy use of dark jedi that uses the dark side as a tool in battle. An dark side sorcerer that only use the dark side to create dark side created creatures and technology power and weapons powered by the dark side.
It's funny because sith and jedi is what kind of Jordan Peterson is talking about, leaders or at least the ones at the top of dominance hierarchies, the jedi being the peacekeepers of the troop (literally like in chimps) stay to be leaders for they also take care of the troop but the big meanie chimps are the sith, as some say that those chimps get literally torn apart later on. And that slave tactics of the sith is very prevalent in the empire's use of the death star, much like what the slaver empire did in s4 of clone wars... like a hostage tactic, the more they resist the more they'll be the demise of the ones they care about the most. It's just sad what happened to all of them. Many literature often portrays those in religious organizations as mediators not just as to the divine and mortals but among mortals. The jedi was like the vatican that also operates like the CIA. Entering the Republic is just a hard choice, because then they could intervene in the disturbances they feel specially death? so not entering will also just make them an outsider whilst tormenting them.
There is no "almost" holy. As originally envisioned and written, the Jedi and Sith were members of opposing religions. "You are all that is left of that religion," said Tarkin to Vader. Han Solo also referred to it as a "hokey religion." There are numerous other references, and in the real world at that time, the modern secular/anti-religious viewpoint was not yet a thing. They weren't playing at religion for the sake of the masses, they were in fact members of the most powerful religious orders in Galactic history.
I think it was little off the mark when you're saying the Jedi can use the Force because of their DNA and that they are mutants. The Jedi aren't any different biologically than any other member of their particular species. They have high midichlorian counts, which basically just means they have more antennae to communicate with the Force. Everyone has them, they just have enough to let them use the Force. The other minor nitpick, which could be current Disney EU BS IDK, is that the Jedi didn't teach about the Dark Side or Sith. I don't know where that came from, but the Jedi temple had many Sith holocrons, texts, etc. locked up both for study by Jedi Masters and to keep it away from anyone who shouldn't be using them (including Jedi who aren't prepared).
What we need is something that the Jedi can't mind trick like a Droid. Then program them to adapt to new force abilities. They can be our Sentinels keeping normal citizens safe.
"some might even join the Republic to round up othet force users.." oh you mean literally what the Jedi Order was doing? You just defined two core jobs/functions of the Jedi Order. Assist the Republic and round up force sensitives. The scenarios being discussed aren't speculations. They already happened, and the Jedi Order was the result. Clearly in the earliest days of the Old Republic, they already saw that one, there's a group of special powered people and two, they needed to be brought under Republic control. A few thousand years later, you've got the jedi order in the PT.
The Jedi would be better if they were nationalized and all force sensitives were lightly restrained, given a separate Jedi’s light side education and taught restraint without the restrictions of Jedi social philosophy and other taboos (maybe like a Sunday school too but churches don’t exist in Star Wars let alone Catholic ones) and if they joined the military they had to be in segregated, specially trained, highly disciplined and kindred units
Wasn't there some war between some empire and original Jedi (what was name, before division on light and dark) that Jedi won. Also, wasn't original Sith race force sensitive as whole? Dark side sensitive. They enslave members of their own race too, because they were weak and shame for dark side. I think.
Yup new Luke had it right people are crap . Best to live on separate planets . With. Massive defense net work around it and the rest of sector . The last would be my little improvement.
you know... given the times we live in, I genuinely, unironically appreciate that your closing statement for each of these videos is "my allegiance is to democracy". Yes I know it's an Obi-Wan quotation, but... Have you ever argued with a republican american online and told them "America is a democracy"? I will bet you a million dollars their reply will be "No, America is a Constitutional Republic", perhaps also adding that democracy is mob rule. And this, combined with the MAGA crowd's insistence on their twisted version of freedom, displays how the right these days has grown almost reflexively anti-democratic
Hey Alan. how about looking at force users as less from this dogmatic religion that has been built and look at them from a purely medical/neural perspective. Like how Jedi are like monks who train to discipline their minds, while Sith are more quick, reckless and full of anger. Are there parts of the brain being affected by their force use? Telepathy, telakenisis, even Force Lightning are produced from certain areas of the brain? And so on.
"the long arm of republic law"
Jedi master Dredd yelling at some seperatists: "I AM, *THE LAWR!!*

@@chriswilder9719 I"m drawing a blank, please remind me where the nexus was, and who went nuts.

During the Exar Kun War, Jedi openly dated and had kids.
The Jedi Order reminds me of Crusader Templars, they initially stood for making the world a better place but war made them regress their ways.
Seems pretty self-explanatory.

It would have been interesting to see what led to the creation of the Jedi Order. I have read the old expanded universe take, but after this video (and discovering wh40k) I would expect that Force-Sensitive Purges from non-Force-Sensitive were a recurring event in the Star Wars Galaxy.
The Sith always purged them first....
Or like L. E. Modesitt's Imager series.
Or the Warden Commander or the Inquisitor XP
But do agree with this.
You have great innate power, you go to a religiously based organisation when young to work out how to control it, but people still look at you weirdly.

Question: Why the Jedi decided to utimately settle to just Coruscant instead of having a number of enclaves scattering across the known galaxy like during the time of the Old Republic and have them work alongside with the local security forces and the local governments of each sector or even system?
They used to have that before the Ruusan Reformation. Worlds like Corellia, Dantooine, Taris, and Tython even had Jedi Councils.
Many times they were put in agricultural corps.
Case in point: Sheev Palpatine. Force sensitive but not given to the order 🙂
This also reminds me of the X-Men and the Telepaths from Babylon-5. In both of these programs, not only it involves a registry for these gifted people but laws are in place to force them to take medication which suppresses their gift.
"Psy-Corps. Otherwise known as Fascists-R-Us." Some Security Chief who had "Never Trust a Telepath" tattooed on his eyelids... probably.
(how many 'just say no' campaigns have accomplished absolutely nothing)
the jedi certainly fit this category. fearing the with so much they don't even want to mention it or admit it exists, which leaves them unable to actually keep their stability in the force. leading to baris and dooku's fall from grace as since they can't deal with frustrations, rebellion, or anger in a healthy way, they look to unhealthy avenues.

Interesting some of the later legends books kinda went into that post-Jacen going rogue
Interesting video, this was a sign the Jedi collapsed due to their own ego.

I'd love a movie series or tv show on the jedi and sith fighting together in a war against a hostile galactic government
well, in the Old republic game (SWtOR) they briefly unite against the Eternal Empire in the KOTFE expansion (knights of the fallen empire) (the Alliance is the name of the player characters "faction" that combines Jedi & sith) - however, the game did not continue in this vein in further expansions and went back to Jedi vs.

Because they don't care. The Nightsisters were beneath their notice.
Nightsisters don't wage war on the Jedi or seek to conquer the galaxy like the Sith. They most kept to themselves and didn't cause trouble for Jedi, thus the Jedi left them alone

Maybe Sidious knew that, deep down, this was the one fear that the Jedi could never truly shake -- and thus the one most likely to undermine them, should it come to pass.
one that luke hard counters with the new order etc.
in the Old republic, 3000 years before order 66, there was the Star Cabal.

The Jedi weren't 'born into the order', they were abducted into it.
Definitely are some X-Men parallels. Either you join the power structure, become the power structure, hide from humanity, or are hunted by humanity.

I know this series is being done in good fun and all, but it reminds me of a debate I saw recently where one guy continually claimed to be neutral and unbiased, but it soon became apparent he was very skewed to one side and was more interested in proving the other side wrong than having an honest civil discussion.
No one is really unbiased we all have our own bias.
that could be literally any exchange on the internet. politics, game/book lore, philosophic beliefs, you name it, someone has done that.
I'm actually surprised no big story has ever really gone into some bigot's story about the fear they have of force users because they are inherently more powerful than them, which sets off a fight response where they try to go all fascist. Feels like something that could be explored for why it doesn't happen too often in the mythos.

The Perfect Plan: Order 66: The Republic and the defeated Jedi... The Empire and the Sith reigning throughout the galaxy.
Imagine trying a Force user in regular court. 😂😂😂
👍😂😂 I like that made me laugh
Only certain jedi could identify the darkside and ot fend it off. But they will learn it when they get older and mostly on your own , when it's time. Like the jedi council members.
How did the Jedi sustain themselves economically?
The Mortis arc says otherwise.
Hi
Spirituality matters.
I want to see a show on a Jedi killing task force that are not force senses.
Purge Troopers
They’re responsible for facilitating the Empire’s Rise. Definitely liable for genocide. They also hunted anyone who thought differently.
The only ones who could fight the Jedi and win are the Mandalorians.
F&$@ “CHANCELLOR” palpatine…. Imagine how different the saga would have been if windu survived..
👍👏
What we need is something that the Jedi can't mind trick like a Droid. Then program them to adapt to new force abilities. They can be our Sentinels keeping normal citizens safe.
They're called Toydarians. Give them some power armor.
A few thousand years later, you've got the jedi order in the PT.
wait, I don't get it, could someone spell out the real purporse of the jedi order?
I think.
The purpose of the Jedi order was the same for any other bureaucracy: the preservation of its own existence and privilege
Yup new Luke had it right people are crap . Best to live on separate planets . With. Massive defense net work around it and the rest of sector . The last would be my little improvement.
You sound like Bill Maher good brother
you know... given the times we live in, I genuinely, unironically appreciate that your closing statement for each of these videos is "my allegiance is to democracy".
Hey whose side you on man!? 😂
Hey Alan. how about looking at force users as less from this dogmatic religion that has been built and look at them from a purely medical/neural perspective. Like how Jedi are like monks who train to discipline their minds, while Sith are more quick, reckless and full of anger. Are there parts of the brain being affected by their force use? Telepathy, telakenisis, even Force Lightning are produced from certain areas of the brain? And so on.
