hi, which keyboard out the two that you have mentioned has better sound quality in terms of individual sounds like Pianos and EPs. And to what extent is one keyboard better than the other?
Although I love to be a one man band I ultimately opted for Kronos 2015 61 key, I just become euphoric if I hear or can design those multilayered lush and atmospheric pads, can't imagine my day without hearing them :) when I complement that with Spectrasonics omnisphere, that's when I'll stop looking around :D
thanks for this. a very no-nonsense recap of many features and pros/cons of each kind of keyboard and not a lot of trying to pimp korg per se, which I admit I expected more of. bravo and thanks again. as a composer still wrestling with what to get, it is at least a start as I knew little about arrangers.......and stores frustratingly almost never have them in the store.
Thank you so much Rick, Your presentation on Choosing the right keyboard nailed it for me, an Arranger is what I need and I'll now be able to find the right Korg Arranger in a music store down town.
I'm just realizing I've never used my Kronos at its full potential. I'm gonna have to find my manual again. I think I might try an arranger too. I'm still using my old Triton extreme this is a strong beast...still in love with it like the first time I bought it. That video was usual.
Thank you! I needed a comparison. (: im currently a local singer in my community wanting to up my game wiyth a keyboard! i just needed to know the difference. THank you! thank you! thank you!'
Great video. Though even us "Workstation guys" would like some of those "Arranger" features. Notably (Dedicated hard of soft buttons) for transpose & octave (For when the band you sit in with does the song in a different key), more ways to incorporate articulations so those huge sample libraries sound less static. Finally, if not harmonizers, vocoders that are at least 16 band so they're useful beyond a novelty. ;)
Excellent comparison of both technologies and styles. I had acquired the info of most of what you had explained through time but you put it all into a neat and complete perspective that was instinctively easy to understand and I still learnt something new also. Thank you.
I prefer an analogue synth and my daw to make music.because you can find more better accoustic sounds and samples in vsts! Workstations and arrangers are just better for live perf !
Go for something with Drawbars Then you get the organ sounds for worship Like this th-cam.com/video/_h754lHkxhI/w-d-xo.html organ starts 1/2 minute into video
Thank you so much. This is is a great video. It is very informative and to the point. It would be a great help if you provide each application you mentioned with a practical example.
I can't even choose man! I have simple needs: -Absolutely needs a drum kit/beat machine. I don't need to make my own(no midi related stuff). Just large group of genres beats/drum sounds and styles to play along with. I want to manipulate the tempo and complexity of these drums/ beats with the simple touch of a button. - I need to layer my synths. If I want to combine a Grand Piano and Slow Strings, I want to easily do that. - I need to transpose the keys at the press of a button. Ex:Key A transpose to Key A Flat (Ab). - Built in Speakers!!! I have professional headphones, but I enjoy speakers more. - Must have a large screen to navigate all the different folders and settings. Doesn't have to be touch screen. - Must have a sustain pedal jack support of course. What do you guys think? Workstation or Arranger?
A arranger is good for you. Korg has really good styles i.e rthyms and very good voices i.e tones. It's very realistic. And it even has a mic and guitar input. So if you connect a mic and sing u can add soo many effects for the mic such as a robotic sound i.e a synth vocoder. And if you connect a guitar you can many amps. Like distortion, overdrive, etc. And the giant touch screen is soo good. I suggest that you can get Korg pa 700 which is aprx 1300 dollars. Or Korg pa 600 which aprx 1000 dollars. But if you purchase in a much higher budget then I can suggest Korg pa 1000 or pa 3x(If it's available) or pa 4x. These are really expensive but worth the price. Hope you'll choose your keyboard now😀. Farewell amigo.
Workstations however is more for a studio person and he who knows the idea of what to do with it. I've seen people get expensive Korg Kronos X and don't know what to do with it and how to use it. But if are aware how to use it then its good for you. Remember, arrangers for one man band and live performance and workstations for studio purposes and even performing with a band. Arrangers and workstations are good for bands and live performance and band performances.
I already have a Pa3x and I LOVE IT. However one feature that I wish the Pa3x had that the KRONOS does that makes me want to get one, is set list mode. Yes I know that the new Pa4x does, but it's not the same. That only works for Songbook entries and not the entire keyboard (for lack of a better word) like the KRONOS
Arrangers are often used by solo entertainers, like when the couple getting married can't afford a complete band. These are also the instrument where you can find Arabic instruments, which are seldom implemented in a convincing way in workstations.
What about a keyboard that is both an arranger and a workstation like the Genos? Wouldn’t that be a good choice as well? I only ask as the sounds are still equally amazing and I would like to use that to make beats via Fruityloops
I want a keyboard that can arrange, be a workstation, make a mug of tea, take the dog for a walk and change my engine oil too - am I being reasonable ?
P G i have the old yamaha psr 9000 It is fun to play on and the rhythms run well, it can play wav or you can record your own voice and play with, you can also make your own sound from a small piece of wav file.
Good idea for a video. I want a synth, that I can load certain samples onto certain keys for performance, and transposition is something I'd love. I don't need realistic grand pianos, for me it's about sound design in an old school analogue style environment. But I only have so many hands, or might want to trigger backing box, so assigning voices to parts of the keyboard or individual keys would be ideal.
I want all 6...Am I being Greedy? I have dreams about the Chronos X. I am saving some money & I think I have exactly $653.74 last time I checked...Wish me luck!
Excellent info as always Ritch... I have a PA800, a KingKorg, and last but not least, a Kronos 2 88 keys... I use a little bit of everything, sometimes in conjunction... 😊
Not going to lie, being a recording studio business owner I would say that both of these would have to be purchased for the studios as to maximise productivity. The arranger because of its' capability to put music arrangements quickly with styles and backing parts makes it ideal to produce quickly without having to look to the computer or having to think about running out of processing power. The workstation when you want to hard plugin into computer programs with supportive digital signal processing to lighten the load of the computer and for the massive collection of sounds, And on a personal note I feel like many of the sounds on workstations are superior to software plugins in general with a few exceptions. So if you are serious about music then get both, I will also add that if your interested in 88 key with hammer action then go for the workstation as there are more options, arrangers tend to be 76 key on the high end. if you have money though get a smaller arranger and connect it to the workstation for full key scale playing.
Yh. I was thinking the Genos would be perfect as I love the sounds on the keyboard and would like to use a music software to record them. The only reason I wouldn’t buy a Genos is if a workstation has a keyboard which has sounds better than it.
Arranger and Workstation have existed in the SAME instrument since at LEAST 2000. The sophistication of today, might not have been fully there, but you COULD get what you wanted in ONE rig. And, in the now, CASIO brilliantly demonstrates that you don't have to break the bank on a quality keyboard that does BOTH! Keep your eye out for the CT-X5000, coming out near the end of May. THIS unit is goin to be CASIOS best 'board to date! And it will only cost $450!
Trying to decide which to get. I'm a singer/songwriter (which the arranger seems geared towards) who wants to experiment with sounds. Seems like the arranger is especially useful for creating that "one-man band," but doesn't the workstation have a lot of those functions also?
Go with an arranger because the functions that you seek are guaranteed for a "one man band" and also, they are a bit simpler to learn how to operate. Here's a little snippet I did on an arranger: soundcloud.com/skyy38/uh-oh-its-monday-excerpt
Hi Rich, I need your advice that I can get through ansewers to the following questions: 1. Is the preset piano sound on Korg Kross 2 improved compared to Korg Kross 1? ( Also what are some other improvements in Korg Kross 2); 2.. If tried to fi d the equivalent to Korg Kross 2 among other products (sych as Roland, Yamaha and Casio) what would they be? Is Roland FA for example the equivalent to Korg Kross 2 or is it Roland Juno? Thanx
Bato Daesitiates At the Kross 2 price point, the Juno DS61 is about as close. Feature wise I couldn't say. The reason I opted for Kross 2 were the potential of the Combi mode for live performance, however, while the Kross 2 can play a complete wav file backing track, to get it to do so isn't a simple process, and the manual isn't very helpful. One thing they changed design wise was the integrated carry handle and two tone case, pity as they were good design and practical ideas.
Now Rich, could you do ANOTHER video on the many different ways that CLASSIC MIDI RECORDING can be done on the PA Series. I've discovered ONE, so far, and that is the ability to record rubato sections on the PA600. However, there is NOTHING in the "Owners Manual" about the ability to record tracks with JUST drums or a "click", WITHOUT the "Auto Accompaniment" stuff or how to use the tap tempo function to set your OWN tempo, in the first place. With the exception of "Tap Tempo" all of the aforementioned could be done with ease on my old Casio WK-1350 Workstation Arranger. Stay tuned though, aside from MIDI issues, there is MORE to discuss......
I’d rather you (without changing your content) just presented one (say workstations) right through and then did the arrangers next. Still, thanks for the review.
Please help my ignorance. Surely, the new arrangers are also being marketed as a workstation as well i.e The Genos and the Pax4 etc. Although, both keyboards specialise as an arranger they also have qualities to be a decent workstation as well. Quick question: Does it really matter if I purchase a workstation or arranger if all I'm looking for is the best realistic sounds of different instruments? I ask as it seems like the arranger keyboards (Genos and Pax4) have the best sounds- much more than any workstation currently. Thanks and God bless!
Fair enough... but how do you activate the hyper-drive from these consoles? Access to warp field modulation, anyone? Where are the controls for the phaser banks and how do I route energy to the main deflectors?!
Hi guys... i am now confused between Korg pa300 and Yamaha s670.. i am a beginner to keyboards and my ultimate objective is to create mashups and compose own music and then transfer it to the DAW in my pc to record my vocals ( in my home studio) and use my DAW for mixing to get the final output. I am also keen to learn how to make karaoke tracks myself ( instead of buying them online) so that I can record cover songs as well. Which of the two keyboards would meet that requirement.
Question for anyone that know: The Arrangers shown had one that had the music score on the screen. Is it possible to record a piano piece and during playback you find a wrong note and can modify it right there and not have to mess with a computer and midi file software etc?? If so what model of keyboard would that be? thanks.
Pity you didn't release the Kross2 editor at the same time as the board, instead of making us wait at least 6 months. I'm really hoping it will make navigating the workstation a lot better experience so that I can set it up to do what your Kross2 demos claim it can.
Very informative, thank you very much. However, I would like to know which one of the two is better for live stage shows in a band context. I'm getting the impression that the workstation is better than the arranger, but both can pull it off?
Thank you for the info Rich, I still can can't decide to buy a workstation or Arranger because I don't have time to create my own styles and arrange songs. I don't want pay for the feautures that I won't use. I would like one that has lots of sounds and styles so I could play my songs to entertain my friends. that's all. Which Korg model will that be? I like Korg PA4, but it is too expensive it cost more than the car I drive. Looking forward for your advise. Thanks again
im going to buy korg krome yesterday, but then i start thinking, what if the next year come out somthing new, like a bigger tuch screen an a sythesizer work stasion with arranger applications? aniway i wait more ,for now im just practice on my midi keybord for pianno tecnkis!
Nice video. What you recommend if you want to be able to voth play live (arranger with speakers built in) and create musiv via PC? As there anything like that? Is there an arranger you can use for PC studio recording and software just like you do with workstation? Something like "all-in-one"?
When will you create an a real full hybrid keyboard, with both functionality... Or maybe a keyboard with some 3 iPads with software instead controllers to change between one kind of keyboard, even include an a tutorial keyboard mode like synthesia, over keys.. Or a Jupiter 80 mode also, Jeje.. Just dreaming but I should patent my idea.. Blessings from Chiapas Mexico.
Hi, I am a singer looking to do solo work on side and am interested in the arranger qualities....what keyboard did you sample on top there with the latin style you played? Im looking for a ton of backing music so I can sound like full band, and sing.... THANKS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Janine Taft idk I feel like if u can play a nice piano song like alota people do .. why would u need some cheesy loop? idk just my thoughts, hope u get what u need.. I know I could just play the piano and make songs on any machine or just work with a producer or record label... studios often have side features to suit ur needs
hey, which one is best for making good hip hop beats? and it doesn't have to be all the snapping, chain sounds, and that hype stuff. but I really like the workstation, yet it is missing the part he arranger has, which is being able to make one man band sounds. I'm making beats for myself to make my own music and I'm just buying one keyboard for now. any ideas?
Most any keyboard out there today, has things called "Drum Kits" which are triggered by you playing the key bed itself, rather than having to rely solely on "preset rhythms." Look into this: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Pa700--korg-pa700-61-key-arranger-workstation
I don't know. I want to compose orchestra music and I believe the arranger would be my best bet but the workstation sounds sound better and i can tweak them??
And WHO says that "workstations" sound "better" than "arrangers?" I have heard total CRAP come from "workstations" yet really beautiful stuff from "arrangers." Here, I did the following on a CASIO WK-1350, and I used only FOUR tracks, to produce this: soundcloud.com/skyy38/the-giant-hand-from-outer
Rich is great at what he does. This was very cohesive and understandable.
I solved my keyboard dilemma by buying the Kronos X and the PA900. Happy, happy, happy.
hi, which keyboard out the two that you have mentioned has better sound quality in terms of individual sounds like Pianos and EPs. And to what extent is one keyboard better than the other?
Well said, Rich!
You can't go wrong with Korg. I have been using Korg Keys since 1993.
I like having both then you have the best of both worlds.
thanks for this. a very no-nonsense recap of many features and pros/cons of each kind of keyboard and not a lot of trying to pimp korg per se, which I admit I expected more of. bravo and thanks again. as a composer still wrestling with what to get, it is at least a start as I knew little about arrangers.......and stores frustratingly almost never have them in the store.

Thank you so much Rick, Your presentation on Choosing the right keyboard nailed it for me, an Arranger is what I need and I'll now be able to find the right Korg Arranger in a music store down town.
What did you decide on?
There is a LOT of great info here. Thanks, Rich!
Rich your demos are why I bought my Kronos thanks man best purchase I ever made your very awesome at what you do
I just wish you could export the screen of the Kronos to a monitor.
I'm just realizing I've never used my Kronos at its full potential. I'm gonna have to find my manual again. I think I might try an arranger too. I'm still using my old Triton extreme this is a strong beast...still in love with it like the first time I bought it. That video was usual.
You are awesome in explaining the Utility
Thank you! I needed a comparison. (: im currently a local singer in my community wanting to up my game wiyth a keyboard! i just needed to know the difference. THank you! thank you! thank you!'
How about combining both technologies into one board!
Genos and Pax4?
How about adding the price of both and paying the total😂
Great video. Though even us "Workstation guys" would like some of those "Arranger" features. Notably (Dedicated hard of soft buttons) for transpose & octave (For when the band you sit in with does the song in a different key), more ways to incorporate articulations so those huge sample libraries sound less static. Finally, if not harmonizers, vocoders that are at least 16 band so they're useful beyond a novelty. ;)
Transpose button should be available on both Workstation and Arrangers
Why should it be separate? Wish there was a keyboard which could do both
my mans said a properly equipped arranger.
The absolute swagger.
Workstations and arrangers are just better for live perf !
problem is it's hard to transfer that sound quality from synth to the daw. majority of audio interfaces will degrade sound quality in my opinion
@@martinkulik9466 use an UAD product.you won't notice any difference in quality. Awesome converters!
At last a very clear explanation!! Thank you..Very useful !
Thank you for the information, we are going to share with our users!
Why can't someone make one that has all the features of both
modern workstations actually have quite a bit of arranger features in them. the lines have been, and continue to get blurred.
yea. roland already did with their FA series. i own a 2011 kronos and an FA-06.
Chaplin Gean you are so right! They simply do not want to combine the both in a single one!
That would be redundant, in the now.
The only REAL difference now, is the price tag.
Absolutely right!
Let's just call them ARRANGER WORKSTATIONS!
Very helpful video, thanks.
now my confusion has elevated to the next level :(
Go for something with Drawbars
Then you get the organ sounds for worship

The best video about keyboards ever!
really useful video, for people who r confused with variety of keyboard models!!!

Thank You So Much.. Great Information...
thanks much! I thought these were the same. very helpful
I got M3 Xpanded but I'm saving for PA as well. I need both.
Nice 👍
I need an arranger-station 😒😂
Same here. A micro-series sized one. I need a cross between the microARRANGER and the microSTATION. A...microSTRANGER.
Hell, if they throw some sampling functionality in there, they can call it microSTRANGLER.

PA-600 in the NOW, is only $950!
Cutting right to the chase, I like it.
It's intertesting to see how far Korg has come with their workstations since the M1 and the 01/W.
Waiting for tons of high quality sounds, sound editor, sequencer and styles in one product.

I am also keen to learn how to make karaoke tracks myself ( instead of buying them online) so that I can record cover songs as well. Which of the two keyboards would meet that requirement.
Piyush Sharma Yamaha
Question for anyone that know: The Arrangers shown had one that had the music score on the screen. Is it possible to record a piano piece and during playback you find a wrong note and can modify it right there and not have to mess with a computer and midi file software etc?? If so what model of keyboard would that be? thanks.
How about organs? I like Yamaha Electone organs. Does Korg make something similar?
Excellent !
Very informative thank you very much
This was very useful workstation synths for me :)
I need an 88 key synth with weighted keys heavier in lower lighter in higher I want the features of a kronos at a lower price any recommendations?
great vid wish I saw this before I bought my new board.
What did you pick up?
SO DID THE KRONOS X get replaced with THE NEW KRONOS 2 or THE KRONOS LS???
Pity you didn't release the Kross2 editor at the same time as the board, instead of making us wait at least 6 months. I'm really hoping it will make navigating the workstation a lot better experience so that I can set it up to do what your Kross2 demos claim it can.
Helo.sir.so pa 600 is only an arranger keyboard and not a workstation.?
Very informative, thank you very much.
However, I would like to know which one of the two is better for live stage shows in a band context. I'm getting the impression that the workstation is better than the arranger, but both can pull it off?
Great video!
Anybody please tell me .....what is the difference b/w korg pa600 and korg pa700
Great video!!!!!!!
Korg tr 61 or pa 700 is best for creating music plzz answer plzzzz
I just bought a Korg Kronos 2, Roland Jupiter 80 and Yamaha Motif XF7. It's all you really need.
What about a purely "Synth" keyboard? What would you choose?
Thank you... Very informative
im going to buy korg krome yesterday, but then i start thinking, what if the next year come out somthing new, like a bigger tuch screen an a sythesizer work stasion with arranger applications? aniway i wait more ,for now im just practice on my midi keybord for pianno tecnkis!
THAT is a bad way to proceed.
Pick something up NOW and work with it, because it will be a long time before your "dream keyboard" makes an appearance.
Clears it right up!
I literally want a combination of these two. I need a workstation arranger...
Then get a PA700.....
@@a.barnard3205 you are right pa700 pa1000 pa4x are the best arrager workstation combination
So how much for that worksataion? 😬
Thanks, I need the Korg Kronos 2 2015 88 keys please.

Hi,
I am a singer looking to do solo work on side and am interested in the arranger qualities....what keyboard did you sample on top there with the latin style you played? Im looking for a ton of backing music so I can sound like full band, and sing....
THANKS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
+Janine Taft That's a PA600. Check back at 0:12
Janine Taft idk I feel like if u can play a nice piano song like alota people do .. why would u need some cheesy loop? idk just my thoughts, hope u get what u need.. I know I could just play the piano and make songs on any machine or just work with a producer or record label... studios often have side features to suit ur needs
One of the main differences is that the arranger keyboard has loudspeakers, however, the synthesizer not. Exceptions do not break rules, though...
??? Korg PA4X, Yamaha Genos???

hey, which one is best for making good hip hop beats? and it doesn't have to be all the snapping, chain sounds, and that hype stuff. but I really like the workstation, yet it is missing the part he arranger has, which is being able to make one man band sounds. I'm making beats for myself to make my own music and I'm just buying one keyboard for now. any ideas?
Casio MZ-X500.
Period.
Most any keyboard out there today, has things called "Drum Kits" which are triggered by you playing the key bed itself, rather than having to rely solely on "preset rhythms."
Look into this:

Which kb is good for beginners
Does a workstation have styles?
I don't know. I want to compose orchestra music and I believe the arranger would be my best bet but the workstation sounds sound better and i can tweak them??
You can tweak ANYTHING, you want, sound wise on the CASIO MZ-X500
And WHO says that "workstations" sound "better" than "arrangers?"
I have heard total CRAP come from "workstations" yet really beautiful stuff from "arrangers."
Here, I did the following on a CASIO WK-1350, and I used only FOUR tracks, to produce this:
