    Great review!
    I would have liked to see the bottom fans as exhaust. The fins on the RTX 3070 push air direcly into the bottom fans, so an intake actually fights the gpus cooler. As exhaust 2 bottom fans might be able to remove a significant amount of the hot air coming from the gpu, while passivley making it easier to pull cool air through the side panel and reducing the overal temperature in the case for better cpu thermals. Still a very detailed review!

    I think they could do a version without the front IO panel, use the logo as the power button, and turn the psu 90 degree, to make the cables even short and clean.

    It's nice for those new to building PCs but I'd like to have a semi-custom loop (alphacool) in one and I already have a SFX PSU that I paid good money for, including custom braided cables. I also have the parts for a loop, including the pump-block combo, radiator, quick disconnect fittings etc. I don't see why they won't sell the case standalone or with different parts combos. There are many people who might be interested in the case but won't want to deal with paying all the money upfront to sell the unnecessary parts later.

    Current pricing:
    Lian Li A5 + v850 + ML240 cooler = $385 - NR200P Max is going for over $450 now. The A5 route gives you more room for cooler or PSU upgrades dollar wise.

    Great review as always. I'm surprised though in 2021 that CM refuses to include a USB type C as part of the IO. Was really hoping the successor to the NR200P would've included that. Would've been a slam dunk in my opinion if it included a type C port.

    • @KitGuruJames
      @KitGuruJames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I can see your point but I suppose its not too difficult to plug in type-C at the back in an sff case like this as it would more than likely be placed on the desk, so not as awkward to get to as a bigger case on the floor etc.

    • @madness1931
      @madness1931 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'm pretty sure reversing the fans with intake on top and exhaust down below would do miracles for the temperatures. That way you have two intakes with fresh air (cpu & gpu) and outtake near the bottom, expelling the heat generated by the system. Now some might say exhausting from the top is preferable, but only the OG nr200p is better suited to that config, with two fans pushing in from below, and then GPU and CPU heat being expelled from the top. Overall some of the two best SFF cases out there!

    • @Havanu81
      @Havanu81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewszerbiak7330 For most of these cases we're only talking about a few different degrees anyway, so every little bit helps. In my case, just reversing the CPU cooler direction on my NR200 helped tremendously when running CPU+GPU on full load. Granted, this is not a common usage pattern, but it is the best way to test the true thermal limits of a cooling solution, as both heat sources are maxed out. I always find it odd that reviewers either test CPU or GPU, but seldom both at the same time, even though some games can be quite punishing on both.

I also like Optimum Tech a lot, great production values.

      @KitGuruJames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This might be one of the very rare occasions where I'll say a GPU with a blower style cooler may benefit.
      There's a lot of heat soak from the GPU going to the radiator in this case. A blower that exhausts most of the GPU heat out of the back of the case could help CPU temperature.
      Unfortunately I didn't have a blower card on hand to test the theory.

  • @Asymmatrix

    IS there no heat buildup problem having a drive directly on the power supply and/or between the GPU and power supply?

    • @KitGuruJames
      @KitGuruJames 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That will all depend on how much load is put on the system but there should be some airflow across the drive since the AIO fans are directly above it.

    Great review!!! The thing I like is the way the cables from the PSU and AIO hoses are custom length so you don't have a wad of cables in every crevice. I can confirm that 2 Noctua or Artic 120 x 120 x 15mm fans will work in the bottom which does help about 10° with the temps. Using the vented side panel panel also helps with temps on higher wattage CPU / GPU. I have a AMD 5900x and Radeon RX 6900 XT at max draw the temps are within optimal.

      Honestly, the extra fans at the bottom are pointless.
      The one gpu side as an intake just hits the riser cable and as exhaust it hardly makes a difference other than bringing more dust into the system.
      I took mine out, reduced noise, reduced power consumption, stopped air drafts wafting into my hands.

    For me the NR200P Max is a bit of a mixed bag - it's definitely great for building and the convenience can't be ignored. However, the performance of the stock NR200 is just better by all accounts. In the NR200 you are able to side mount the radiator as an intake with a horizontal GPU, which helps the cpu temps a lot. Its layout is also more flexible - i.e do you want bottom or side radiator, and vertical or horizontal gpu?. The NR200 can also accommodate tower coolers rather than being forced to use an AIO.

    • @JustSomeGuy009
      @JustSomeGuy009 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that installing a radiator at the bottom would he a bad idea and will cause damage to the AIO. And the stock NR200P doesn't allow mounting to the top unfortunately. Which is probably why the Max was changed to allow it.

      Not really, the one gpu side the riser cable blocks any flow, and fan psu side does nothing, other than add noise.
      I really loathe this extra fan advice, it’s not needed.
      Only heat ever felt is the psu venting through the rad.
      Wasted £30 on Corsair fans.
      My cpu (5600) is 40c max and 6950xt hits 78c max with the mesh panel.

I currently run a Ryzen 5900x, 32 GB Ram (3600Mt/s) 2.5TB M.2 NVME, 4TB SSD & RTX3080Ti on my LG 4K Oled and love the experience. I’m looking at going to a Closed Loop water cooling setup shortly. At the moment p, while getting a little warm on the GPU, no throttling has ever occurred and next to no performance drops either 🥰👍🥳 the NR200 is an awesome little pc case to build in 🥰👍

  • @marcin_karwinski

    Oh they are able to improve on the design a lot... just by adding extra centimeters in height to allow for a dual rad/quad fan in total - top and bottom - or triple rad/hexa fan - top and bottom and side - organisation. They could replace the simple metal plate front panel with a reservoir with an integrated pump, fill/drain ports on the outside/bottom edges and connections to all the rads routed out of sight, then it could be the only mass produced triple rad SFF for CPU and GPU open loop liquid cooling with massive heat capacity due to large amount of rad volume... I mean triple 280mm would have made it truly maxxed out... And they could start offering it with the 1kW+ PSUs they've released at the same time as this MAX variant, just to have a lot of leeway for both een more power hungry and heat-generating components. Those alterations would have made this case more as the name suggests ;)

    • @Havanu81
      @Havanu81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Keep in mind that by keeping the same chassis as before is probably a cost-based decision, as fabrication of this variant is only a matter of swapping some panels around, keeping the manufacturing cost down. The options you suggest would push the whole config into the 450€-500€+ territory, which pushes the case into boutique custom cases section of the market, where the materials used are probably not premium enough as most cases in that segment are made of aluminium, turning this into a very low volume product.

    • @marcin_karwinski
      @marcin_karwinski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Havanu81 Well they could somewhat easily add a side-mount same as on the regular variants albeit maybe moved lower same as the mobo assembly, that way you could have a 2 rad variant, and the front panel switch for a watercooling reservoir/pump combo could be almost as easy, since the fron structure already has a few holes so both the cabling and tubing has space/cutouts somewhat present. From cost and tooling perspective it's a realtively small bump, and the case could function as a promotional combo unit for all the best things on offer, thus going for the higher powered PSU could well promote their new SFX PSUs as well...

    • @Havanu81
      @Havanu81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcin_karwinski True! But how many people really water-cool their GPU's with a custom loop, voiding the warranty while they're at it? It just seems like a highly risky customized setup that not many will attempt. Let's not forget that this is really an entry level SFF case pricewise.

    • @Havanu81
      @Havanu81 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marcin_karwinski I don't think a GPU would still fit vertically with a radiator and fan installed that way. In the OG nr200, there was barely enough room to fit a normal CPU aio on the side-mount to begin with.

    • @marcin_karwinski
      @marcin_karwinski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Havanu81 It might have been true earlier, but nowadays, with all the price hikes, you could easily find GPUs with a manufacturer installed block in the water-cooled variants... thus not only do you not void warranty but also you could get those for the same price as regular fanned units. Thus a mass-produced solution would certainly be first and only on the market ;) Good creds for the marketing department. And the MAX variant, even though you might consider it entry level SFF pricewise, is not exactly entry-level - the regular might have been, and it was cheaper due to the manufacturer being able to mass produce them. So yeah, I think that they could have gone a step further before calling the case "MAX" ;)
