It's not a bird, a plane, a drone, or a quadcopter.. It's a NUTBALL. Alex and Stefan scratchbuilt a flying RC NUTBALL and took it for it's maiden voyage! This plane is crazy and can built out of $1 worth of foamboard. Add a Power Pack B and this nutty ball is ready to fly!

And this is why the Nutball is my favourite plane. You fly it like it costs $5 because it literally does (the replaceable stuff).
It is just so much fun to fly. Glad you guys got a Nutball out again as the original videos on the Nutball on 2S do not do it justice. I fly mine of 3S and it is a perfect power setup for this plane.

Now there was a return to your roots... I was already an FT fan when the first swappables were introduced, and although I never built a Nutball I did make an FT Flyer, and it was one of my first RC planes. I've built many FT designs since, and have added several foamies and balsa builds to the fleet, but it was FT during the early Nutball era that got me in the air. Bravo, chaps.

It is funny to me that this video just came out. I built a nutball randomly last week. I didn't have any reason other than boredom, and I had a sheet of foam board and components. I remember how fun all the easy 1 sheet swappables are and from time to time I'll build one. Glad to see you guys just doing the same thing.

the vlogs are getting better and better. it's like watching the oooold flitetest again. the current episodes feel a little bit sterile. I'm not complaining, its ok as long as we have the vlog, just saying. just 3 people having fun doing silly stuff, people flying for the first time... Ian is great and very likeable, Stefan is like a ball of awesomeness and fun whatever he does, Alex is great, you can feel the fun he's having. Silliness, fun and nothing more. thats what I missed about FT. I still love the episodes but they feel more like a television show nowadays (to me). the vlog gives me the feeling of being part of the family and being there with you, I just sit here infront of my pc and smile. thank you for starting vlogging Alex!! dont stop! maybe at VLOG9000. greetings from Poland!

Great video, having fun is the name of the game... Its so nice to see a nutball being enjoyed . NOTE... its very important that the COG should be set at 25% back on the circle, your version looks to be tail heavy, when tail heavy the rear end will tend to drop and sensitivity will become an issue.. however even when set poorly it can be flown.. The popular nutball thread on rcgroups is now at 1053 pages long, its definitely one of those models that will always put a smile on your face... cheap, easy, and fun...

With the right dihedral and CG they actually 'fly' pretty well, in that they can be very stable, agile and predictable. They certainly don't fly like a plane though.

I'm the original designer of what is called the Nut Ball, back in 2004. It was meant as a stepping stone along disc flight formats, and to me, a foot note along developing many lines. I had no idea years later it became such a cult favorite. I have certainly since done much better, much better, and these are not so temperamental. It's original name was nicknamed the flying Potato Chip for the record.

I already had the electronics, so all it took was a single sheet of foam ($1). I also made long-lasting templates from the plans onto poster board($1), but that's not required. I'd say the plane with battery is worth $50 (excluding the radio transmitter)

note...did you check the balance ? was never answered, Stephan was too busy getting the controls going in the correct direction...With the COG set at 25% on the circle the Nutball will fly like any normal plane.. only its easier than most.. its not touchy at all But like all planes too much power and speed will make the controls have more effect..Fly with a 3s lipo and larger props, at lower throttle settings, for a slow n easy flight..Stable slow flight, harriers, nose held high, is where a nutball excels .. Highly recommended the nutball is always fun because it is both aerobatic and stable at the same time..
