Do you mean staying in the same position within a company for too long, or staying with the same company as a whole? I've seen some people move between positions within the same company and they seem to be very successful

@@diegofula staying in one position. Most of the companies I worked for had me stuck in one position even when I made an attempt to transfer internally. Everytime I made a change, it was good for me, because it advanced my skill set and eventually led to a higher paycheck.

In IT field, If you don't have experience, it doesn't matter if you're loyal or not, you are stuck in the job involuntarily. This market only wants unicorns and your boss knows it, therefore will treat you like shyt and will micromanage you because they know if you quit, you won't find anything for a long time unless you have 7+ years of XP under your belt. Now, I am fcked because I only have 2 years of XP in my field, although my resume is not that bad, when they see 2 years of XP, they toss it in the garbage or close the window and hit Shift+Del so it doesn't even make it to their bin folder.

@@thenightporter 😀 I was really surprised too. Before that offer came I'd had 3 different job offers from other companies which unfortunately had offered me less than what I asked for. I was very adamant about getting that amount because I was looking for a job in another country and I would have to relocate there. The review process took 2 months, which I consider long and I seriously didn't think I would hear from them back. I had 3 interviews (1st screening with recruiter, 2nd with hiring manager, 3rd panel interview with different managers and directors). All 3 interviews were online. In my final interview I was told I will hear back within 2 weeks or sooner. Exactly after one week and half I got an email from a recruiter saying that they want to have a call with me to discuss a feedback. I thought to myself discuss a feedback? I didn't think it will be an offer because the email didn't seem like that. I was very nervous till next day (the call was scheduled for the next day). I imagined they would just give me some made up feedback and reasons why they decided not to moving forward with me. Finally on the call I was told immediately that they are happy to extend an offer and then the recruiter said the salary they would like to offer and yes I swear it was more than what I said in my screening interview. They will also pay for my relocation which is a huge financial relief for me. I was seriously shocked. After all my trust was brought back that yes there exist normal companies and I have been really lucky to find one.

My biggest mistake was getting too comfortable in a job; it always resulted in me getting laid off because of restructuring or other nonsense caused by upper management errors. As always, those at the lower level of the totem pole pay the price by losing their jobs.
Other mistakes include trusting too much in companies and bosses, believing their moral nonsense, thinking they care about us, mixing my personal life with my professional one instead of keeping them separate, being too honest in job interviews, etc.
I could write a wall of text about more mistakes I’ve made that, in hindsight, I would never do again, but I'll think what I shared is enough for now.

@@chancia8990 Similiar thing in Hungary, Hungarian "KKVs"(Small and mid-sized companies) are known for lack of onboarding, awful wages/wage fraud, toxic atmosphere.
I worked at 4 and all 4 are gone by now, none of them lived longer than ~15 years. Mostly minimum wage, do 2-3 people's jobs at the same time(in my case it was minimum wage for 4 roles..), but it's more common that they try to cheat wages by declaring you to the government on minimum wage and pay out the rest in cash.
Nearby small company offered me 400k HUF a month net, turns out it's minimum wage + 200k in envelope, fuck that. Previous job, that has gone bankrupt by now refused to hire a CNC machinist candidate, because he asked for ~520k before taxes with like 20 years of experience.
Constant "no money", but I had access to their financial documents as I was in the middle of manufacturing process, I could literally see the price of their orders, 2 month run through job with 80k€ net profit on paper that's certainly more due to cheaping out on materials(billing the requested materials, then buying lower quality), I see large shipments of materials arrive for house renovations for the boss, I'm being hounded by partners to pay for materials ordered, but they push payments later.. because no money. Months after I got a new job I heard they've been firing people to save money... but bought a brand new Hybrid Rav4 for the project manager, who's been cheating weekend hours for more money.
This was the worst, but the first 3 weren't much better either. Moving on to Bosch and then elsewhere after that was wild, training material, proper process of work hours, no random papers, but an electronic system, you can check how much you worked, you work 20 hours more a month you get paid that much more, boss doesn't reprint your timesheet to shorten it to pay less.

Yes if you swing the fences, you can strike out but if you’re 29 years old, you can get many many more at bats as long as you remain respectful and don’t burn your bridges. You have lots of time to recover at that age. I’m 64 now and I cannot afford to swing the bat anymore. I just bought and get on first and have the rest of the team drive me around the bases. It’s sad but true.

I was able to upgrade to a great new position after two years (current). Never too late! I'll be continuing the trend for the remaining years. I leveled up as a Technician in a certain industry, but then switched as there was nowhere else to go from where I was at. Started all over with a new industry, and had to step down, but it's actually really refreshing as I have a better idea what to do with this new step forward. Thanks for your content mate!

@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Not too late mate, you are still very young. I spent all my 30's in one industry and I got places, but then my work place went bankrupt because of Covid. At that point I was done with that Industry as I did pretty much all the different positions. So I decided to start over, in a completely different one - from a quiet Technician, to a loud and verbal Customer/Sales/Marketing position. Refreshing to say the least...Even with the drop of salary, it was worth it for the experience. I got my 2 years experience, then shopped for another similar job, and now I'm transitioning into a job that will pay me more than what I was getting as a Technician. With all this work knowledge from channels like this, I can plan better. Many stick in the same area/industry all their lives ...even if that pays OK, how many you see with their souls completely drained out? I think Covid was a blessing for many, as they were able to make new plans ....clean slates with their lives....

No, being made to feel guilty for taking sick time is NOT in your head. I was hit by a drunk driver while in the course of doing my job in 1998. She totaled my car and broke my arm. The state I lived in at the time had a law that said you could not drive with a compromised limb, if you were in another accident it is automatically your fault. I was on workers comp for 6 weeks until my cast came off and I was made to feel guilty about that!!!! I had zero choice in the matter! It was insane. I no longer care what they think. Especially now. PTO does not roll over, it's use it or lose it and you can bet your ass I'm using it.

At orientation they told us not to call in sick, one reason, you're less likely to be promoted. But that is listed as a benefit. Also, I don't recall anyone telling me that sick days can be used to take a family member to the doctor as well, but I did leave orientation early because I had a bad cold.
      I wonder if that's legal?
I developed an illness and needed to take sick days. It was after that that my boss began to get hostile.
My boss didn't care if you were sick. She wanted you to come in. One time, my doctor told me I had, "...almost pneumonia." I told her what he said. She was non-pulsed by the news. I don't think she said a word.
Put yourself first. If you need to take some sick time, try to get a dr.'s. note and take it.

After he passed on he left me with several thousand dollars in his will. At the time he left me all that money, I was working a toxic job and looking back feeling that I could've knocked out 2 birds with one stone on the same day, both with the inheritance money I had at the time and quitting that toxic job (I shouldn't have overlooked the signs that I had toxic supervisors that ultimately didn't want me working with them). Instead, it was 9 years apart between inheriting that money and then being let go of.

Yup, not having a clear career plan definitely halted my career, as well. Ended up doing a career change in my mid-twenties, which isn’t old or “too late,” but I’m definitely behind, compared to my peers who are doing better than me because they had a plan after college and stuck with it. Ah well. But, I also took some jobs at low quality employers, because I didn’t know what the hell I was doing and took whatever to “get my foot in the door.” 🤦‍♀️ it wasn’t until I did that career change and started working for a real company that I was able to formulate an actual plan.
Not negotiating also screwed me! I would take the first offer, because I was either under the assumption that that’s what the role paid, and I should just be happy for the job/small pay increase from the prior role. It wasn’t until I checked the job market for my next move if I don’t get the promotion, only to realize I’m about $10k/year underpaid. I’m definitely not making that mistake ever again. lol

I don't know if you have been a Toastmaster for decades, or practice over and over before you record, but your presentations are so professional. You are so concise, you don't seem to be thinking things over as you say them; you are very confident in what you are saying. Some other channels also have good advice, but pause a lot, stumble over words, continually pausing, don't seem to be able to express their thoughts very well. You also come across as very confident and again, I never find myself thinking, "get on with it, already!" Or "what is he trying to say?" Not only will I be using your advice to find a new job, but I will be studying the way you communicate your points. You would make a really wonderful teacher.
    Thank you.

One mistake I made was working in a giant corporation and applying internally to a different department (was a lateral move) and thinking that I'd land in a spot where I'd be more satisfied with my job/career. It didn't work - the whole process was awkward and my career slid back even further. Should've limited my search to a different employer.

I worked in the corporate offices of an American retail giant. Everyone has heard of this company. When I started there, I was told that the company expected everyone to not stay in any position more than 18 months; so basically, you were networking nonstop and applying for interal positions every year.

Okay, gonna have to drop a truth-bomb on this: The biggest advice I can give is to get yourself enough passive income where you aren't killing yourself at a job that doesn't appreciate you. I am not there yet, but I only have to work maybe 2 months out of the year to make bills. The rest pays down remaining mortgage debt. 3 or 4 more years of this and I am done!! Now if the market turns again where I can snap up another house at sub-3%, my landscape changes. Hell, I am even looking to commercial properties as there are some interesting options.

Bryan! A question for you. I am in a sticky situation at my current job. Boss is hard. One thing he does is repeadedly telling me "I'm not explaining this again", and "We already discussed this X times". With the latter one, he refers to any question I may have that's related to a topic discussed before, but I ask these questions to verify and better understand. I've been there for four months. Is that behavior normal?

I'd have to disagree with the negotiating offers section. That's not apparently a choice if you're living in a third-world country especially if you're not in the metro. It's not that we don't get regret it, but rather we don't get a choice in regards to what salary we can get due to the limited offers in our area.

Even in the U.S., there are quite a few career fields in which employers simply will not negotiate, period. “This is the offer. Take it or leave it.”
I’ve worked in one of them for more than 20 years but am on my way out. There are several reasons, and this is one of them.

I believe in the DeleteMe segment, the company's name should be pronounced 'e c squared' rather than "e c 2". The name seems to refer to Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity, E = mc^2 where E is energy, m is mass and c^2 is the speed of light squared.

Don’t listen to Brian. He flip flops his views like Kamala. He tells you to quit your job then tells you don’t quit your job. He’ll do anything for clicks and views. 😂
