If you liked this, go watch "Short Circuit" from the 1980s. Its pretty much this same concept but executed a bit differently. Johnny 5 was the original Coolio Robot Dood who cracked Elmer Fudd puns while blasting his 1980s sci-fi laser at the bad robots!

Short Circuit was always a classic, though for children. Characters like Chappie and Data take this concept and add serious and adult concepts. But, don’t get me wrong, Short Circuit was great

Seeing a robot, with industrial strength machinery for limbs, beat a human into a bloody pulp while making childish innocent quips is both terrifying and hilarious.

Yeah, being paraplegic will give him free time to reflect on life choices.
Love the camera work in this movie, they dont zoom in too much, they dont cut too fast from scene to scene, the pacing just feels right and you get to enjoy the details of each scene. They also shoot at angles and heights that are relatable to if you were there. It just feels so clean. Unlike michael bay's films.
CGI is also top notch. Why movies like this don’t make a huge success and get a sequel…

I love this film.
Everyone out in it is out to _use_ Chappie for themselves, to advance careers, get rich, or, in a more morally gray 'use' of chappie, and less inherently evil, Dev Patel's "Deon" character wants to use AI for the good of everyone, and for him to be the one to have done it, it doesn't seem selfish, but it is, quietly, as he does it in _his_ name, not the company's, which causes the conflict with a jealous co-worker.
And Chappie has to navigate all of that all while not understanding any of it, and just understanding the words used by those around him to discern their motives.
Hugh Jackman's character really didn't use their words well.
Fuck the company. Just because you pay a genius doesn't mean you should get all the credit for his work.
Chappie was one of the most heart ripping experiences of my life. I would watch it again but... I can't. I just can't.

A child with inhuman strength and a love for his people. This is more or less what could happen if a child had the ability to fight back

This movie honestly Did a really good job at making the “protagonist” a hero on the wrong side. The character Jackman plays isn’t necessarily bad but in the perspective of who Chappie is with hes the antagonist, because let’s be honest, Chappie’s “parents” aren’t good people, While Chappie is just innocent minded caught in the middle of all this. At least that’s what I got out of it

It’s so unfortunate to hear this movie didn’t do good this is literally one of the best films I’ve seen in a while
I blame advertising, the ads kinda made this film look like a dinky comedy, of which I had seen tons of already and so had no interest.
I think media that revolves around transhumanism is very upsetting and uncomfortable to most people, reasonably so.
The movie's fatal flaw is the two Die Antwoord musicians cosplay-fantasizing themselves as actual gangsters for this movie. Ninja has zero charisma for the screen (or in general), and Yolandi isn't much better. Any movie with two unlikeable lead characters is going to struggle with audiences.

Really wish they made a 2nd movie. Neil Blomkamp’s movies are always pretty great showing potential world changing events and how they could and most likely will be mismanaged, corrupted or preyed upon by humans who see robots or in the case of Chappi AI as nothing more than a tool for humans and as with district 9 how our first alien contact was impressive at first but soon became more of a burden and the prawn became 2nd class to the humans. Also gotta love the South African flair & grit Blomkamp brings to each of his movies.

I love how this final scene Chappie uses everything he's learned up to that point being a tough gangster, but also not using guns and at the same time not going on a murderous rampage and forgiving his worst enemy when he could have easily gone on a spree.

Movies like this and Prestige shows u how good of an actor High Jackman really is. Anyone who watched this movie definitely wished for this. Such a great actor.
One detail I never noticed is how when Deon is transferred into the robot his movements and mannerisms are more quick, more fluid and human like compared to Chappie's more stiff movement.
That and having to adjust to the new body as his movements were unalanced and a bit clumsy as first.
I always read it as his movements being unrestrained.
Like your brain accounts for the weight of your limbs but his new body is weighted differently, but he's still capable of quick precise movements, as opposed to Chappie who learned to walk as a robot and opts for a more stable gait.
Chappie has less experience Deon’s consciences has honed his movements for 30 years or less years while chappie was made in less the time

This is a HIGHLY underrated movie IMO, just like District 9 was. Loved Chappie, loved Die Antwoord basically playing themselves in this! Just a great watch!

Chappie was a completely different movie. It talked about so many things, like District 9, such as discrimination, government corruption, predatorial corporatism and even stuff like learning to love.
And instead of making a tragic ending, it gives a hopeful yet uncertain ending. It's such a powerful statement, to give the viewer something outside the box, not a great orchestral happily ever after, but a pseudo-realistic, humane finish.

I watched Chappie long ago, but I totally don't remember this, I need to rewatch, it's so good.
This is the movie that NEEDS a sequel. Why don't we ever get the sequels we want but Hollywood tears it's own limbs off to give us the sequels nobody asks for😭

I didn’t like the movie very much. Wouldn’t mind a sequel to it. But besides the actors, the acting, setting. And maybe the dialogue ish. Didn’t like the rest
Really underappreciated science fiction movie. A lot of quirky characters and a bit of a rushed and improbable premise but the end where humanity discovers immortality is within reach and simultaneously watching an uploaded human standing before a humanized AI both recognizing each other as the same is literally mind blowing.
A serious sequel with James Cameron or Ridley Scott would really be something to see.
That robot had mor character development and personality than Kristen Stuart in all the twilight movies.....

2:36 having not seen this movie, that man doesn’t look like he’s seriously injured…it’s too low to be a liver shot, so it might be in his stomach or intestines, but that’s super survivable with medical treatment.
Well considering that his maker is a wanted fugitive and so is Chappie he wouldn't get the help he needs and he was already bleeding out before this whole scene happened.

That wrench through in the beginning is f*ing brutal. I got hit by a similar sized wrench that someone had tossed to be, and I fumbled the catch and it hit me in the chest, leaving a pretty nasty bruise.
And that was from a friendly “here, catch” so if someone actually whipped one at you ☠️☠️
If a wrench like that was beamed at your chest, its probably going through, or at very least shattering ribs and rupturing organs.
Vincent's right femur has a compound fracture from that thrown wrench. That's why you see blood soaking through. So. Yeah.

The CG here looks pretty amazing.
The ending was so odd, normally a movie dealing with consciousness and putting the mind in a machine goes for something like it’s a dream and you can’t cheat death, but having the characters literally do that fills the mind with questions and it becomes more memorable instead of just a sad ending of them dying or one dying and the other moving on.
I could imagine in their universe they would find some way to Cybernetically enhance the human brain just so consciousness can be transferred and removed
No, his consousness was only copied, he actually died. If you copy a file on your computer and move it to a new computer, that doesn't mean you've moved the file, it only means you made a clone.

@@hhubhj44 I was just thinking this, the robot "Maker" isn't really him. It's just a robot with a copied memory to act like the human it once was, the human died and is gone forever. So whether or not the new consciousness should be considered a person or not, even though it's a copy, that's the real question.
Lol imagine having to tell people you got into a fight with a robot, not much of a fight but a fight and he utterly smashed you into the hospital…. It would almost be worth it

While the message of this movie is pretty obvious, a human being can be more Savage and inhuman than a robot can, this scene was still insanely cathartic. The sudden intense violence that happened when Hugh Jackman's character used the moose to attack the gang was shocking and threw me off. Seeing chappie get his revenge is awesome.
There is a line in Metal Gear Rising where Bladewolf (a robot) is explaining to the main character about how robots do not typically get used in acts of terror by terrorist groups because robots generally lack the capacity for brutality. Here we have Chappie not only savagely beating up Vincent but doing it in a way to make him suffer: Chappie is far more human than robot, even if he is purely synthetic.

That depends on what your definitions of savage and inhuman are, and lead to some rather philosophical questions. On the one hand, a robot wouldn't be vengeful or sadistic, if it would have to kill it would do so cleanly, efficiently and with purpose instead of savouring a human's fear or pain. On the other hand, pleading with a robot would be utterly useless precisely for those same reasons, while with a human you still have the possibility of connecting on a personal level, gaining sympathy, and being spared. A robot would never do that.

i don't know that robot beating was pretty savage. He dealt more damage than any human ever could.
i tried showing this movie to my girlfriend...and noticed that im so used to such fkd up things...that when the scene of chappie being beaten by the kids came, my girlfriend had to stop the movie due to almost having a panic attack...and i was like "wait...this IS very fucked up. its basically a kid getting beaten up in the streets like its nothing."
made me rethink a lot of stuff.
