I need to be "that guy". A lot of people think improvisation in movies, means the actor performs spontaneously, off-script and without preparation. Unfortunately, this is (extremely) rarely the case. Most actors will do an improvised scene, then the director will say "great, now let's shoot that again, but can you do what you did in the last take?" I would wager 95% of directors hate it when an actor goes off script or delivers a line that is not what the director envisioned (Tarintino is a great example). Having said that, some director's do the opposite and let the actor run wild with their lines. We rarely, rarely ever see a spontaneous improvisation done in one take and then used for the final cut. One great example of an improvised line/action that remains in the final cut is in the movie "The Bird Cage" in which Robin Williams slips over and continues with the take; and of course the most famous being "we're walking here!" Jim Carrey, a master of his trade, will take his own spin on his lines during rehearsal or would bring it to the director's attention before shooting. The "improv" then gets rehearsed, shot multiple times, then put in to the movie. It seems the term improvisation has had it's meaning stretched quite wide for the internet. I'm fun at parties.

@@nsasupporter7557 He is a great actor. His main problem is that his serious movie aren't mentioned as much as his Comedy roles. LIke the Majestic or The Number 23.
@@beauxr.benoit1374 right… but those movies you mentioned were flops unfortunately. His best known serious movies are Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Everybody loves those movies
@@nsasupporter7557 Thank you, and you right. I just listed them because they were on the top of my head.
@@beauxr.benoit1374 another great dramatic movie of his was Man on the Moon, the one where he portrays the real life comedian Andy Kaufman
Jim Carrey was amazing as Dr Robotnik in the first Sonic movie so glad he’s reprising his role as Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie can’t wait to see what hilarious stuff he does in Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Same 😃
I just wish they made him actually look like the character though.
@@GeteMachine well I mean the second movie is gonna have him look more like the actual character with the bald head and the long bushy mustache
Or Sonic 3?
Jim Carrey's #1 Iconic Role: *THE MASK!*
SOMEBODY STOP HIM, though not really.
I dunno. He killed it as Riddler
For some reason, I really didn't like that movie at all. At the same time, I loved the number 23. Everyone is different of course. I just thought the mask was really immature comedy so it was more annoying than anything.
The ultimate ad-libed movie: a buddy comedy with Jim Carrey and Ryan Reynolds!
Ryan Reynolds will never be a 1/3rd of the star Jim Carrey is. Jim Carrey is like Tom Cruise… in how big of a star he is. Ryan Reynolds isn’t an A plus like that. I mean, he is bigger now thanks to Deadpool. But he’s still not an A lister
Yea, Ryan Reynolds couldn't hold a candle to Jim.
Ryan Reynolds brings a maturity to his comments that would flabbergast Carrey.
We have lots of actors who can do actions, comedy, serious roles but Jim is a genre of its own.... What he does nobody can do....
EXACTLY! Thank you
I was elated to see him in Sonic... FINALLY, back to his happy form!
Another Sonic movie is coming to theaters again!!
I really liked Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik dancing to "Where Evil Grows". I can't wait till Sonic 2 comes out.
Yes I couldn't wait. So glad there are streaming services out there. Knuckles was so naive and angry, he was so cute lol.
That grinch scene with the table killed me as a kid and it still does
I think it’s safe to say that Jim Carrey is basically a living cartoon. Every character he plays that I’ve seen is super lively and spontaneous
Jim Carrey is a once in a life time talent. We are so lucky to have him
This man is my childhood hero. i remember growing up to all his movies! when i was a little kid, i re-watched the ace ventura pet detective movies over and over almost everyday, i swear my mom probably got so annoyed hearing me go "oshee-doo-doo-buu-buu." around the house xD
The chitty chitty bang bang had me rolling on the floor 😂
The last note " CHIiiiIiiTtTTYYY " I'm dying
Jim Carrey was a huge part of my childhood. I watched and LOVED pretty much everything he did. I still love him, and his movies still make me laugh my ass off. Never gets old. The man is a comedic legend, and he can improv his way thru anything, and it be the funniest part of whatever it is.
Jim Carrey is my favorite actor. Grinch, Ace Ventura, and the Sonic Movie was awesome.
Jim Carrey a part of my childhood, teenage years , and adulthood , a legend
"IT'S BECAUSE I'M GREEN, ISN'T IT?!" I love that part!
Ive actually learned alot about comedy from Jim Carry... He truly is a Mastermind behind it all
LOL that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang part had me in tears as a young kid! I had no idea that was off the cuff.
I dont know, if this was unscripted, but that rhino scene was pure gold
He’s the closest thing to a cartoon character in real life for me as a kid and I loved him for it.
He always finds a way to be funny
I loved him in the Sonic movie
It's the casual table flip at the end that always gets me every. time.
Edit: I just fucking love this man, he's just so pure and amazing and I love him. Gods, when we lose him it'll be a true tragedy.
We just lost The voice of Mufasa and Darth Vader!! That’s pretty dang sad!!! We will miss James Earl Jones!!
Jim Carrey is the only actor that fills me with sadness, when I consider the fact that I will live long enough to see his passing. Live long you magnificent bastard.
Jim is Comedy itself. We are so much blessed to have seen it perform. And what about his most serious roles? magnificent.
Honestly Jim Carey as Count Olaf was so underrated
OKAYYY! One of my favorite movies. 🙌🏾
Watch the test footage, it's fascinating.
I always imagined Jim playing Freddy Krueger now imagine him in the sweater with the razor glove and going off script in a bloopers segment. I'm cracking up right now and this doesn't even exist. 😅😅😅 Hats off Jim not just a great comedian but great actor as well
Jim Carrey is the king of improvising.
"Hello Clarice" always makes me laugh
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s been a long time since I watched that but the banging on the piano in Bruce Almighty just tonight had me laughing so hard I was in tears!! And his kind of “robot” voice as the robber in Fun With Dick and Jane was so damn funny I nearly am in tears with that too!!
Jim carrey forever a comedy legend!
Wow. Was not expecting those to be unscripted. Made me love Jim more. Hope he don't retire before sonic 3. Gonna miss him
Yea. He said he wants to be fat robotnic before he retire. So there's a chance.
The scene in Ace Ventura when he is in the mental hospital and after he notices a storage closet just goes out of it before slamming his head on a bench. You can see the doctor lose it just before it cuts.
Whether Jim retires for real or undergoes a well-deserved break from his career, one thing is clear: He's a legend.
He and Ryan Reynolds are one in the same. They don't act. They just be themselves
Pull your head outta your rear end and be more observant to his movies! Jim Carrey Does Not play himself! I’m soooo sick of people saying that! If you actually watch his movies, he’s different in all of them and is the only comedian who’s actually versatile.
@@nsasupporter7557 yeah but he is a family friend of my uncle and dad, ol school mates. I met him in his non acting state and can attest, he still holds true to his characters. Maybe it's cuz I was a kid and I loved his movies. Regardless, both are great actors. Both on their way to Robin Williams status. Just Carey is a decade ahead of Reynolds to achieving that status.
@@SirStoneHD “on their way to Robin Williams status??” Dude, Jim Carrey is already there!! 😳 he’s been there for years and years. In fact, he’s passed Robin Williams if anything. Jim is one of the biggest stars of all time and is on legendary status now. Again, pull your head outta your rear end and pay attention more. Ryan Reynolds will never be a 3rd of the star Jim Carrey is
@@nsasupporter7557 and get your head out of Carrey's rear. Lol. Your nose is turning brown.
@@SirStoneHD if you don’t already know that Jim Carrey is one of the biggest stars of all time then YOU’RE the one who needs pull your head outta your butt 😉
When it comes to Comedic Ab Living, Jim Carrey is a Master! Only one I can think of rivaling him would be Robert Downey Jr when he’s IronMan!!
Robin Williams could rival him
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man rivaling Jim Carrey. Never heard such nonsense.
@@Mikey-em8hs improvisation skill ....
@@niklas2933 Robin Williams and Jim Carrey are the only comedians I like truth be told
He’s so good. So sad that he is retiring 🥺 but he has so many movies for all to enjoy!
What? Seriously? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Better retire at the top of your game and when you’re still healthy enough to enjoy life. Good thing for him. Plus he might come back in à Fès years for a role if someone gives him an opportunity he wants to take. He has the luxury to do everything he wants.

20:31 i love that you can see him crack a big smile when Jim Carrey makes the most unhinged scream in pop culture history lmao
Imagine Jim Carrey's Cable Guy with Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin. What a thrilling psycho horror.
I thought I would hate the Sonic movie but I caught it on TV while procrastinating and Jim Carrey was an absolute delight.
when I think of actors that are great at improvising, Jim Carrey and Robin Williams are at the top of my list.
The fart story in good will hunting was ad libbed by Williams, and broke Matt Damon and the cameraman to the point where you can see the footage jigging slightly due to the camera shaking.
Cable Guy is so underrated! One of his best in my opinion.
Wouldn’t say it’s underrated. People like to hate that movie, but it actually was successful despite what people say. Now, you wanna know a REAL underrated Jim Carrey movie? Me, Myself and Irene! 😉 that was underrated!
… Cable Guy wasn’t underrated compared to Me, Myself and Irene. That movie flew under the rader and was robbed of all recognition
He sure seems to be so over the top and cooky,as Cable Guy it nearly was spooky!! LOL I rhymed!!!
20 reasons why Jim Carrey is such an absolutely amazing, iconic actor!!
the violin one will always crack me up lmao
In terms of ab libbing Jim Carrey is up there with Robin Williams🤣
So obvious
Love both of them
@@Disney65Fan Robin Williams and Jim Carrey are the only comedians I like honestly
I LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE THEM!
One of my favourite things about Jim Carrey is that majority of his scripts have "(Insert character he's playing) proceeds to act like Jim Carrey." in them.
What do you mean? If you’re trying to say that Jim Carrey plays himself you’re absolutely WRONG. He’s 1 of the most amazingly talented and great actors in cinema history. He’s 1 of the only comedians who’s very versatile
@@nsasupporter7557 You need to think before you type.
I'm saying that Carrey is such an amazing comedian and actor who is just organically hilarious that the writers of the script let him have free reign to add in whatever he wants in certain parts.
To be himself yet in character.
10:15 And the table flip is perfection as it balances on one leg before falling over.
I just rewatch Sonic last night just to see some of my favorite Jim Carrey moments.
2:19 The first time I saw "Fun With Dick And Jane," I couldn't believe how hard Jim hit the floor when he biffed the fall to the desk. My sister and I were silent for a few moments, and then just busted out laughing. The fact that he pops up and grabs the printout like he didn't just eat floor... Amazing. There was a feature on the DVD where they showed that scene, and you can hear the director react, like "Ohhh shit," or something like that.
love Jim Carrey can’t freakin wait to see him again as robotnik in sonic 2 🤩
He is one of the only actors to ever exist that has insanely unique talent. Like no one is as good as him.
"Do not pass go, do not collect 2 hundred dollars"
Yes, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (the second one) was just as good as Pet Detective (the first 1) in my opinion. Not alot of people liked When Nature Calls
@@nsasupporter7557 I thought it was funnier than the first one!! He’s just so bonkers in it!!! LOL I’m always laughing so hard when he’s trying to squeeze out of the fake rhino!! LOL
Angrily and Aggressively complimenting the guy bringing his latte's is great
Hence why Jim Carrey is my favourite actor of all time
My personal favorite line from the scene at 5:00 is "Solve world hunger - Tell NOBODY"
Truly the new sonic 2 movie was one of the most hilarious moments of jim carrey
Now that is one SMMMMOKIN' list!
Who else is a big Jim Carrey fan???
ME! When my parents took me to see Ace Ventura in early 1994 at 7 years old, I was hooked from them on
"I'd still have time to lay in bed stare at the ceiling and.. slip slowly into madness" I swear this line always made me chuckle 😂😂😂
Jim Carrey is an icon and legend in comedian roles
Another thing Carrey improvised was the catchphrase “smokin” in The Mask. The original catchphrase was snazzy but Carrey didn’t think it fit so while filming he said smokin rather than snazzy
Do not go in there.
Whoo!
SssssssSMOKIN'!
Alrighty then.
IT WAS ME!
I'm kicking my ass! Do you mind?!
I had a notification sound on an older phone where I downloaded from Zedge that “I’m kicking my ass do ya mind?” LOL I loved that!!!
