Allmax actually asked if they could use excerpts from this video in some promotional posts on social media. I said yes. 🧐 Full disclosure: I didn't take any sort of payment from them. Not so much as a free battery. Nada. And I think I said in the video, but I paid for all those batteries myself. So if you see this video being used by the company, it's totally cool with me as they should be happy with these results. But this test and any upcoming ones (annnd there will be another shortly) are completely independent, NOT sponsored, and I could care less in advance who wins. So fwiw my results are as objective and accurate as they can be. I don't even have monetization enabled on TH-cam, so I technically lose money on these things. 🥴 They do satisfy my own curiosity, though... as well as yours, I hope!
(I mean, Allmax doesn't exactly have a huge social media following, so I doubt any of you saw that.. but this is just in case you did, I don't want you to think this video was a shill thing.)

Bought several Allmax a while ago. Finally running out and happen to be at Lowe’s where there are several batteries on sale after Xmas. So want to say thanks for all the hard and time consuming work. One thing I would like to point out is the Duracell Optimum and similar type style cells are meant for a a very long shelf life with low self discharge. So that is also why they have lower overall capacity. SO they would be good for an emergency bag that you might not touch for 5+years vs something like the Allmax that you could be swapping out every few weeks/months depending on device.

Cool test with a lot to like about how you set it up and conducted it. One thing is bothering me though. @7:46 The Allmax batteries' meter has gone out (from dipping below three volts), and several other batteries' meters are still on. It gets worse; @7:51 the Allmax LED has gone out, and at that time I count 13 others still shining. So how can the Allmax batteries place 2nd in Ah (1.433 Ah in your spreadsheet), when they were among the first to go out?

"Battery Solutions" company in USA claims to have nearly 100% recycling of specifically alkaline cells and several other kinds of cells. It doesn't necessarily mean that they become batteries anew, but that the cells are partitioned into separates which are then sold and used in manufacturing of something rather than disposed of in a landfill.

Hi; Nice work... I think that one could do some more testing for different applications, but one's time in life is limited, and budget for cells (!), packs, sockets, meters, I'm sure adds up pretty quickly!
I used to work in a large mobile device company, and we had lots of test procedures, to cover pulse load performance, internal resistance, loaded life, delivered *energy* in Mw/hrs.... nobody seems to do that, through??
Anyway, I just ordered a pack of Allmax for our battery shelf 🙂

  • @kennedymcgovern5413

Haha, I got here because I went down the same road. I usually buy Energizer Max, but when I was on Amazon searching for them, I saw these "Allmax" guys. The price was too good to not, at least, find out who and what they are and so...TH-cam to the rescue!
And, thanks to your information, I pulled the trigger and bought 100 Allmax, for the same price I usually pay for 48 Energizers.
Yeah, I am a home user. But I buy in relative bulk because I hate running out. I have flashlights, headlamps, led lights...all kinds of stuff that run on AAA. With my usual buy of 48 Energizers...I needed more batteries today, on October 30...and my last purchase was in July.
With 100...and if you are right about these Allmax outlasting the Energizers, I will be set for AAAs for half a year of longer. And, if it all holds true...I will also choose Allmax when the AAs run out.
GOOD STUFF! Thanks for doing this work!

One very important consideration is leaking batteries, ever try to use your tv remote and did not work open the battery compartment and find an ozzing mess. All batteries will leak over time. Some last many years and some a few months. Duracell and Everready were the best machinale made.

5:00 Reusing batteries that can no longer work in a high drain device by putting them in a low drain device is a formula for a broken device. Large drains on a battery are very bad for them. Even though the current capability may be still be moderate,, the physical degradation of the cell will (probably) make them more prone to leaking.
Frankly, most decent brand name batteries are the same in terms of energy, the physical construction quality varies widely. No batteries I have ever found leak like both energizer and Duracell. I have had more stuff ruined by these things over the course of my life that it simply isn't worth messing with them. Also, I simply have not had the problems of low voltage of NIMH cells.

Hi hooked me watched all but ff the pkging. Points you maybe left out (and you did way more than me so kudos).. Batteries build internal resistance & still recharge to full volts, but once the resistance is too high they suck. You would need to time test them (maybe the top 5 or such). Some require proprietary chargers and that changes the price dynamic if you add the charger cost. I bought a "good" charger that will test (discharge/recharge) and allow selection of charge rate (slower=better). Also it shows the internal resistance as you recharge them each use. Throwing out a LOT of EBL's due to this problem. Does 4 at a time. Subbed & new fan dude. ;)

I have been using anker batteries as well as their chargers ( they make very good socket and car chargers, I have had their same carbon fiber car charger for years without fail) one thing I will say about the price they have a lot of discounts when buying on Amazon. Especially around the holidays that is when I got a bulkpack I believe if you took that into consideration it would be around the same price, or less as the winners of this contest.

  • @viveviveka2651

    Good info. Thanks.
I'm trying to decide on AAAs, either alkalines or NiMH rechargeables. Amazon has a bunch of "off" brands at great prices. Reviews are too often fake to take them overly seriously. Still sorting them out.
Occasionally something is well discounted, at certain quantities. If you buy 100, the price per battery goes way way down, in some cases at least.
Not sure if the lower voltage of the NiMH batteries will or will not be a problem in some of my devices. Haven't tried them yet. Still using alkalines at this point, but running out of them and thinking of switching to NiMH.
How common is it for NiMH batteries to be too low-voltage and problematic? And in what sorts of devices?

One thing not considered in this is that many of the cheaper batteries (at least in my testing) have a high internal resistance and do worse long term as they easily discharge themselves after a few months. This is important if you’re storing batteries for an emergency or for long term use. That being said, for most use cases the cheap batteries like Allmax and Fuji are perfectly fine. Just buy some good name brand long last batteries if you’re storing some for an emergency (ie: inclement weather).

Very good point! The Allmax claims to have a 10 year shelf life, but I'm dubious at best. I'm tempted to stick a couple examples of each type on a shelf for a few years and come back to it. Cool! Now I know other brands like Fuji and All Max that can rival Procell, Duracell, Energizer and Rayovac at a cheaper price point.

You're just calling Allmax first place because of it's power to price ratio. I consider the Fuji to be the best cause I am guessing in your chart they have the most power and are ECO. Am I wrong?

This guy is freaking cool! Towards the end he says he doesn’t like to ask for subscribers and to that i say that it’s ok to self promote, dude, no one will judge you for it! In any case awesome, awesome video. And I don’t know what this guy’s got, but I’d buy the Eiffel Tower if he said the seller is legit. He oozes honesty (that’s an ugly image... he “reeks of”, maybe? Nah even worse!)... What matters is his testing seems thorough, and I’ve never seen someone come across as trustworthy on camera as this guy does...

The price of the energizer 8 pack doesnt make much sense. I could get right now a 48 pack of energizer max for the same 20 bucks.

But did you make sure the bulbs had the exact resistance or put out the same lumen?

he mentioned that he randomized the bulbs to the batteries over many tests.
