I might be a Kia Spectra homer, but they are GREAT cars. I have owned 1 Spectra5 and 3 Spectras. All with the 2.0 engine, all with manual transmission. I have taught all my kids how to drive manual on these cars. I just find them fun to drive, great on gas, and my kids could not text and drive ;) Nice video and good job
Hello, I am ordering a longblock for 2005 kia spectra5. The car (daughters first car) is consuming about 1 quart of oil per week and that is without heavy use. Any special tools required? I'll be doing the swap in a two car garage. It looks like you had the car on the ground, and I'll need to rent a engine hoist. I'd like to rebuild or have transmission rebuilt at same time, but having trouble finding rebuild kit. I'm in western wa.
Hello. I have 2 kias spectra 2009. They're identical even same color. One drives only in reverse ( people keep saying it's the transmission but i haven't really have it checked) and the other one leak oil alot. What do you think I should swap to end up with a perfectly working car? Thanks in advance.
Where in Eastern WA are you located? I'm in the tri-cities. I have a 2008 Kia Sportage 2.0L with a bad engine. If you are close enough would you be interested?
Im definitely interested, but homeschool has priority at the moment so I may not get it done in the time you want. Also its around 3:45 drive to tri cities from where I am. I charge $15 an hour, and could possibly get a used engine for around $250, but probably more if I don't find a good match at the junkyard. I would appreciate the business, but it is a bit hard to arrange. If you are interested to talk further, contact me through my endeavorauto.us contact form. Even if you don't decide to bring your car to me, id like to hear about it!
For most cars, swapping a California for a federal emissions engine would cause problems if you didn't also swap the engine computer and sometimes the engine wire harness, but in this case the engine is exactly the same (as far as I know). The engine I swapped is doing great so far and it was a federal emissions instead of California.

The engine on my '02 Hyundai Elantra looks just like this one. Good job!
Thanks very much for the information. I wanted to know if the engine could be replaced without dropping the kframe or removing the transmission.
I'm going to be doing this exact swap this weekend on an 08 any recommendations on procedure? or was it all as simple as you made it look?

You shouldn't need anything special. Have fun with it!

How’d you disconnect the torque converter? Mine doesn’t have an inspection place on the bottom.
It's been a while, but I believe I accessed the bolts through the starter hole.
any idea how many hours you spent on this?
Took a full day to get the new engine including a 2 hour drive either way. Then I spent a good chunk of 2 days swapping the old one.
I have an 09 spectrea with Vin digit2 . so i can get the Vin digit 1 engine and it should work fine?

@@endeavorautorepair thank you brother
I have an late 04. 2.0 engine She's at 154,000 miles. How many miles where on your engine before swap?
A bit before 170,000
@@endeavorautorepairdid it die? Or.. what was the defining moment?
It was consuming oil pretty fast. (Due to bad piston rings) It could have kept going for a while, but it was about time for rebuild or replace.
Not worth the money and time spent
