    Hi hi! It has been so incredibly cloudy the past few weeks here and so the lighting keeps changing :/ I found a solution for this in future videos so there's that :)

    I really look forward to and often rewarch your knitting podcasts as I'm knitting/crocheting, so I'm really grateful that you've been able to do weekly uploads! Don't stress about the lighting, I barely even noticed there was a problem.
    Also yo you knit SO FAST. Like maybe I'm just slow but I could never make as much progress as quickly on projects as you do, and I have a LOT of knitting time lol. I love love love your Norma sweater. I feel like the design and colours make it both a basic piece that goes with everything and a statement piece that stands out. It's turning out so well!

      Ah thank you so much for the kind words!! It has been really fun discovering more and more cool stuff within knitting and I'm very glad to share that journey with people online :))
      I took off the semester due to stress and so I've had a lot of spare time to knit as well haha. I wasn't ever really that fast, but because of my shoulder issues a while back, I had to change my knitting style to minimise my movements and I guess focusing on that inadvertently made me go faster, so now I get to do more cool projects :)
      I'm really excited for my Norma sweater to be finished. I finished the body yesterday, so one sleeve is left now :). Thanks so much for the compliments! :D

    I really think your process is interesting and unique! It's like solving a puzzle when you try to grade a pattern up or down--I often do this when I can't get gauge or I want to use a yarn that's a completely different weight than what is asked for in pattern. Love that you're discovering such an amazing resource in the library! Looking forward to future videos with lots of pics!

      Ah thank you so much!! I've been having so much more fun with knitting since going rogue hahah. It's great isn't it, being able to have to not be restricted to one single yarn weight when working on a pattern :) Thanks so much for watching!! :D

    Very Pink Knits is my go-to when I need to have something explained. A video of your library trip would be awesome. Microfilm is old school digital storage. Used this a lot in my younger days.

    I really like your Flocon Slipover and Norma sweater. 🧶I would love for you to show some French vintage patterns. The Royal Library microfilm is really cool.

    Regarding your Royal Library Trip.... I wonder if Ireland has something like this!! I must look into it. Sounds exciting 🙂

      Awesome! I just searched a bit and stumbled upon the National Library of Ireland. I couldn't find all that much (probably not using the correct search terms xD), but I did find a bunch of books from the 70s-90s on traditional knitting which looked cool :)

    You know, I also prefer the Japanese SR over the others. It was the first that made sense to me, and it just looks better. well, as long as I resolve them correctly. There are sometimes that I do use the technique as described, when there is a textual element to the pattern. Otherwise, I always switch out to JSR. It is such an excitement for me when I find someone else who also prefers it over GSR 😅😂❤

      Oh yeaah!!! I learned German ones first, but totally agree that they look better. For some reason though I always struggle a bit more with resolving right sides ones in the round, but if I go in there with a crochet hook afterwards it looks fine so I'm still very happy to always use them :)))

    I’m an English Honours graduate so grading and calculus are just about my weakest subjects 😅 I can manage to measure and knit less rows for my five foot two personage but sorting out armholes for my bingo wings arms usually involves sizing up and hoping for the best. I also am a loose knitter and often get some happy accidents, for instance, I’m currently knitting Ozetta’s Seaway sweater and the size one was negative ease and I’d loose the boxy look of it, size two was way too much ease. My gauge on a fabric I like has put me right in the sweet spot between the two knitting size one because I’m a bit under gauge, hurrah! It’s very frustrating to know all the foundation numbers are part of patterns and there to be adapted and tailored but not having a more scientific system I can deploy for accuracy 😂 I’m very envious of your skill set!

    • @SejiFields
      @SejiFields  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Oh I totally feel you on that! I felt drop shoulders to be pretty the most straightforward in terms of adjusting the armholes as it's mostly just knitting the yoke shorter or longer. Raglans however... how to adjust the armhole depth taking into account the increases of the bodies and sleeves confused me a lot, so I spent a number of days just thinking/visualising it in my mind (that's how I also work on difficult mathematics problems :)) and then it came to me: Pythagorean theorem, so that cleared a lot of difficulties for me. I will say though it's quite disappointing to see how little books are out there in English when it comes to grading knitting patterns. I have now had to resort to looking at (old vintage) Japanese drafting books, which aren't the easiest to get through -- hopefully I can learn enough so I can share some advice on adjustments in the future on the channel :)
      Changing gauge is also an excellent way to get those in between sizes, way to go on that strategy!! :D

      @@SejiFields I love how casually you dropped Pythagorean theorem in there while I’m over here giving my phone calculator a workout with some stitch counts that won’t add up 😁
