    I just replaced my front brake pads on my 2018 Honda DCT Tour. I have owned it for about 8 months and ride it pretty hard. It has 10,600 miles on it. On the right side the inside pad was worn badly while the other 3 pads are in good shape just like your video. I replaced all 4 pads. After reading all the comments below I guess that it may not happen again but I think I will bring it to Honda's attention. I saved all 4 pads that I pulled off. I appreciate you putting out this video.

      They do "float" on a pin and in the caliper body. But there should be a spring on them that holds them from rattling.

    I just checked the pads on my 2022 the other day when I was doing a service on it. I have 5k miles and pad wear is good so far. There is just a bit more wear in the inner pads but not anything out of normal. I will keep an eye on them.

    Just changed mine yesterday…right caliper inside pad ZERO pad left. Started hearing grinding and feeling vibration when applying front brakes, did a visual And it was easy to see outside pads, plenty of wear left there. Continued intermittently through the week so I figured I’d pull them. Sho-nuf, GONE! Easy enough to pull and check so that will be part of my regular maintenance plan.

    Every motorcycle and truck I have ever owned has had uneven brake pad wear. Sticky calipers are very tricky to get right. I would look closely at corrosion on the Pistons. You can pop them out with an air gun and clean with steel wool and brake fluid. Never let anything other than brake fluid contact the square cut seal. Use very light coat of soap based hi-temp brake grease on reassembly.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are brand new bikes. Pistons have been made of stainless steel for a long time on motorcycles so they don't corrode.
      The calipers post mount to the fork and don't float.
      This problem isn't maintenance related.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And... No do it yourselves should be so deep into brakes on a new wing that they have to remove the Pistons. 99% will never ever have the system bleed correctly ever again. Linked, ABS brake systems are not for home owners to work on.🎤

    Radially mounted calipers must be centered exactly at the centerline of the brake disc. If they are not, uneven brake wear can be the result. This can be easily checked by a close inspection. I had the same issue with my 2016 Triumph Thruxton R. A smart mechanic at the Triumph dealer realigned the calipers to the brake disc. If there is some wiggle room where the calipers are mounted to the bottom of the fork leg, one can loosen the caliper bolts on each side, firmly squeeze the front brake leaver while retightening the calipers bolts...a two person job. Closely follow the caliper bolt torque specs. My thoughts.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Virtually all radiant mounted calipers are located on precision machined dowels. There is no alignment at all. Not even a tiny amount. They are perfectly aligned.

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How and when you use your brakes isn't related to the problem of the brake pads wearing unevenly on one caliper.

      I considered ONLY REPLACING the BAD-PAD but my safety-conscious-brain just wouldn't go for it. I replaced all four pads both times. Max,
    Yamaha had a similar problem with the REAR Cal on the Royal Star bikes. They found that the Cal was not applying the same amount of pressure to the pads. the Solution was to shim one side of the cal so that the cal was then even on both sides . I dont know if this could be the same problem with the Wing or not but if you check with one of the long time V Star Royal Star forums they can shed more light on this problem. This would also be a Honda problem as I see it, Please keep up the great work.

      I believe this is one that owners need to bring to their dealer's/Honda's attention so that it can be addressed. I think it is worthy of a product update or recall. It is BAD for a caliper to apply more pressure to one side of the pads. This can warp the rotor, and braking efficiency is significantly reduced.
