I saw them perform this live in 76 at a small venue just outside Philly. We were right against the stage in the orchestra pit. Close enough to touch them and I did. Freddie gave me a rose during their encore and called me dahling. Brian May took my hand in his and asked me what song I wanted to hear. I said “Keep Yourself Alive”. I would recommend that song and also my fav Queen song March of the Black Queen, Brighton Rock, Liar, Prophets Song and the beautiful You Take My Breath Away for starters. Really anything from their first 5 albums is great. ✌️♥️🎶
Great choices! These are some of my favorites also. All very much their more intricate music on each of them. March Of The Black Queen is like the best rollercoaster ride I could ever take.
This is my second favorite live performance of this song, first is Odeon, Hammersmith 1975 which you may have already reacted to. I love this song live.
This song is a Brian May composition from their second album, two full LP's before "Bohemian Rhapsody" shot them into the musical stratosphere. Pure genius, these four musicians and songwriters. Great reaction, Shawn! I don't think there is a live version, but one day you should definitely react to "Nevermore"! And, honestly, any track from Queen I, Queen II or Sheer Heart Attack is well worthy of a reaction from you!!
Those first five albums have some beautiful, dramatic and amazing songs on them, and when the band performed them live back then they added that special Queen touch that just made you sit, slack jawed and mesmerized. By 'News Of The World' they were starting to (somewhat) move away from their majestic and atmospheric numbers and into their latter day period of just rocking out, but still with a quirky edge to most of the songs. But those early performances, man . . .
Classic Queen ❤️ I recommend you down loading the “Live At The Rainbow” QUEEN ! You won’t regret it ❤️ Thank you for reacting to the early Queen….. not everyone knows the Classics from their 1st 3 albums. March Of The Black Queen…. Live at the Rainbow should be next 🙏🏻
This is a good song, but..."The March of the Black Queen/Funny How Love Is" is way better. "White Queen" is from Side White, side one, with songs written by all the members of the band. "Black Queen" is from Side Black, side two, written by Freddie. It is the precursor to "Bohemian Rhapsody" a few years later.
Queen II is their peak. Sheer Heart Attack was their, imo, last good lp. In your own time, put on Queen II as one listen. I quit listening to their lps after A Night At The Opera. So much fluff. And the live video recordings are repulsive. Sorry.

Gosh, Freddie Mercury was a fantastic singer & the band was fabulous, so good!👍👏👏👏♥️
A lot of the instrumental section is improvised, so it's different at every concert. 🙂
My favorite version is the Hammersmith '75 version.
