    That's a real nice tractor you have there Jake. Really like that red interior. I admire how you and your dad take such good care of your machinery. I'll bet a dollar that batwing will be sporting new paint by summers end. Be well, see you next post.

    You're wrong about the Series III being the first to have the digital tach/speedo. It was always available on the 2-135/155's and 2-180 since their introduction in 1977. We had a 1980 silver stripe with factory digital tach.

    Workhorse I would argue is a better tractor I would argue. Cummins motor is way better than the herc boat anchor. Love whites. Started out running a 2-70 with a Oliver four bottom sixteen plow when I was 6. Our big tractor at the time was a 2-105 field boss. Last model we had was a 6145. Then went green.

      Read the Nebraska test. That Hercules was unmatched for torque rise for years. The 8.3 matched it 20 years later.

    • @adamkruskama8455
      @adamkruskama8455 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ngrantgrant2183 but blew apart faster than any other motor of its time. If they had paired with cat on something else besides their throw away motors we might have had a better fighting chance. That Hercules was a poor decision by White. Should
      Have remained Oliver ... progress right?

    • @wademills1616
      @wademills1616 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@adamkruskama8455Oliver used the Hercules engine too. The 2050 and 2150’s. I agree they should have kept them green. But the white tractors were basically an Oliver. And Oliver’s 310’s were garbage. I have one 4600 hours and needs rebuilt. Oliver never had a good engine. The cat engines were not any better. Probably worse. They took the main bearings and rods bearings out in less than 4000 hours.

    Nice video Jake, Our 2-180 I think was 1978 or 79, It had around 2300 hours when we bought it in 1983. Cat had replaced the 3208 short block around 1800 hours as part of a recall. She ran about 206hp on the pto. Had 20.8/38s on cast center duals with 3 sets of weights on each rear axel. It was a real horse! Puled a DMI 15 shank chisel or a 28 foot JD disk with a single packer behind it in 3rd high.

    Very sharp tractor. Reminds me a lot of the DA 9150 i use to run. On thr 9150 sometimes when you where shifting that metal selector it kinda would get stuck between gears. Does that tractor do that sometimes. Im talking about the piece that moves at top by shifter. No big deal but it would do it sometimes.

    A lot of the irrigation engines and the military engines were set at 225hp or 250hp. I didn’t know that and I bought an irrigation engine to put in my 2-135 and WOW it sure woke the ole girl up. We put it on a dyno and it maxed out their 235hp dyno and wasn’t even working it hard yet lol

    Jake, I'm looking at a 2-135 with 1000 PTO. Can I just simply change the shaft out to 540 or would it be more in depth?

  • @thomasrouse3826
    @thomasrouse3826 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    We had a 2-135 on the farm when I was growing up. It had the stub axle with clamp on duals. At the time, we ran 6 row implements, so it had the clamp-ons on for spring tillage and then we'd take them off to run a 6 row case 183 cultivator. It would do the "heavy" tillage and we had a JD 4230 that ran the planter. It had the all silver hood with the White emblem. When did they put the red stripe on versus the silver stripe on the hoods?

    JakeI remember the tanks that were the on the older tractors on the farm you could not go all day but had to come home to refuel or had to have a truck with a fuel tank with fuel to refuel from but most of the time came for lunch and refueled then. The bat wing bush hog there were some fields or pastures dad always had to cut down from the weeds or thistle weed. The weed seed would be blown into he field from anywhere and would take over fast had to cut them before the bloomed because each bloomed plant had so many seed and they would have up to 4 to 5 flower on each plant did not take long to take over.

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      roger wilson yep! That's what grandpa would do and we do at plow day refuel at lunch. Now tractors can run 2 full days on one tank. They would work great for pastures we would've had one already if we had pastures

    We've got an old Hardee 15' batwing and the original shaft from the tractor to the splitter gear box had almost 1/2 a turn worth of twist in it. That shaft has since been replaced twice now. Lol

      @jakeziegler599  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @garyfordjr.6541
      @garyfordjr.6541 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We ran it like that for years then one day it finally gave out. It wasn't a cv shaft. I put a heavy duty cv shaft one it but didn't cut it quite short enough and after I went to college at didn't get greased like it should have(I think). Between the grease and it would bottom out in some of our dink holes it gave out in a couple years.

    That's a really smart tractor Jake but I'm a bit surprised how powerful it is to be a 2WD. It's really rare to see any tractor here above 115hp (flywheel) on anything other than 4WD or possibly tracks - that's probably due to older legislation restricting maxwidth on tractors and narrow roads, gateways and buildings!

I dont know what it is about it, but if i realy like that tractor. that is why it sounds so good you have a strait pipe.you know Jake i seen something green in the backround. somebody storing there green stuff there, or did you find it along the road. that is a nice mower sounds like you got a good deal . i never care to much about P.T.O. guards i dont trust the guards either .p.t.o shafts scare the bajebas out of me. my dad was big on being careful around them.one of my uncles got it one luckly he was wearing old pants. but still broke his leg.thank you Jake for subing, that is a honer to have you do that. right now is a real bad time to make a video.but i will when this stuff is over.

    Hey Jake, you haven't forgotten the three-point hitch request! I'm delighted to hear it; should start a bit of discussion :-) The White looks like a great machine. In my day, a 100-HP tractor was considered a behemoth, like the Moby-Dick of tractors, lol. Your White would have been like Godzilla, but nowadays it's just sort of mid-range deal, eh? The mower looks really good too. Good thing you happened to look at the driveshaft. If it failed, I imagine parts flying out at high speed and really hurting someone. Dumb question: do you take the duals off to plant? Or doesn't it matter? This was fun to watch and informative too, so thanks for posting it! Jeff

    • @jakeziegler599
      @jakeziegler599  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      defuse56 thanks for watching jeff! And yes I will try to do the 3pt video in the next few days. Ya 150 hp is smaller mid range around here. Ya I was happy he took the time to wash the grease off so I could see the crack lol. We actually leave them on because the tractor pulls it with less slippage in the loose dirt.

    • @defuse56
      @defuse56 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jake, thanks for the reply--I wondered about dual wheels, especially about soil compaction. Bu after reading what you said, it occurs to me that compaction isn't as big a problem as I usually think. I've really only run a tractor with duals for one season, discing for a guy who owned all John Deeres. The duals worked well for that. Another thing that I wasn't thinking about is the size of modern planters. The biggest planter I ever worked with was just four rows. But with the new giant long toolbars, you would need much more traction I am sure. I really appreciate your patience when I ask such a question. I do have considerable experience, but it was so long ago that alot has changed. Looking forward to the 3-pt video!

      Jake, funny you should mention that. Just last week we were talking in the office about what we would do if we had our academic careers to start over again. I said, "I'd go to Purdue and major in Agriculture." Everyone looked at me in amazement, like I had four heads or something. And you know, when I finished my BA and applied to grad school, I actually got accepted into the program in Literature at Purdue. But then I got into a place that was better-known for the humanities, where a professor I admired was teaching, so I ended up not going to Indiana and the rest is history. As I've often mentioned, I sort of missed my calling, not that I have any right to complain. Life has been good to me, and I am looking forward to trying to do some farming in a small way when I retire. So it's all good. I'm lucky to have you guys on TH-cam though, keeping it all real for me :-)
