Thank you so much for sharing. I grew up on Orange Street above Lexington Avenue. I enjoyed seeing my childhood home and the buildings that once were occupied by Max The Pickleman, United Roofing, the Berkshire Laundry, the Salvation Army, etc. etc. and expecially Womer's Karmel Korn and Ice Cream Shop (the soda shop/teenage hangout on the south west corner of Lexington Avenue and Orange Street ). There were so many high schools in Allbany in the 1960s. We all went to different high schools (Albany High School, Milne High School -part of the Teacher's College, Vincentian Institute, Cardinal McCloskey High School, St. Joseph's High School, Schyler High School, Mercy Secretariel High School). There were other high schools beyond our reach - Albany Academy for Girls, Albany Academy for Boys, St. Agnes, Hebrew Academy, Christian Brothers Academy, Holy Names Academy) but our friendships were in the neighbrhood. I had forgotten until I watched this video that in the 1960s there were at least 13 high schools in Albany. WOW. Now I think only Albany High School and Bishop Maginn High School remain as a traditional high schools. There there are two charter high schools in Albany - Albany Leadership Academy and Green Tech High School. Both CBA and Holy Names Academy moved beyond Albany City proper. The very pricey - Albany Academy for Girls and Albany Academy for Boys remain but as before, these schools are out of reach for the average child. Sadly, in 2022 there are only 4 high schools as options for so many more kids.
So many wonderful childhood memories. Public School #9 on Orange street just below Lexington Avenue is a vacant lot. It was a wonderful neighborhood to grow up in - in the day. Thank you.

I was born and raised in Arbor Hill. I went to grade school at St. Casimir, one street over from Orange. Haven't been home in 25yrs. Doesn't seem to have changed!

The city is so small that you could drive about 2 miles from where you were and you'd be in a corn field
