Wishing him to return for another tour of the states soon and very soon. Your music of Love is needed more than ever now based upon the unpleasant and unrest within our country. Michael was on stage in the Jardin des Tuileries (the magnificent garden next to the Musée du Louvre, where the whole World saw that hot-air balloon right above the fountain every day of the Paris 2024 Games... OK, now you know).
He and his band were supposed to perform for a whole evening of music, during that unique jazz festival right in the very best of the best of the Paris heart.
You can't find a better place to listen to such superb music !
The concert began... all pleasure, joy, fun, music, magic, genius...
Then, without a single warning : rain. Not that misty light one you may appreciate on an evening of jazz, no. It was one of the worst I've ever experienced (and I lived and worked by the ocean, so I know what the words "pour" means).
That one was what sailors call a "grain" in French : a sudden rain fall, packing what should take 6 or 7 hours, drenching for 3 to 4 minutes, and followed by a bright Sun.
Only this time it was not by the the seaside but downtown, and the Sun had set hours before, and the summer seemed like... gone. Forever.
All spectators started to get up and took their chairs to use them as shelters. We all got soaked within minutes, and there was no shelter to help us from that.
Logically, the music stopped... but not because of us, for technical reasons.
Michael and the band remained silent for a while, then he shouted "Sadly, we can not go on for safety reasons. The whole gear is wet despite protections and the crew doing its best. We take risks with electricity and we may have serious troubles in case we try to resume. We are so sorry for having to stop the concert, and we hope you enjoyed it anyways.".
It was, of course, without any microphone and the whole attendance had nothing left to do but listening to him... soaked like sponges !
Strangely, that evening turned into a tropical moment right in the centre of Paris... like Antonio, Jorge, Flora, Vinicius and the likes wanted to greet us with some proper "Waters of Mars". And pay tribute to Michael's love of Brazilian music !
We left the Jardin des Tuileries with a feeling of having lived something unique, only in many ways... music, weather, musicians, rain, spectators, tropical ambiance... everything felt like Brazil that evening !
Only way too short it was, because the whole thing probably lasted for 45 minutes (and perhaps less).
Such a souvenir of Michael, one I'll always keep so deep inside my heart and soul.
Thank you Mister Franks, only you can do that ! ✋️😉

Ah !
Bon , Francks reste mon idole quand même !

What an incredible video many many thanks for uploading. I think Michael Franks is a hugely respected artist. He attracts the very best musicians in the same way as Donald Fagan and these guys are right up there with the best. What a shame Steve Logan passed away at such an early age, IMO he is seriously underrated/unrecognised and the same can be said of Clint De Ganon, absolute monster musicians.

Saw MF a few times and he even posed for a signed polaroid with me after the show at the Universal Ampitheater in LA in the early 90s. A really nice guy. Got a personal postcard from him after the release of Barefoot on the Beach! Down in Brasil and Jardim Botanico prompted me to fly to Rio where I stayed for two months in 85-86! Gostoza! Late in the 90s I was there with a date at Monterey, California when a magical dragonfly appeared above the heads of the audience! Can't wait til his new release in later '24 or maybe '25. And I hope records another live concert cuz the last one in Australia was too long ago.If you do not have his entire collection starting with Previously Unavailable you are missing some great tunes in your library. Mark my words: he will go down as one of the greatest male jazz vocalists of all time and there will be many tributes to him as he has done to Jobim and many others!

Loves Michael Franks smooth Music ever since I hear it in 1973, The Art of Tea. My friend who had introduced me to MF has since passed away.
MF has no controversies surrounding him, lives life like a normal person, no flashes of riches, fancy cars....in fact not much personal infos on him.
I could play Antonio song, Tiger in the Rain and Eggplant amongst my guitar repertoire.

How very special. Of the 20 or so people whose music made such an impact on my life, (Nick Drake, Jethro Tull, XTC, Costello....) Mr. Franks has carried me to and from high and low points in my life, I couldn't have asked for any better. Thank you, MF. - Ken in Hawaii - Aug 2017

I first knew about Michael Franks in 1982, when I was working on my first job in a bar owned by an American guy called John Bosword, and when one of his sons brought a tape (At the time there were only L.Ps and cassettes), I was mesmerized by the music. I couln´t find anything in Colombia in those days, so I waited until I went to live in Switzerland when one of the first things that I got were his albums. Until now when I have all of his music in CDs, those LPs are my biggest treasure.
Thanks for the opportunity of seen him in concert.

I've been listening to MF since 1981, from a late night jazz station on campus. Since then his music, along with it's Latin flavor always take me away to an island paradise.(Like Down in Old Brazil @ 01.08) So It doesn't matter wherever I travel, warm or cold, I always take along some MF to keep my mind right. Thanks for the download.

I discovered him in far 1980: his album the art of tea was sold at a special price. It was my second or third album bought (I was 17). It was a shock to listen at that sophisticaded music, with those complex lyrics (I love eggplant). I would love to see him live but he doesn't tour in Italy (or in France at least)
    Great artist

Before Michel Franks played in Tokyo circa '93 he came to Seoul and I saw him at the Se Jung Culture Center, a world-class acoustic music hall. I think he held some master classes while he was there. Beautiful show, great band, everyone a stand-out performer. I bought tickets across the street in the Kyo Bo Building about a month earlier. I remember thinking how expensive they were, may $80 a pop. Growing up in the 70s concerts were cheap back home, Well, last year I saw Steely Dan i Camden and a ticket was well above $200.
