When you listen to a song in a different language so many times that you can pronounce each word perfectly. The lyrics being there makes it so much easier also.
I remember people complaining how Raya looks like Moana, which honestly makes sense because Pacific Islanders and maritime SEAsians seems to be closely related

This song is on my mind almost continuously. My three-year-old grandson just started watching Moana. We play this song over and over and I love it. Bless people with clarity to know THE WAY & know who they are.
This song is a reminder of how beautiful our world is, that not all the times sufferings and pain are all in this world. But the beauty and the gifts that God put in our world and nature..
When I dance to this song, i can feel the presence of ancestors, not my ancestors but I can feel it, the spirits of someone's ancestors dancing with me, guiding me through life
the translation of the samoan parts: We are voyagers Summoned by the gods Of this mighty ocean to come We take up the good challenge Get ready We understand the ways of the sea We look to the stars and other signs To find our way, to find new lands To make our home (Canoes on the move) Oh! Oh! There is land up ahead A bird in flight to take us there Oh! Oh! This beautiful land The place i was looking for We will make our home
That is especially true for the islands here in Micronesia; we are mostly made up of island atolls. Fanaitai that all our ocean cultures live on forever beyond the sinking of our islands
I was 9 went to see moana in cinemas when it released with my parents and sister. We figured we should just watch a random family friendly movie to treat ourselves, till this day im in love with the movie and im 14 now, turning 15 this year. And was the day I finally figured out pacific islanders. Micronesia, Polynesia, Melanesia. Whole of Pasifika existed. Lovely people, lovely culture and way of life. From Nepal 🇳🇵!!🙏🏾
Hey, I'm chamorro. But Moana is and always will be close to my heart. I remember watching it as a kid and appreciating it's existence. Though that doesn't discredit Lilo and Stitch.
I remember when I was younger I did this song for my school choir and we learnt the non- English part aswell, and now I can sing it with nooooo problem
I still really want the Polynesian Islands to uncover all of their history, where they came from, where they travelled. They were some of the earliest explorers, and we have no idea where they came from. It's sad how quite a few Polynesian people are treated, and how they act too. This idea that they're also a warrior people is ridiculous, like, come on guys. Explorers. Not warriors. Both are tough as nails, but it's not the same story as the Maori. That's why I want them to uncover their history, because it feels, just looking at their culture and traditions, that something is missing in them. Something lost and forgotten. Have also come to realise why all people in NZ, be they white, brown or black, have a love for nature and exploration (Sir Edmund Hilary, anyone?). The Maori think the Europeans assimilated them, but really, take a better look. The culture never disappeared, it's still around, and how many British defected to join the tribes, because their way of life was much more fulfilling? They, along with all people from different backgrounds, helped build the NZ culture we have today: A relaxed, nature loving, bunch of idiots that do the craziest shit for fun, like the mini jet boat swing on the bridge recently. We got our love of nature and exploration from the Maori and Polynesian people. And that's what's missing in them, that passion they once had.

ok everyone seems to root for Lin but I'm rooting for Opetaia Foa'i, the voice of Matai Vasa - that first verse gives me chills every time!
What I wanna know is why Lin agreed to a song in Samoan, and why it sounds like Hamilton from the musical is singing in this.
man, that first line in Tokelauan before the chorus always sends chills down my back - it's my favorite one! (olo olo vaka!)
I can relate that line also sends chills down my spine but it's not my favorite
