In MTB they use brake cleaner to slip on the grips. The brake cleaner will evaporate and the degreased surface will stick very wel on the grips. Maybe it helps.
Good stuff. Don't use a tubing cutter on composite/carbon poles - doing so increases the risk of fraying. Instead, use a hacksaw with a fine-toothed blade and wrap the area you're cutting tightly with masking tape.
I was really surprised how easily my grips came off with hot water. It's good to hear there are other options for people when hot water does not work. Thanks
It forms a tight friction fit. If you find that it keeps moving after it cools and drys you could remove the grips and apply grip glue like you would use on motorcycle grips but I doubt you will need that. Not much torque or twisting motion on ski pole grips.
Boy! it looks too easy to get the handle off. I can't! I have Leki trigger poles. I tried hot water. I even boil the water and dip my poles in it for 15 min. But, I still can't get the handle out. Help please...
so were your wife poles too short or did you use these as just an example. I would hate to see her poles end up being 1/2 inch too long due to Leki bend. I am a PSIA level III ski inst and USSA race coach and pro rep'd for Leki for about 10 yrs.
They were probably a bit long but she didn't like the trigger grip anyway. I doubt that small difference would have had much impact on her skiing. She's a level five skier and only skis five the seven days a year. She does it for me. She's using the smaller poles. Thanks for the concern.
Certainly an option if you are in a drought prone area. I am not so running water for a minute or so won't create any environmental issues. Glad to see the snow pack and the water table in CA returning this year.
Great video! Thorough and great attitude. Enjoyed watching
Thanks a ton. Using the faucet is key. Saves from boiling a pot. Worked great on a pair of newish Scotts.
Great advice. The hot water worked great for removing the grips. Thanks!
Super useful! Thanks!
Thanks! Need to shorten my Leki poles and wasn’t sure how to get grip off.
Thanks that was useful, i need to cut some pole, regarding from Chile 🙌

This worked perfectly - thanks!

So I don´t need any glue to put the grip back on?
I tried hot water - no luck. 5 minutes with a hair dryer and they came pretty easily (Alpina BC Poles)

Some grips have a screw on the end that tightens them against the inside of the pole.
Grazie.

what is the tool you use to cut the poles and where can I get it?

Its a tubing cutter. You can get one at most any home center or hardware store.
Thanks man!
Glad to be a help. I've benefited from so many others who have shared "how to's" so I thought I'd do my own.

How come she doesn't get new poles? LOL
Boil water in a pot , saves a crap load of water which we are running out of.

I'm surprised those grips came off simply using hot water.
I honestly thought I would have to work a lot harder to get them off but they came off easily and are holding after the reinstall.
