This lad was accompanying the melody with his left hand, while singing and harmonising his own voice with his right hand. Imperious

'Loved the video, man! This track is where I first found out about Jacob, and the rest was history. The little keyboard he's playing on top of the piano is actually a harmoniser. He has a custom-built one co-designed by Ben Bloomberg, a PhD student at MIT, which allows the harmonisation to happen live and in real-time. It only further adds to his already-alien sound. :D

Jacobs live performances are hugely engaging, too. There’s something on YT where he played at MIT.
Really love ALL Family Dinner, both albums are incredible. The song with Jayna Brown, I think she was just 9 maybe and the accompanying guest guitarist equally young and impressive. But really every track there is a masterpiece.
    EDIT:
‘GONE UNDER’ Family Dinner 1- Is a JAM
‘AMOUR TES LA’ is like a lil vacay to France
Also the song ‘SING TO THE MOON’ on Family Dinner 2 is INCREDIBLE.

Great song/reaction! (SS is back!). Jacob definitely uses a custom designed harmonizer. That's how he gets such thick/tight voicing in his harmony on ALL of his songs. Also, listen for the 7/4 time signature throughout the song! So cool!

A couple of things to add.
    1. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that this song, and all the grooves therein, is being played in 14/4
    2. Jacob uses a 1 of 1 keyboard he developed with MIT’s media dept. He can choralize his voice (via the mic input seen on the video) to as many keys as he can hold down; they all match the tone and tambre of his voice by design.
    3. That buildup was to a rather expansive key change which everyone nailed… LIVE.
    4. It’s in 14/4 (yes, I said it twice)
I had just learned about Jacob Collier and was absorbing anything I found with him in it on TH-cam and discovered Snarky Puppy as a result of this video. Truly a watershed evening for me.

Jazz-Funk has come such a very long way - this is so sophisticated, yet earthy - although I think it's also paying homage to the era of big bands such as Lionel Hampton. There's a rich variety of musicians in there! While tunes like Take the A Train and Flying Home catalysed and catapulted Jazz musicians into Jump Blues, R'n'B and vanilla Rock'n'Roll, I can't see where this going - I don't have the vision! All I can see is that it is "future music" in the same way the sounds of "Single Ladies" made me feel.

Revisited this video, and I only have one part of the performance that's bugging me. It's the backup singers. Some of them are flat in the part that starts at 2:28. It's understandable though - They might not have enough of Jacob's perfect pitch in their in-ears, and the part is pretty sparse instrumentally, mostly just bass and a few brass stabs here and there.
This is one seriously packed album. Jacob Collier with his genius wrapped with Snarky Puppy is pure gold. And then there's Becca Stevens on one track, and Knower on another. Both of those tracks are pretty insane as well!

I more and more have to be careful with watching footage like this, because they are setting the standard - musically and production wise - so high that it´s hard to worship older "stuff" from outstanding musicians.
This is a prime example... you have EVERYTHING you want + more in just one piece of music and I never saw Cory Henry rockin´ out sooo hard to the groove + they added Jacob to the set!!! He alone is a whole universe and the way he is soloing on piano is Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea and Gil Evans together and then he is embedding his voice with the vocoder or harmonizer + he´s comping it with his left hand... WTF!!!
