  • How will the 7 handicapper get on playing aggressive v smart golf over 3 short par 4,s holes at Chorlton Cum Hardy Golf Club. The simple rules are he can only use his New Mizuno ST-X 10.5 degree driver or his Ping i25 4 iron to Tee off to see which strategy helps him to score better.
Can he hit fairways & greens by playing risk or reward golf?

I really liked this one, and can relate to it. The year before last, I had a small muscle tear in my right forearm. Just about the only time it bothered me was if I tried to use my driver. All summer and into fall I hit either a fairway wood or an iron off the tee. I actually played better. All healed now and back to using the driver, there are still par 4 holes where I prefer an iron or fairway wood off the tee. Thanks for another fun video!

Hi all, happy Easter! I would be glad to see you comparing your driver with a 2 iron or 3 wood off the tee, then compare irons with woods/rescues on par 5 2nd shots. Then compare results without short game/putting, the latter being less comparable... Any, ay thanks for this interesting video, enjoy your day!

  • @shawnmichajluk2044

I like being 100-130 yards away for my approach shot, rather than being 50-90 yards. I know how to hit the former, not the latter. However, I am using a 4-hybrid and a 5-hybrid instead of irons. I find them easier to hit.

Doesn’t matter what you use off the tee I say but it’s more to do with what the difference is in off-shots that a driver can produce (hook, slice) versus what an iron can produce (ditto). Only diff is distance produced.

Before watching, I'm gonna say the controlled iron always wins in these situations... as long as you put it in the right spot to have an easy peasy on the green in two 2nd shot. The driver can wreak havoc and put you too close or too off center from your target where you encounter 2nd shots that you're not used to playing. Hmmm... let's watch now and see what happens.

  • @andyr6200

Loved the video, would have been good to see the strokes gained over these holes for the iron vs the driver, that would have helped to show over a period of time what is the better choice not just on this day, be interested to see if that would change how you play those holes. But I know how much you love those stats. Keep up the great work.

Liam, Adlington Golf Centre near Poynton / Bramhall have got TrackMan free to use in all bays.
Can have a virtual game with your mates even in practice - could be a great video! Know the owners if ya wanna come down?

I try to decide if I can get my tee shot inside 120m (132yards) of the centre of the green, so that I can hit an iron at the green. Using single length irons I know I can hit a full swing from 60-120 m and have a high chance of hitting GIR on a short par 4 hole. If the second shot will be from outside 120m , where I would have to use my 4W, 7 W, 4,5,6 hybrids for shot two, then Unless there are no dangers with using Driver to hit the fairway , then Driver it might be. For safety I would consider a strategy to lay up to 60 m out, my best club for hitting the green. I.e . 7w off the tee, then work out what will get me to 60 m out

My bet is iron will come out on top. Especially when the course dries out a bit more. Will watch now 😀

I would just like to think I could play to par. I need serious help with my game to help with consistency in my ball striking. At the minute I just don’t know which way the ball is going to go.

Nice comparison, most would use driver. However there's more than one way to skin a cat. Great video, thanks.
