The interviewer was a humble child at heart. Artists love talking to these kinds of people because they have the ears to listen and perceive the magic these artists bring to the table. They're not trying to look cool, smart and know it all, they genuinely place themselves in a position of reception.
What a cool guy is Herbie Hancock. I would like to have more stories of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Sonny Rollins, while they are still live.
How do I find people this genuine and compassionate, more importantly how do I become more like that? Definitely inspiring and something to aspire for.
The guy is way cool ... Everything from him, his playin, everything he says transpires harmony, enjoyment , peace and humility ... He is a true role model, not only a genius musician ... May he live a very very long life.
You can tell the interviewer is a fan. You can see the glee on his face, and how enthused he was with all of the little tidbits of information he was learning. Yet he was still respectful, polite, engaging, and kept the wheel greased. Love it.
I think Rhapsody in Blue might be the greatest song of the 20th century. It speaks the very soul of America. Gershwin's recounting of the writing process suggests a pure channeling from a higher place. "It was on the train, with its steely rhythms, its rattle-ty bang, that is so often so stimulating to a composer - I frequently hear music in the very heart of the noise.... And there I suddenly heard, and even saw on paper - the complete construction of the Rhapsody, from beginning to end. No new themes came to me, but I worked on the thematic material already in my mind and tried to conceive the composition as a whole. I heard it as a sort of musical kaleidoscope of America, of our vast melting pot, of our unduplicated national pep, of our metropolitan madness. By the time I reached Boston I had a definite plot of the piece, as distinguished from its actual substance." IMHO you can hear this, there is no mistaking it.
a cut in the middle of his story about the writing of maiden voyage???? He was basically mid sentence! This is the ADD generation so much so that even the media just assumes we get bored after 20 seconds mid sentence.
All the Goodness God has been and done to this Beloved Icon, and he gives a false god the praise, honor, and glory! It’s not gonna end well Herbie, give the True and Living God the honor, praise, and glory that’s due Him while there is still time our Beloved Maestro...😳 There is a Heaven and a hell...😳

Your right...i was waiting for the story to complete itself and then...whaaat happened?!.someone else was the editor.
What song did his piano teacher show him?
RHAPSODY IN BLOOOOOOO
what is the name of the song he was playing with the orchestra?
That would be Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue."
Is that a portrait of TE Lawrence on the wall to his left?
Herbie Hancock e Wayne Shorter venivano in Italia Umbria Jazz Festival
He looks so young
I would like to sit beside him and watch him play all day long
Mr, Chord Substitution man. He is great as a sideman also.
Yes indeed. Was just listening to "Cancellation," a track with Jackie Mclean and Charles Tolliver, and Herbie was so very responsive to their playing.
