- Trumpeter Sean Jones sits down with Peter Martin to give us an inside look at the 3 principles he learned from being on the road with the incomparable Herbie Hancock.

Rest in Peace the irreplaceable Wayne Shorter. Herbie and Wayne shared a truly inspired musical connection, it’s hard to speak of them separately when discussing their bodies of work and what made both of them special. Open Studio should dedicate a tribute to him.
From what I understand, those principles are things that Herbie learned from playing with Miles. Listening to Sean talking about being in Herbie's group sounds just like Herbie talking about first being in Miles's group! Awesome to see Herbie pass it down to people he plays with and now Sean passing it on to people he plays with.
Ugh. Wonderful interview. I would love to see the OpenStudio staff interviewing Herbie and Wayne in the same room. Love the jam at the end.
I saw Herbie and Wayne together in 2016 in Austin. They played for 2 and a half hours. Just the two of them. I have no idea what they played it was like music from another planet, songs and improvs and I don’t know what. I’ve never heard music like what they did that night before or since. My mind is still blown
@OpenStudioJazz would love to have a video of peter explaining how he approaches dolphin dance, maybe along with adam's own personal input!
so many feelings about these two beautiful souls. I sure hope we have Herbie a good while longer...Lord knows we need him....
40 seconds in and I'm already crying
Wayne and Herbie are the true living legends.
Beautiful encapsulation. I have many favorites but Herbie's been my favorirte for more total elapsed seconds of my life than any other musician or group.
Sean Jones is such an incredible teacher. Love this video!
I love hearing stories about Herbie. Those stories hit their points hard & are gonna stick with me. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. Just saw Sean Jones w/ Emmet Cohen playing one of the greatest versions of 'I Fall In Love To Easily' I've ever heard. Great player. And Herbie Hancock is a timeless artist/composer/instrumentalist.

That last minute omg, really beautiful. Excuse my ignorance, was that an improv? or a tune? Thanks for all those insights maestros.

Wish there was a way that I could hook into Jazz, just too far from my abilities. Someday. Great concepts to build with though.
