@@shanellmehmet321 Depends on how close and the lamp type. I have the smaller lamp cases and it started to melt it over time, but setting them at a angle or raising them with some PVC worked fine to prevent melting.
Did you cut away a small amount of the egg crate plastic frame for the LED light to slide into Sheldon's basking area? The basking area looks amazing, I am definitely going to do this for my turtle, Newt!

the 55 has a TopFin Silenstream 75 hang on the back filter. if you’re refereing to the UVB bulb on the turtle tank, yes it is safe to be around. cleaning all 6 of my tanks takes like 2-3 hours, & i do it like every 2 weeks. i do water changes every week which takes like 30 min

I got my turtles the Thrive Basking Loft from Petsmart and it's been an entire week and they still don't go up there to bask. I lure them up there with turtle food and they go up there to eat, but they won't bask! They immediately leave as soon as they see me coming.
Dude your turtle is so similar to my painted. Everytime she sees me! I try to catch her doing her own thing as well. The second she sees me or hears me she pops her head up like that like human is that you!?!?!?!??? Thank god I am starving human!

If those are Rosy Minnows in your sliders tank, thats no bueno.......Not good for turtles. Some chemical. Also, he will eventually eat ALL those fish, especially tiny fish like that. You need bigger fish that the RES cannot eat. And yes, its OK to do a live fish feeding once a month... Having all those fish in there is asking for an overfed, unhealthy turtle.. Goodluck

Any one. I just got a baby yellow bellied turtle couple of days ago. I made basking area same as this video. My turtle does not want to bask. Am I doing something wrong? All the temperatures water and lamp is how it suppose to be. My turtle gets on the ramp but never goes to the basking area, since I got the turtle, all that he does is swim. Help please!
Sheldon is going to eat those fish 😳.. maybe not now and maybe not tomorrow. But eventually... even if you feed him everyday. I have two orange ear sliders and they didn't eat the fish when they were younger but now one of them is about 8in long and the other one is about 5in long.. i think they're almost mature. 🤔 but anyways they started eating my fish so now they don't get fish in their tank lol its a 60 gallon tank for both of them. Lol

I think sheldon may be a girl but i cant really tell from the video. Also you may want to put a piece of drift wood or a tall rock in the tank that he can hold onto so he doesn't get too tired from swimming. The turtle's pretty big now so it may not be problem for it.
this is the perfect design for my tank. I recently got a turtle (Shortneck Murray River - Australian Turtle) then after 2 weeks decided she needed a few friends, so two more. They will LOVE this basking area when I finally have all the parts arrive from eBay. thank you!!!!
Sheldon is a very friendly turtle. I have had my turtle a little bit over a year as well and if she is on her basking dock I can literally stretch my arms across the other side of the room and I hear her splashing in the water from running. I got up in the middle of the night to run to the rest room and she scared the hell out of me because she jumped in the water so hard.
This is a great idea. I've been trying to find a way to make a basking area like this one that's outside of the tank but i own 2 cats and they like hanging out around the tank amd stuff. I wanna build something like this but the lid of my tank is metal so idk how to manage to make a platform like this one but also cover the remaining space so the cats won't try to get in the tank. (I'm not sure if I'm making sense, English is not my first language so sorry). Do you have any recommendations on how I can have or make a platform like this and to also keep it secure so no cats can get in in any sort of way? 😅

Loved your video and your set up, much better than the one we did (we used a frame with 1/2" PVC which was totally unnecessary.) Re-doing it now to just use the egg crate stuff. I want to put my aquarium light under the basking platform instead of inside it, can I do it? If you don't know, it's ok. Loved the extra light it gave your aquarium. We have two red eared sliders both about 6-7 years old, both male. They love their 75 gallon tank and right now the set up is only half water and the platform is just above the water line but we are changing to fully filling the aquarium so they have more swimming space and therefore need the above water line basking station. These turtles might be more food motivated than my yellow lab, Cody!!

i just looked it up, it says it isnt poisonous but it will cause stinging/burning if eaten. so i wouldnt put it in your tank if i were you
