IMO, Triumph would have been better off putting their own OHC head design onto the Rover V8.

Tony, the upper head ‘bolts’ you refer to are, in fact, studs. And the heads don’t get corroded to the blocks - what tends to happen is the studs get corroded/gunged into the heads, preventing either the studs from being removed, or the heads being slid up the studs.
The last one I did I had to use three bottle jacks !

What type of grease / anti seize would you use on the stud shafts ?

@@debneilwoodburn5798 Good question and I don’t think there’s any great consensus on this.
I’d have said ceramic grease, however I used that on an engine a while ago but then, about six months later, had to pull the heads for another reason. Although the studs came out easily, I was surprised at how the new studs had deteriorated. Nevertheless, if I was doing the job again I think I’d go with ceramic grease, but others will have different ideas.

Tony, now that the engine is outside the car, this would be a good chance to link the rhs cylinder bank with the cooling system - via the water transfer housing, which is still blanked off.

I think an important update to any TV8 engine is delete the standard water pump, and use an external one thats mounted lower down, i personally use the davies craig electric water pump. (which also controls the thermo fan) theres a lot of things to dislike one the Stag V8 but i think the Standard water pump is top of the list.

Tony, where would someone in the USA go to find a rebuilt Stag 3.0 V8? Maybe someone who can ship one here or rebuild it here stateside. Any idea on costs associated with this?

Good video, nice to see all around the engine on the stand. I'm not sure if they only used that type of cooling fan on an engine with a automatic gearbox, as that is what Fords did. Good luck, have fun and keep safe

Tony, worth pointing out the block water drain plugs each side of the block while they are easy to see.

Also be interested to see where the different cylinders on the V8, if they run down each bank like 2 x 4 cyl Dolomite / TR7 blocks one afrer another.

Tony wondering what range you have or approx MPG from your 3 litre v8? I have recently bought a 1977 3 litre v8 and took on a run and only managed 120 miles on full tank. I am sure that this there must be a problem. Engine runs smooth and has had recent replacement fuel tank

these aluminium heads, can't they make them out of steel to stop the ROT. these days as manufacturing and pressing have got better, surely someone must be able to do something different better

Hi there Stag Owners Club Tooling Fund Ltd (the Club business who try and recreate parts) tried only three or four years ago, however the costs of tooling and manufacturing was so prohibitive it was decided they would be too expensive for owners to want to buy. socspares.co.uk/store/?fbclid=IwAR2HsAs3Zci-Lc_8EKDvjW923omviKXKBoy5JVRbY86FpnZlOSoqWgUn9rQ All the best TR T

@@ArryTheStag Fair comment, I understand the expense thing, yet people spend enough sorting things out, so why go a bit further and get steel heads. Anyway thanks very much for reply
