    Question? Do you think he is expressive?

    • @npe1
      @npe1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes of course he is. It really ticks me off when people talk about artistry or being expressive. He has a lovely clean, classical and flowing style as he moves over the ice. Any fool can go on the ice and strike a dramatic pose, wave their arms about or try to be 'expressive' and call it artistry. For me, if they don't have a lovely, smooth and flowing style then their poses and arm movements mean nothing. If they don't point their toes on their free leg when landing a jump or exiting a spin then their so-called interpretation means nothing. His choreo is really good - it's even better on his SP to Billie-Jean.

    • @trashcant69
      @trashcant69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The artistry and expression is there, he just has a lot of room to improve. He's still quite young, so I don't really see an issue with it. Most skaters at his age have underdeveloped artistry, except some lucky few. Alena Kostornaia would come to mind as an example, she had exceptional artistic abilities for her age.

    He's headed to a more hands on experience from Rafael when he really needs Frank Carrol. I wish his team would experiment with maybe Pasquale for the short and Jeffrey Buttle/Lori Nichol for the free skate but i know it will be in suit with what Nathan Chen did, with his forgettable choreography. Ilia has skating skills but his choreography is... well... forgetful.He has solid jump technique akin to another Ilia from the past. The skating is... well, let's wait and see

      Hopefully artistry will come with age and experience. He was in a class of his own at Junior Worlds. He is utterly amazing. I don't think I've ever seen such a young skater with such mind-blowing potential. He has it all - great jumps, great spins, great footwork, great style and flow and yes he has lovely artistry. Let's remember artistry is not about fancy arm movements but includes everything - style and flow over the ice, for me, makes up the majority of artistry as any fool can go out there and wave their arms about or strike a dramatic pose. I've seen videos of this young man elsewhere on the internet where he was doing some amazing combos - 4T/4T, 4T/4Lo, 3lutz/4T, 3lutz/4Lo. I'm quite sure he will be the first skater to land a quad/quad combo in competition and who knows, maybe this young man will the first quad axel cleanly.

      As amazing as a 4-4 is, its not good to put it in the long program and actually reduces the total base value. In a combination, only the higher scoring jump of the two receives goe bonus, so the second quad in a combo doesnt actually earn goe. The only benefit of doing a combo is to be able to repeat a jump element.
      The only way for 4-4 to make sense is if they allow it in the short program.
      Btw, ilia has confirmed this in an interview... he will be attempting 7! Quads in the free program within the season.

    I'm so happy he won here after the fall at the senior world championships. He looked so devastated there! Glad he has a happy moment in his career now.
    Genuine question here though: Can anyone tell me where the overlap between being allowed to do both junior and senior competitions ends? Is it an age thing or is a skater allowed to finish their year on the junior circuit if they move to the senior level in the middle of it? I'm curious why he was doing both.

    • @lafox21
      @lafox21 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @cyrra8865
      @cyrra8865 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't know exactly how it works but Ilia technically never "moved up" to seniors. He is old enough to participate in seniors but for whatever reason, they decided to continue competing on the junior level (mainly done to get some more international experience and build up reputation, among other reasons). A skater is able to compete at both senior and junior events if they're old enough, so long as they don't formally switch to being a senior. Federations that don't have a lot of skaters to pick from normally do this.
