I agree. He used to be technically brilliant, but artistically blah at best. I found him a bit obnoxious and arrogant. He has definitely matured, and his artistic expression has matured along with him. He will be a force to reckon with at the next Olympics for sure.

Been watching it for three decades and no one has seen anything like him. His parents are former Olympic skaters and they raised and trained him. What he has done has been likened to the moon landing in figure skating. He also has that “it” factor.
I saw that Hope video and then this one came on. .. oh my ... too much of a good thing, indeed. I am so glad to have been able to see this. There is beauty in the world, still .
It looks like a Stephane Lambiel choreo…Gjon’s Tears is the perfect singer to bring much needed emotion to Ilia’s performance and I have to say this is the best I’ve seen him skate! Bravo, Ilia for continuing to up the sport by improving your ARTISTRY as well as your incredible athleticism.
I’m loving the little nuances blossoming in his performances. And I’m amazed how calm he enters a jump, especially the entry of the axel in this performance. His jumps are so smooth and solid in and out now and don’t distract from the flow of the performance. His confidence in them is transferred to the spectator. Little worry he will falter from the moment he sets up the jump. I think this performance is even better than worlds as far as artistry.

His artistry is improving so dramatically - this is gorgeous. Jumps are all well and good but I could watch that back outside edge at 0:32 and the bracket at 0:56 all day.
Omg right! Every time I see him doing backflips or skateboarding or something similar I’m like please stop doing anything that could potentially injury you. We need to see you continue skating 😂
@@ers0135 the cartwheel with one hand and the two flips he does at around the 2:34 mark. They aren’t really figure skating moves but done for artistry, but Ilia is known to push the limits technically in his programs. He also does this cartwheel with NO hands in some of his competition programs.

He is the only man to do one of his quads that he did for the last world competition recently. His parents were olympic skaters. His dad is with him coaching when he performs, but his mom can't handle being there. ❤ watching him!
This young man is a pleasure to watch skate. His ability to jump as clean and light shows art. All his jumps are clean. His skates draw form onto the ice like a painter that has each stroke planned. His skating is manly but gentle. I am looking forward to seeing much more of this young man. ♥🎯✝

"Tout l'univers" was the Swiss entry performed by Gjon's Tears in 2021. This artist and his song have a very special history. That's why maybe Ilia felt deeply connected to these meaningful lyrics.

It is great to see Ilia experimenting with various movements in field outside of his trademark Raspberry Twist. The backwards knee slide was nice, I loved the roundoff, though I recognize it is quite illegal, and that Ina Bauer was gorgeous. The summer programs are always a great place to experiment, and I can't wait to see what Ilia brings from with him to next season
Softer music requires softer arm movements; the jumps, cartwheel and Raspberry Twist are dynamic, very Ilia's; the Ina Bauer glide across the ice is quite dramatic. I also enjoy the little detail such as spinning on one heel. Beautiful skate, Ilia! Love it.
This is probably a weird old skater wish but I would LOVE to see Ilia do a simple and HUGE delayed Axel... like Robin Cousins use to do. Just a single axel....

The quad axel. Only two other people have even attempted it. He’s the only skater that has ever landed it in competition and he hits it all the time.
