    In todays video I’m going over the front brake setup on my 1955 Chevy! I restore the factory track width my narrowing each side up 7/8” or 1-3/4” overall! Easy to do with gm replacement parts!

    Only problem I had was the hole in the rotor had to be machined slightly to fit the 62 Impala hub. I didn’t have the machine the outside of the hub. Yes 79-80 trans am rear rotors.

      Yes some of those will have to be machined slightly as well. Just depends on the year hub and brand of rotor!

    Niiiice car. I am getting ready to do mine, with 2 inch dropped spindles. I will have to see if the kit I am getting from Tom's Classic keeps the original track. Also, wondering if you have the 55 rear end under the car. I want to put wider tires on mine, and yours look great. Good explanation of the conversion process.

      Thanks! I would definitely check because there is only one kit on the market that I’m aware of that keeps the factory track width. I do still currently have a factory 60” width stock rear end. 15x8 with a 4.5” back space with a 255/70/15. It would fit a 275/60/15 but would be a little tight. I used to run a 18x9 on the rear with a 275/35/18.

    I used bracket kit from mgchevy. With his brackets you can use full size D-52 calipers which I did. Got rid of the metric 80’s smaller calipers.

      Basically the same brackets in all the “cheap” kits

    That car looks good. Just struck a deal for a “partially restored” 1955 Nomad. Sitting in the empty shell of the car are new upper/lower control arms, drop spindles disc brakes and power brake booster. After seeing this video I’m going to have to look that pile over carefully to see if this combination of parts increase track width. Chassis is complete unrestored condition with drum brakes all around, factory A-arms, etc.

      I love a Nomad!! The control arms will be fine but definitely look at the spindle/brake combo. Cpp is the only company I know that offers a zero offset drop spindle brake setup. I’ve used it on several customer cars and really like it!

    Great video! I know you said you're running 225/70R15 on the front, but what are you running on the rear? Is the rear-end stock?

      Stock rear end for now with leafs in stock location. Does have 2” drop blocks. Rear is 255/70/15 on a 15x8

    Get cheap upgrade i didn't know. Thanks for sharing. I installed a 1975 trans am rear end in mine. Think it was less than the original one plus posi too.

    Are the caliper mounts different between the g body and a body ? Thanks I like the set up !

    • @mccartyspeedandfab
      @mccartyspeedandfab  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are very similar calipers but I’ve never compared the mounting holes to see how close they were! Thanks!

    Beautiful 55! I have the same problem being that my wheels stick out too for for My taste. Do you know of any tricks that would work on a mid fiftys pickup axle with a speedway disk brakes kit?

      @mccartyspeedandfab  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Unfortunately with those I really don’t know of anyway to reduce the track width!

      @mccartyspeedandfab thanks anyway. I'll probably try wheels with more back space.

      Don’t have a parts list other than what I talk about in the video. Pretty simple stuff to locate.
