    Insurance doesn't cover building maintenance, strata owners have to shoulder the collective costs to keep their buildings in good repair, which usually comes out of the contingency fund and is voted on by the owners (windows, elevators, electrical, plumbing, roofs, etc). Insurance covers only sudden and accidental perils, for instance: burst pipes. But yeah, there is a condo insurance crisis, nonetheless. You can get more info here about insurance and condo ownership in Vancouver/BC if you need it: www.choa.bc.ca/.

    Excellent episode. I had the same list of items you mentioned ..... in 1988. So I saved up for two years, bought a one-way ticket to Asia and I have been here since with no plans of moving back. I moved because of the high taxes and limited job prospects based on my degree as I noticed people were already struggling back then. Stuff like my 55 year old professor in college having a second job as dishwasher so he can have enough money for retirement. The turning point was at a party in a basement suite. It was in November and as I was saying goodbye to the host just outside the front door, one of the tenants yelled "Close the door, you're heating the World!!!!". That's when I knew I had to move. What I did is not suited for everyone but for those that can't seem to get ahead, there's other cities or countries with possibly better prospects out there. Vancouver is great but it was just not for me. Thanks for the video.

    • @HarmonieV
      @HarmonieV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I get what you're saying. Also I agree & love spending time in Asia. I was hoping to go back before the world shut down, but I certainly miss it. That said, there's a lot of places to live globally & in majority of them your dollar will go a lot farther.

    If you plan on moving here for the long haul have a plan to bank 120k plus or else you'll just be pissing your life away.
    Plus the winters are depressing if you need sun, and although it doesn't snow it's not comfortable in the winter think 5 degrees and rain lots of rain it's not pouring but it's always wet during the winter. Ranked one of the loneliest cities. It's so damn beautiful though during spring and summer.

    Whaaaat , Vancouver is not expensive, If you have money it’s not at all, ok it’s just not. YOU BRING MONEY, simple! That’s why B.C. Stands for Bring Cash ! East Van is a charming inexpensive place to live, They even offer free camping in the Parks. How great is that ! You can save so much money living there ! The life style of Freedom is Amazing! The Government will even give you FREE drugs to help support the life you want live. By the way, You don’t have to own a Condo to live in Vancouver thats for sure. Although If you wanted too you could get a great deal on a fixer upper condo. You might want to have just a few bucks though. Just have like 50 Grand or so on the side to pay for a new Balcony or building envelope failure/replacement to keep the rain out, No big deal, it’s normal if you live in a condo to a few extra expenses anyway, Right ! Even though your getting a great a Condo the. Maintenance could cost 700 or 1000 but your still getting all those services included. Like getting your mail delivered to your mailbox and window washing the lobby. I’m sure they just invest the rest into your real estate investment where you live. It’s great deal ! Vancouver is great don’t be put off coming here ! Cheers!

    I think this I quite precise. When I recently moved to vancouver around a year ago, some people I met at work thought I was crazy living in dt, but actually their flats are not really cheap and they live so far, outside vancouver, in places such as new west / Surrey. I've found apts in the West end for as cheap as 1200. Mostly old buildings, but it depends on what kind of lifestyle you are looking for, just living in Van or living with luxury in Van.

    • @HarmonieV
      @HarmonieV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      exactly, plus if you can eliminate the daily commute by living DT, it saves you so many hours of time over the years. I mean, most people work from home right now, but still a nice perk

I also heard about horror stories at many hospitals (and yes, I have worked in Africa and to be honest, Africans hospitals are way more functional than the ones in Canada in terms of human aspect… there they care, Canadians do not give a shit about anyone!!! I am saying this as a Belgian)! I have some African colleagues at work here and 80 percent of them either want to go back to Africa or move to Europe as soon as they get enough experience in canada)!
