The relationship had been going 2 years prior to moving in and OP's partner apparently moved in regardless of having a strong distaste for cats. According to OP "She picked him up and put him outside to wander off". I also found a comment from OP saying "I've made it clear to her not to let him out" in response to a comment asking if he had made sure she was aware of the situation with the cat prior. I think this is clearly deliberate (going by OP's side of the story only ). Whether the truth has been stretched is up to debate.
The cat dude was right all along. You don't get to move in with someone and decide to throw their belongings out willy nilly. Even less so a pet, no matter how much you might dislike said pet. He was nice to give her a whole month, personally she'd have been out on the same day, we'd figure out how to get all of her stuff out of my place during the next few days.

Most cats that are kept indoors try to escape. And if they do, they love it and will go and explore. So I highly doubt the cat was forcibly removed from the house, and then somehow got lost. The cat was probably having the time of it's life murdering 5000 insects. If it's happened the way OP said I'd be surprised, but in the very low chance it actually did, then yeah it's a bad take. Depending on where you live you can't keep outdoor cats safely(especially if there are many wild cats in the area who will kill them or often give them fatal communicable diseases) 2. If the partner decides unilaterally to dispose of your valued property let alone a pet(which has a lot of emotional attachments) and doesn't talk to you about it and doesnt feel bad about it when you get upset the relationship is doomed anyway because the communication is clearly bad, they don't care about what you value, they don't respect you at all, and there's likely no mutual sense of fairness across the relationship. 3. If the living situation is predicated on the relationship and potentially if the poster is only one on the lease and may be the only one paying the rent then it's fair to end the living situation at the relationships end 4. If she would truly be homeless(and this isn't just a hyperbolic claim made in an argument ) then it would be reasonable to give a timeline to move out BUT in most cases there are some types of options of friends and family that people can stay with even if it will suck.

Family fights are always ugly. All the skeletons come out. I remember my sister came around to help my partner do her hair for a family photo. I told her not to park in the drive-way as it would block my car in. Well, turns out they needed more hair products, and pressured me to go get them. I didn't want to, but caved to the pressure. Backed out the car in a huff, right into my sister's car who had parked on the driveway despite what I had told her. After a showdown over who was to blame for this, we finally got to the family photo shoot. I was still sore about it, and when the photographer asked someone to straddle a prop there for the photo, I said it should be my sister, as she has experience straddling as the town two-wheeler. We got into a tussle, with the photographer screaming we had to stop fighting for the shoot. Moments later we had a family photo taken with us all looking happy and getting along, only to get back into the tussle moments after that. Every time I see that photo, I remember the incident. Even I admit I was the a-hole :)

Abuse is abuse, it's not subjective. Keeping a domesticated animal that has all of its needs and wants met inside is not abuse. She doesn't need to dissect the cat with her own two hands to be considered a shitty excuse for a person. Most cats that are kept indoors try to escape. And if they do, they love it and will go and explore. So I highly doubt the cat was forcibly removed from the house, and then somehow got lost. Depending on where you live you can't keep outdoor cats safely(especially if there are many wild cats in the area who will kill them or often give them fatal communicable diseases) 2. If the partner decides unilaterally to dispose of your valued property let alone a pet(which has a lot of emotional attachments) and doesn't talk to you about it and doesnt feel bad about it when you get upset the relationship is doomed anyway because the communication is clearly bad, they don't care about what you value, they don't respect you at all, and there's likely no mutual sense of fairness across the relationship. 3. If the living situation is predicated on the relationship and potentially if the poster is only one on the lease and may be the only one paying the rent then it's fair to end the living situation at the relationships end 4. If she would truly be homeless(and this isn't just a hyperbolic claim made in an argument ) then it would be reasonable to give a timeline to move out BUT in most cases there are some types of options of friends and family that people can stay with even if it will suck.

Family fights are always ugly. All the skeletons come out. I remember my sister came around to help my partner do her hair for a family photo. I told her not to park in the drive-way as it would block my car in. Well, turns out they needed more hair products, and pressured me to go get them. I didn't want to, but caved to the pressure. Backed out the car in a huff, right into my sister's car who had parked on the driveway despite what I had told her. After a showdown over who was to blame for this, we finally got to the family photo shoot. I was still sore about it, and when the photographer asked someone to straddle a prop there for the photo, I said it should be my sister, as she has experience straddling as the town two-wheeler. We got into a tussle, with the photographer screaming we had to stop fighting for the shoot. Moments later we had a family photo taken with us all looking happy and getting along, only to get back into the tussle moments after that. Every time I see that photo, I remember the incident. Even I admit I was the a-hole :)

Animal abuse isn't subjective at all. Some abuse may be worse than other abuse, but that doesn't make it subjective. Different people will have different perspectives on abuse (e.g. Chinese farm children taught to throw kittens with snapped spines back and forth as a ball for fun until they die), but that only makes the perspective subjective, not the abuse.
Abuse is abuse, it's not subjective.
Keeping a domesticated animal that has all of its needs and wants met inside is not abuse. Kicking such an animal outside with no way to fend for itself most certainly is.
If morality is a spectrum, then performing such an action is definitely deep immoral side of that spectrum. She doesn't need to dissect the cat with her own two hands to be considered a shitty excuse for a person. Kicking the cat out to starve or get run over at night by a car is right next to that spot on the spectrum.

abuse can absolutely be subjective to the individual too, plenty of "indoor" cats in australia have escaped and gone feral, living a more natural existence, arguably more fulfilling for a cat. Some just die or get maimed from the same stimuli that others overcome, learn and grow from.
