Okay. This is going to be a long one, you ready? In the Journey to the West Story, the Black Bear demon was friends with Elder Jinchi (a boss you totally missed, btw). When Wukong and his master San-Zang passed by, Elder Jinchi was obsessed with San-Zang's kasaya (a priceless "blanket", as you called it...). Together with Jinchi's two disciples (the fire blade wolf, and fan-wielding snake) they conspired to set Guanyin Temple on fire and tried to burn Wukong and San-Zang to death. Of course, it didn't work. And Elder Jinchi was so ashamed of his action, he hung himself. But Jinchi's obsession with the kasaya made his spirit unable to move on to the next world, so he became the "Big Head Baby" (the one you fought was just a remnant, you missed the REAL Jinchi Boss fight). The Black Bear demon was tamed and taken away by Guanyin Buddha. This story happens AFTER Journey to the West, the Black Bear Demon escaped Guanyin's watch, and somehow got his paws on Wukong's relic. Now, just to clarify, when they say "Great Sage", it refers to Wukong, because he was once called "Great Sage Equal To Heaven". Also, if you are confused, try to read the codex in the game Edit: thank you so much for all the love! So there is Sun Wukong and then there is the Black Myth Wukong. Sun Wukong is the incarnation of Wukong before Black Myth Wukong (Sun Wukong is the one you play as at the start of the game vs all the big dudes, he died on impact and reincarnated into you). In this game you are the Black Myth, and it takes you on his journey through earning the title of Wukong again and beyond, following his myth. I got really into Wukong lore a while ago, and he has reincarnated many many times. What happened in the opening has happened on a few occasions. The reason is because one of his previous incarnations ate all of the gods peaches of immortality, all of them. So every time he dies he just reincarnates, and has to earn his memories and title back. Im not gonna go too deep into the myth lore though because it might spoil the game.
I doubt the protag is a reincarnation of Sun Wukong. The Monkey King was immortal and Buddha wasn't even able to 'kill' him. He was sealed and the game takes places after Sun Wukong made his Journey to the West with Tang Sanzang. The relics are what Sun Wukong left behind afterwards.
Wu Kong never reincatnate before this. the punishment bestowed upon him for all of his misdeeds like eating the peaches, drinking the celestial wines, only resulted on him became stronger. Wu Kong has immortality x7 + budhahood. He literally can't die and only can be sealed or in this game, broken into six relics.
You expect Afro to use deductions or simply think before acting. You must not understand how mentally challenged this man truly is. I wish I could speak to him personally to express my disdain for his treatment of fans. You all deserve more than a mentally challenged adult who doesn’t know how to read.
All TH-camrs do this same thing idk why, they skip over shit they need but then read stuff they don’t, they’re also blind asf and don’t use common sense ever bro 😭
Short story: Black Myth Wukong takes place after Journey to the West. The opening cutscene is basically what happens after Wukong finishes his journey and is being attacked by the Heavenly Court. The current version you are playing is a monkey who comes after the opening cutscene, far into the future.
I would highly recommend reading the journal entries of each enemy type, specifically the one about the black hill guardian, as it unexpectedly provides a lot of context to what’s happening and more lore into the characters. I hate reading, but man is it worth it to actually know the story and learn more cool background plot lines
You’re playing as Wukong’s descendant and/or reincarnation in this game, Afro. The journey of the game right now is him resurrecting and becoming Wukong, I think. This all takes place after Journey to the West after the intro, that’s why the current character is a silent protagonist unfortunately.
1:10 Think about it. Goku has no original moves. Everything he has came from someone else. Spirit Bomb, Kaioken, Kamehameha, solar flare, destructo disk etc. Monkey see monkey do. Literally.
49:47 the boy was spared by the bear and he was given gold, this started his path of greed and as he grew older he had an obsession over Kasayas which the more elegant and detailed the more expensive they were i dont know if the Bear punished him for his never ending greed. The boys greed caused him to turn into a YaoGuai and boss fight Elder Jinchi and here's how to access it. When your entering the Whiteclad Nobles arena on the left there a path leading to the 3rd and final Bell. Ring all 3 for a secret boss fight
Afro at 11:11 : "I'mma drink" (while, healing in front of the boss) then proceeding to say "So he's not intelligent..." Me: "Traumatic Flashbacks kicking in from the Genichro Ashina second (lightning) phase."
Afro, So in the ending anime, the little monk is elder Jinchi, he was once a well respected 270-years-old monk who hosts the Guanyin temple, but when he met the Tang Xuanzang, Wukong's master, he was consumed by greed and wanted to take Xuanzang's kasaya (it's not just an ordinary kasaya but one given to Xuanzang by the buddha himself) for himself, two little monks (GuangMou and Guangzhi, the fire wolf you can transfer into and the snake yaoguai you have beat) suggested him to kill Xuanzang by using fire so he can take the kasaya. However, Wukong saw through his evil plan and protected Xuanzang, elder Jinchi ended up burning down his own temple and killed himself because of the guilt. In the game, he's spirit transferred into a big head golden monk yaoguai, you'll have to hit 3 different bells to reveal the hidden temple and fight him.
To interpret the Bear animation: It seems like the young boy who turned into a priest was very lustful for material objects which is something Buddhism doesn't think highly of because it taints and distracts the spirit. So the priest's lust for material objects turned him into a greedy and wrathful being who I assume was hoarding one of Wukong's relics. Just an interpretation though, not fact.
It's all in the game. People just have to explore and actually read the bountiful lore provided in the portraits. Jinchi and Black Bear have a backstory from before the game takes place in the novel the game is based on.
TLDR; The Bear became a servant of a Buddhist monk who once sheltered Sun Wukong and his master in Journey to the West. The monk, upon seeing the master’s robes ((called a Kasaya) which were given to him by a God) desired it so much that he set his temple on fire to kill them so he could steal it. Wukong discovered the plot, gave his master a fireproof cloak to sleep under, then used trickery to cause the entire temple to catch fire, killing all the monks there
"Everyone else reading that you can double roll to get rid of fire when it popped up" Afro: *yells for 3 straight minutes about fire and waiting it out*
To better understand Sun Wukong’s backstory (not the one you are playing as), I recommend watching Overly Sarcastic Productions’ Journey To The West recap videos. They briefly touch upon important parts of Sun Wukong’s journey, which this game takes place after!
Kind of a shame that Afro doesnt bother looking at the stories associated to the enemies after he beats them. They are extremely interesting and well thought out
Remember the baby you fought? There's a secret boss and it's the monk you saw in the animated short. If you rang the three bells tou will unblock him. And you didn't saw the bear backstory it was the monk's backstory, the bear was following the orders of her master. The lady was proving that child, if he can leave behind all his possessions to be a better person or something like that. But as you saw, he didn't, he was obsessed with that kesaya (the golden mantle he received), in consequence the lady told the bear to destroy everything with his fire.
there are many ways to meditate, but one effective meditation method for starters is to simply sit and recognize your body. the need to fart, hunger, thirst, and gradually work your way towards being able to recognize the tiny things. another good one is to just think. what your body is doing doesn't really matter. thinking is a simple, but great method of meditation.
I noticed when folks record they miss important spots like after the water fight, but when you don’t record you really zone out, probably get the three bells in the next vid
For that animated scene. Boy loved material luxurious things, and so did the Bear King. The Bear King pretty much was in cahoots with that boy and helped him achieve a high rank among the Buddhist throughout the years, while feeding their greed as a deal, going as far as to make it seem like priest had power over the winds. When the priest got gifted that beautiful and expensive looking silk cloth, the bear wanted it for himself too. The wind that the bear kicked up during the altercation over the cloth, set fire to the temple monastery. And because that priest greed was so potent to his very soul, he became a yaoguai(demon).
Almost right! The Kasaya belonged to the Tang Monk, the monk from Journey to the West. The head of the temple, Jinchi, being greedy wanted it for himself so he conspired to have the room where the Monk slept burnt. Wukong stopped him but in the chaos, fire was set to the whole temple. The bear guai, friend of Jinchi, went in to check on his friend but driven by greed, stole the kasaya instead and ran. Once Jinchi came back to his senses, he took his own life in shame. Wukong tracked the bear, killing his friends and with the help of Guanyin, subdued him and got the kasaya back. The bear became a disciple of Guanyin. This all happens in Journey to the West, in the game, the bear is back, having rebuilt the temple and learnt a new spell to resurrect his friends, though it did not quite pan out.
The prequel to this chapter is: In Journey to the West, the four master and apprentices arrived at Black Wind Mountain. The elder of the temple at that time, who is also the person in the last film, coveted Tang Monk's cassock and wanted to set fire to the four master and apprentices. As a result, the plot was discovered by Sun Wukong, and the whole temple was burned down instead. Regarding the bear and the elder Jinchi, the bear actually had good intentions. In the film, when the elder was still a young monk, he was so hungry in the forest that he wanted to eat frogs and was about to break the monks' precept of killing. The black bear gave him coins to save him, but it aroused his greed and he embarked on a road of no return.
In Journey to the West, Elder Jin Chi has died, but the Black Bear Demon has deep feelings for him, so the Elder Jin Chi in the game is actually the Black Bear Demon who resurrected him. All of this happened after the end of Journey to the West. There are many dialectical thoughts in Buddhism, such as what kind of kindness can truly save a person, and why a person is still so greedy after becoming the most respected person?
so the black bear basically is Buddhism , he saved the monke who’s name is called Jing hai, and the in Buddhism to cut tie with the world and reach the highest level of karma he has to wear that cloth which was given by the master of wukong. But because of him and the bear and he was saved by the bear he couldn’t wear it.
I'm not sure if the bear represents Buddhism in this story, I think he's the same bear in JTTW who fought wukong at black wind mountain, and Elder Jinchi wants the kasaya because tripitaka showed him his and then he began to want it. Seeing as Guangmou and Guangzhi are still related to their original character I think it's the same for the Bear.
You’re not play as Wukong. You’re playing as another monkey called The Destined One who is tasked with recovering relics so that Sun Wukong can be brought back. This takes place after the journey to the west.
Not sure if Afro will see this comment, but a word of advise finish your light attack combo fully and then use your heavy with full focus you do way more stagger

I just finished the first chapter, the English version did no justice to the Chinese writing, if you can please try to listen to the original voice cover with English subtitles! I might not understand the story as well as I am still fighting my way through, but the first chapter of the anime shows the story of the bear and the monk (that big-headed baby you fought earlier - jinchi). The bear companied the young monk through his way up to the head of the temples. The blankets are what was mentioned by Guanyin the kasayas (袈裟), only certain positions of a monk can have certain kasayas. Jinchi was able to live a long life (270 years old, and as the head of the temple) and have hundreds of collections of kasayas, yet he still lusted and fell for Sanzang's (red cloth monk not showing face in the anime) kasaya. He used his power to forcefully take the kasaya that wasn't his, and the lust burns like karma that set out the fire that destroyed the temple in the first place. You can see that Wukong were there was he sat on the tree seeing the temples burn in karma. It's interesting that Jinchi in Chinese is 金池, gold pond, and the bear bonded with Jinchi with a bag of earthly goods in the very beginning. The last sentence Guanyin said lost so much poetry and meaning when translated in English -- The bear asked Guanyin for guidance, for he does not understand how a mortal monk like JInchi, made his path so far for being a monk, which are known to cut earthly desires and ties, still can lust and fell for a kasaya that is not his. Guanyin said, "If I don't wear this kasaya, how could the world know that I have already cut the ties with all the earthly connections and desires? All the gold sea in my heart has already dried out." as a rhetorical question, meaning that to show the world you don't care for something sometimes you need to have it first. JInchi failed to control his lust, as he had everything and still wanted more. It is also fun that in Chinese it matches the name of Jinchi (Gold Pond) and the Guanyin said (Gold Sea) as a metaphorical symbol for the lust for materials. JInchi failed to control his lust, as he had everything and still wanted more, keep filling his pond with gold, finally meeting the karma of nothing being left for him.
Basically the robe is a golden robe that has like special powers and the monk w the red hat that gave it away as a donation to put at the Guanyin shrine was the monk that wukong was guiding during the journey to the west. It was during the journey that the monk gave away the robe. The goddess is Guanyin and she is the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. She has like power to talk to animals n shit and she turned the monk into a yaoguai for being greedy. The big jinchiri (golden deformed baby) was also given a heavenly place but instead he decided to go and try to find immortality which led to him being stuck on earth as a yaoguai searching for his kasaya instead of reaching enlightment like buddha.
Hey Afro if there’s a secret baby boss, u should interact with three giant bell (u have done 2). For the last bell go to the snake boss and on the left side hit the bell it’ll take u to a different location and there you’ll find the baby boss. Reward: some fire shielding robe.

the big golden monk is Jinchi who was the chief of GuanYin Temple. the little monk is JinChi and black wind saved him in past. Black wind was the guardian of GuanYin Temple, however, since JinChi got corrupted by power, he got corrupted as well. Fire, Kasaya, and some image on this anime are all reference of Journey to the West. Better to read those stories and you can explore more details from it.
Didn’t he also burn the temple which k/lled the fire staff and big wolf ?
Really? So the bear is the guardian instead of some local demon seizing an opportunity in the fire made by the abbot in this one?
@HelloWilliam2007 Ohh I see.Yeah he must be the Wandering Wight thing.Since the other yaouguai we see seem to be the other monks under him.

Small correction and if I'm wrong let me know I'm pretty sure the player is trying to collect the relics to revive the real sun wukong
@@kingtut4266yes and no I’m guess the relics will someone how combine with the player making them one
To be precise, he has "seven" immortalities? And that eating the gods' peaches of immortality is one of them, right?

I wish I could speak to him personally to express my disdain for his treatment of fans. You all deserve more than a mentally challenged adult who doesn’t know how to read.
All TH-camrs do this same thing idk why, they skip over shit they need but then read stuff they don’t, they’re also blind asf and don’t use common sense ever bro 😭
I see that happen with a lot of youtubers/streamers where they dont read any tips the game provides and pay no attention for some reason

Just an interpretation though, not fact.
he desires the robes, and the bear represents greed
It's all in the game. People just have to explore and actually read the bountiful lore provided in the portraits. Jinchi and Black Bear have a backstory from before the game takes place in the novel the game is based on.
@@tulpasconstructor2711i ain't doing allat exploring
Bruh do you know how many brain cells it takes to even understand souls games lore? Elden ring for example. I do not understand that shi tbh

Black Myth just means dark and gritty story telling but I also love the fact that you never went back a true Afro experience.
2nd episode better then the 1st one, CINEMA!
To better understand Sun Wukong’s backstory (not the one you are playing as), I recommend watching Overly Sarcastic Productions’ Journey To The West recap videos. They briefly touch upon important parts of Sun Wukong’s journey, which this game takes place after!
That's definitely one of the better explanation videos of the myths
Damn at 36:10 I think Afro activated his second phase way sooner. I didn’t even know you could do that
Yeah, I noticed that too and was confused on how he did it. I fought that bear at least 10 times and that never happened.
Probably since it’s not a second phase idk why people think it is it’s not like White clad how is it considered a second phase boss lol
Kind of a shame that Afro doesnt bother looking at the stories associated to the enemies after he beats them. They are extremely interesting and well thought out
4:08 getting some backshots in is nasty work 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Remember the baby you fought? There's a secret boss and it's the monk you saw in the animated short. If you rang the three bells tou will unblock him.
And you didn't saw the bear backstory it was the monk's backstory, the bear was following the orders of her master. The lady was proving that child, if he can leave behind all his possessions to be a better person or something like that. But as you saw, he didn't, he was obsessed with that kesaya (the golden mantle he received), in consequence the lady told the bear to destroy everything with his fire.

“And now he can summon blankets”

there are many ways to meditate, but one effective meditation method for starters is to simply sit and recognize your body. the need to fart, hunger, thirst, and gradually work your way towards being able to recognize the tiny things. another good one is to just think. what your body is doing doesn't really matter. thinking is a simple, but great method of meditation.
@@charlietownsend2826 I was close? Nice.
But seriously, this was a great interpretation

@afrosenju

"Da Baby was the hardest thing I have fought so far"
