It always shocks me that you are not more well known. Your production quality is top notch. Keep it up!
The algorithm will benefit you someday
This should be the official nhl fan account
Legit better than most Netflix documentary
It's because he covers the NHL. But I agree, top notch quality.
Gritty explains Philadelphia. When Gritty made his debut, everybody in the City said WTF. People were not impressed. But once people outside the city started to make fun of Gritty, the city rallied around Gritty and embraced him. That’s brotherly love.
Yep, the old "only I can beat up my little brother" argument. 🤣
Now Gritty is prob the current most popular Mascot. Oh how the turn tables
@@benderbendingrodriguez420 Yea, but mostly because a bunch of wannabe commies have adopted him as their mascot.
I’m kinda regretting voting for multiple episodes rather than one long feature video. This one definitely left me wanting more. Well done!
Well, look at it this way. If I did one video, I’d only be a quarter of the way done editing and you’d still have to wait a few weeks to watch it. At least this way you now have something to look forward to every week!
6:57 "You know him as Gritty..." No, I know him as "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!"
But having said that, I like Gritty. I like all the NHL's furry friends, and indeed pretty much any mascot of any sports team. That's why I gave my approval for this series, and I am very much looking forward to more episodes. Onwards to Part 2!!
1:22 is something you definitely DON'T see very often - Harvey wearing an actual Flames jersey. He's usually the only NHL mascot that doesn't.
True, that seemed to be a rare clip.
@icethetics Indeed. Another neat tidbit that you may or may not have known is that Gnash is one of the toughest mascots in the NHL. Not only does he do stunts like rappel from the rafters and ride an ATV, but one season Gnash kept doing his job - cast, wheelchair and all - after breaking his leg in an off-season training accident. THAT is true dedication to your craft and the character!
You’re videos are truly incredible from the editing the sound design the research the graphics. Works of art man as nice as any of the beautiful sweaters you cover!
Thank you! 💙
A very great subject to have condensed archival data on in a video, thank you very much! I grew up with games at the old Pittsburgh Civic Arena and I'll never forget being very disturbed the first time I saw that clip from Sudden Death haha
Haha, I watched that whole dang movie because research. Talk about disturbing. 😅
Damn I didn’t want the episode to end!
Since you „spoiled“ the topic in the community tab I’ve been excitedly waiting for the vid. And what can I say? It was worth the wait! The quality is top notch as always and the topic is just so much fun! Can’t wait for the next parts.
P.S. I have to defend Gritty though. I would cuddle that thing. Just look at how plushy it is!
Just don’t look him directly in the eye! 😅
Didnt dissapoint! Such interesting history, cant wait for the 90s mascot boom next episode!
Glad you enjoyed it!
When I first found this channel I thought it was nhl made...to this day I still cannot believe it's not. Some of thecvery best quality I've seen!
Thank you! They don’t seem interested in hiring me, so I figured I’ll just do my own thing. 😅
Heeeeellllll yeah. I loved this. Can’t wait for part 2!
That was fantastic, teh style was spot on and didnt just feel like you were reading off a list of names. Brilliant
Awesome! cant wait for the next one! Huzzah for Gritty and Al!
Hope to see Colorado’s first mascot Howler the Yeti on one of your Mascot Mayhem videos!
He’ll be there! Third episode.
Second, cool series so far! Oh and by the way, there is a football (⚽) team in Germany (FC Cologne) that has a live billy goat, named Hennes. This tradition has been on since 1950.
🥈
Absolutely one of my favorite videos ever!!! Can't wait for the next one!!! Great job, Chris!!!
Thank you!
My top mascots
1. Al the Octopus
2. Nyles (original version)
3. Wally the Whaler
4. SJ Sharkie
5. NJ Devil
6. Stanley C Panther & Victor E Rat
7. Howler the Yeti
Awesome video. Looking forward to the other episodes!
That was awesome great job! I didn’t know sabretooth was the second oldest mascot! I believe Budd Bailey came up with the idea of him
That’s right. Budd Bailey and Paul Wieland developed the character, according to all the reports I’ve found.
Glad you decided to make it a series!
When i saw the community post of this video idea i said hell yes still feeling the same way 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Happy you enjoyed it!
I love this video! Can't wait for the next part
so excited for this series!!
Want to say this was a treat to watch, and on a personal note I want to say "THANK YOU!" for pronouncing Al Sobotka's name correctly, as it is also my surname as well. (I've heard too many Hockey commentators and play-by-play men mispronouncing it as "So-BOAT-ka", when it is as you said it: "So-BOT-Ka")
Looking forwards to Episode Two!
Yeah, I try to make a point to look up name pronunciations. Annoying to hear your name pronounced wrong. Not that I’d know personally... having the most generic first and last name in history. 😅 Thanks for watching!
Let’s get the comments going to send this thing viral. The content is amazing and yet it is still overshadowed by this award winning production
Thanks for the kind words, Gregg!
Amazing as always! Can't wait for the other parts.
Very kind, thank you!
Im already excited for the next video!
Loving this, and anything mascot history related, footage can be so hard to find!
Tell me about it.
The video we've all been waiting for! I mean, I definitely have been.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Love your content as much as I love Gritty! Great video!
Thanks for watching!
Hugely fantastic video
Hold up, hold the phone, Gnash is cousins to Sabertooth? 😅😂 Mascot Loreeeeeee
😆
This was great! You are an incredible editor! Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the kind words!
Iceburgh was originally conceived by the late Badger Bob Johnson and his wife Martha when he was the head coach of the 1990-91 Penguins team that won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.
True story! And the Johnsons were inspired by Harvey the Hound from their time in Calgary. The Penguins have a video on their channel that delves into his full history. th-cam.com/video/7dBMf2RGRvo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RjtbuYyB8B5tn1_x
Can't wait to hear what you have to say on Youppi. I don't love the Habs, but I do absolutely love that mascot.
Thanks you for your videos!
Thanks for watching! 💙
I hit 'like' before I even started the video. What an incredible addition to your many already spectacular series!
Thank you for delving into the world of mascots. I've always been a bit obsessed with these zany representatives. I can't wait to see if Thrash makes an appearance in Episode 2!
...And it was a pleasant surprise to see my original comment in the beginning of this one!
Glad you enjoyed this one! And yes, Thrash will make an appearance in episode 3.
@@icethetics YYESSSS!!! Dude, that's amazing! I will be (im)patiently waiting.
Video is awesome but you're videos are always amazing. Keep doing what your doing,I really love them!!😄🥳😁
Thank you!!
ITS FINALLY HERE!!!
Great video bud!
🙏
I love your quality ❤️
Thank you for watching! 💙
Anytime I see new Icethetics video, I watch immediately possible
Love to hear it!
@@icetheticsplease keep this series going. I love it ❤
4:45 - Why didn't they just modify the mascot with 16 tentacles instead?
Plus, this would make it even more original and marketable.
...or more terrifying? 😳
@@icethetics
Yeah!! Why not? It's hockey after all! 🙂
Fantastic as usual. Again you found stuff here I didn't know about. Will you cover what happened to Howler the Yeti?
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. And yes, Howler is covered in episode 3.
Yay, my comment on the last video was shown in this one! I was right, this did rule. Looking forward to the next one
Well done, Chris!
Thanks, Bret!
Well Harvey was the first successful mascot, and the longest lasting for costumed mascots
He is related to the CFL Calgary Stampeders’ mascot Ralph the Dog
But they’re supposed to be fun, and for the most part they are, as is the video
Looking forward to the next part.
Neither his Wikipedia page, or his bio on the Stampeders' website mention this, but I distinctly remember that Ralph began life as the mascot for North Hill shopping mall, not the team. His first few appearances at McMahon stadium, he was a shopping mall mascot who was moonlighting.
@@gordonwhitney6052 that is correct, in fact his initial appearances at Stampeders’ games were also promotional appearances for the nearby mall
Yuogi was the expos mascot till the relocation to Washington
Spoilers! 😅
Love this video and I saw my comment in the beginning!!!
Haha, yep! Thanks for watching... and commenting!!
Oh hey, my comment was in the middle of screen on an Icesthetic video. That's pretty cool and enough to earn a "like" from me. 😏
What do you use to edit? Your editing is always so good I gotta know.
Thanks! I work in Adobe... Premiere Pro for editing and After Effects for graphics. Been a professional video editor and writer for many years now. 😅
Can't wait till you talk about the neon green yellow jacket named Stinger
In the next episode!
I can't wait the hear about Krater
😬 hmm... i might need to hear about "Krater" first... 🤷🏻♂️
If I recall correctly, the Sabres had a "mascot" back in the '70s named "Sammy Sabre". He was...well, a sabre wearing ice skates and carrying a hockey stick. I can only find examples of Sammy as a cartoon character on print media, but I swear that at one point, there was an actual in-arena live version. As you might imagine, the costume was unwieldy and odd looking (a walking Sabre?). Sammy didn't last long. And Sabretooth is a much cooler mascot anyway.
Omg it’s happening. 😎👍
Oh boy I can’t wait for him to talk about my favorite team’s mascot…
Oh my… the Rangers do have a section in episode 3. 😬 Can’t leave any team out.
It would be cool to get some behind the scenes of how much work goes into these videos.
It’s a lot. 😅
I see gritty chasing after me in my nightmares
Gritty is just a millennial "influencer" take on the greatest costumed character in hockey - Montreal's former Expo / current Habs mascot, Youppi!
what a description 😆
🙌
Considering his namesake's exit from the franchise I wonder if “Al” the Octopus would ever be renamed, it's pretty unofficial in any regard so maybe they'll just never talk about it.
I don’t know but according to the NHL’s official brand guidelines for mascots, Al the Octopus is very much official. And regardless of the way his tenure with the team ended, Sobotka will always be a big part of the history.
@@icethetics interesting, I didn't know he was official! I imagine the only reason he'd change is if Al Sobotka asked them to change it, but I doubt he would. He's still beloved by fans.
Hopefully we see Al back this (post) season!!!
Where did you find those old images of Harvey Hound? The better question is. Why did Harvey look so odd and creepy in the 80's? He looked like the wolf version of the Spurs coyote.
I'm glad you asked! I meant to put a card linking to the original video. There's a great piece by KSPS in Spokane about Glenn Street and his company Street Characters. They had lots of great footage and photos of the earliest versions of Harvey. th-cam.com/video/dWXijW5IauU/w-d-xo.html
Pt3😊😊
In progress! Voiceover is done and editing is underway. 💙
Pt2
When you talk about Tommy Hawk, I will be very disappointed if you don't include the video of him body slamming a dude that attacked him at the United Center.
Haha, it’s in there. 😅
I wish my Rangers would come out with a mascot, I don’t understand why they don’t have one
The Penguins would taxidermy the dead mascot and put him on display for all the kiddies to see.
Yep... right up until people started complaining. Thought that story might be a bit too grim for this video. 😬
Time for the AHL the ECHL after NHL mascots
Haha! Let’s see how this series goes first. 😅
THE MASCOTS ARE ON TO THE PLAYERS(because there are putting there heads on the glass
It’s Al
I want Moooooooooooooore
Coming soon!
Bring Back Winger!
Come on, Stevie.
Complete the Yzerplan, completely.
BRING BACK WINGER!
The real missing piece.
Where is Pucky the Whale?????
In episode two!
Gritty is the only thing I like about the Flyers. Him and Buoy are both meth addicts in my book lol.
Great work!
But I hate mascots..
Your support is appreciated. 😅
Why?
I really don't care for buoy
