I‘m a metalhead for about 40 years now, and I can say that EDM is the best piece of music I ever listened to. So deep, so epic, so sad, I got goosebumps every time I listen to this masterpiece🤘🏻
Doom Metal was born a couple of years before Candlemass released Epicus. The label for the new extreme subgener became Doom Metal. Epicus named the gener of Heavy Metal, not of their own but they contributed a lot. Thrash Metal was the first extreme subgener of Heavy Metal to emerge in the early 80s. Doom Metal was not far behind in 1983, 84 with bands like Trouble and Saint Vitius. While Thrash is fast and agressive like a machinegun, Doom is slow dark and heavy. Bouth geners would eventually evolve to more extreme subgeners in the late 80s and 90s. Subgeners like Death Metal and Funeral Doom Metal is of course a continuation of Thrash and Classic Doom Metal. Epicus Doomicus Metalicus is a masterpiece and a Milestone of Doom Metal music. Candlemass became legends with their debute album and the albums that followed in the late 80s. Thanks for an awesome documentary of a great band 🤘
Epicus made my xmas list just after it came out, probably from a "Metal Forces" or other Zine recommendation. So my mother proceeded to special order it for me through a local record store. This became one of her favorite stories, when everyone in the store stopped and stared at this 6'+ aristocratic woman ordering " Epicus Doomicus Metallicus". I am sure she was pronouncing it as intoning a spell too. This alongside the greatness of the music makes it ( and the band) my favorite Doom pic.
@RuthlessMetalYT i didnt even know they had recording studios in downers grove il back then lol. Probably right down the street from my dads old job or something. I wouldnt doubt it. Probably hung out at skuttlebutts like him too (a real place lol. Pizza and beer). My dad was never into metal tho. He literally worked with metal tho at rexnord making roller bearings tho. Making metal faster with less friction lol. Now that just blew my own mind 🤯🤣
Solitude was released as a single cassette with Messiah Marcolin as vocalist and Crystal Ball on side B. It stood out among all the pop singles at the time. I had to get multiple copies knowing I would wear out the tapes and how special a release like that is.
U say that one of the covers had an inverted cross and the other one didn't. Doesn't inverted mean upside down cross. That would mean that the shaft of the cross ie the long stem should be at the top of the head if it was inverted. But i can't see that on either of those pictures, i only see a different colour. Can someone please point out what i am missing here thanks.
Very interesting and well done video. I never got into Candlemass too much but did have whatever cassette that the song Mirror Mirror was on, in the 80's and loved that one. I never got Epicus... but I need to check that one out now.
My introduction to Candlemass was Tales Of Creation. Which is an awesome record 🤘🤘 Then i saw the band open for King Diamond in Denmark Back in 1990. The old records with the almighty Messiah Marcolin are in my opinion the best 🤘🤘🤘

Crazy how a small band like trouble, that recorded that song only 2 towns south of me, had such an impact on a band thousands of miles away from us
yes, especially in the low information age before the internet. But those metal massacre compilations was huge.

you also use inverted when it comes to colors, it's practically the opposite, when the white colors turns to black and black colors turns to white. :)
@RuthlessMetalYT oh thanks I never knew that. I thought it was only about upside down crosses.
inverted
/ɪnˈvəːtɪd/
adjective
1.
placed or lying upside down or in the opposite position, order, or arrangement from usual.
