a reminder that the Ethic's committee serves no actual purpose and was only created because the wiki got out of control again and SCP's started to scale into insane crazy territory and they already had a "one above all" with 682 and couldn't simply create another one. So the Ethic's committee is there to go "you know, this object is really powerful, but what if we introduced an arbitrary voice that tells the foundation. No, you can't cure cancer. Or no, you can't dropkick Sarkics with this cool deathray scp object you got. You might cause collateral damage. Greater good btw" Even in universe the Ethics committee is a joke. Its only a tool used to reign in authors writing in another fantastical save/destroy all device and to add "nuance"
@@thefallencogI think the ethics committee actually works well in this one. This is a great example of an scp that's really dark largely because of what the foundation does with it. On one hand it does have a bit of that issue where people make the foundation out to be this incredibly evil entity that just likes to hurt people, but on the other hand it's mostly realistic in how it does so. Like trapping a spy in a crippled body and torturing him to death then resurrecting him until he complies is a really evil and dark thing but they would totally do that if they needed information. At the same time, far less than that would be a war crime in any other scenario. It makes sense that there would be some kind of entity that exists to keep the foundation itself from committing war crimes at every opportunity

I’m always curious about this but- what do you draw the line between them? The old SCP and the new. Personally I view older files as more clinical and realistic. More lab tests and less MTF Whereas the newer styles I have viewed are more exploration and story based
@@joshmcintyre5868I myself tend to see the older generation of SCP as cold and clinical (sometimes to the point of it being derpy, like in throwing D-class at an item until it stops acting up or being unnecessarily cruel, though I usually criticize such articles). You can also argue that the item being something entirely mundane with an anamalous property is associated with earlier SCPs. Later SCPs tend to be a lot more long-winded, often with multiple addendums. The Ethics Commitee also tends to have more oversight, rather than being, if anything, a joke in earlier entries.
I feel like the soul transfer wasn't too bad up until they decided they'd kill an interogatee and swap him over and over again until they got what they want. That was especially kind of fucked.
This is what an SCP should be, super simple, straight to the point and relatively easy to understand and the horrifying implications come later in the article. I'm tired of SCPs where it's clear that all the author wants to do is write a fanfiction on some character they've invented and how they feel in some scenario where the SCP is secondary.
This premise itself even isn’t that bad when it’s used in SCP tales, where stories can actually focus more on the people and places surrounding an SCP.
@@andrewedmunds4583 Tale and SCPs should be separate. There's a few where overlap is acceptable, but too much and the SCP just turns into a regular internet creepy pasta.
Also, cross-testing this with sentient anomalies could have produced some truly horrific results. I hope someone writes a tale in which the Foundation is stupid enough to try that.
I was eagerly waiting for them to just start stuffing immortal SCP's into mortal bodies and was somewhat disappointed when it didn't happen. It's nice when things start to get really dark tho, I love that stuff. Rip to the volunteer who failed to get rescued and got tortured to death.

I had to laugh at the doctor's confusion over a triangle made of 90° angles, because that's what non-Euclidean geometry looks like -- what he described was an equilateral triangle on the surface of a sphere.

I'd love to know if, hypothetically, you swapped the meta-data for say 173 and 096. If you looked at a photo of 173's face afterwards, would it "act" like 096? Or would it still act with the anomalous properties of 173? Would looking at 096's face cause 173 (with 096's memories, consciousness etc) to come after you? Would it cause 173's body to cease movement? There are so many possibilities

The guy that got swapped with dr Martin died and got brought back multiple times, not being able to find solace even in death if he didn't cooperate. That's basically waterboarding on steroids.
This one really showed how twisted and effed up the foundation can get. Very unsettling. I enjoyed how it gradually went into darker places only to be eased back by the ethics comitee.

Is this really a series 8 entry? We were just one termination attempt of 682 away from maximum series 1 energy. Hoping we see more entries in the future. A powerful anomaly with horrifying abilities, without scope creeping in to another K-class. Showcasing the ruthless pragmatism of the foundation without falling in to complete megalomania. Awesome addition to the wiki.
I actually wrote a 682 termination attempt in my head while listening. It's metadata file was too large and caused a kernal panic in any device it was contained on.

As a casual SCP fan, I came to your channel largely for recommendations, like a curated list of the more interesting SCPs among thousands (but stayed for the excellent execution). So in my perspective as a viewer, that’s where half of your battle lies. You usually do this very well, but I think you really hit it out of the park this time. I guess I just want to say I appreciate you so much for doing the herculian task of wading through the immense backlog of writings in the wiki for the rest of us and bringing us gems like this. Am I the only one who thinks it odd that the folks on the project didn't try to use subjects of similar age or at least the same physical gender for the swaps? I mean, even without being a scientist, that's one of the first things I'd have set in the testing just to attempt to eliminate as many "rejection" and "recovery" variables as possible.
Would make sense to use people of a similar mental state. Having similar chemical balances in the brain, similar history, similar physical health, same race and gender. These factors matching between the two bodies would make a transfer of consciences less stressful post amnestic as having different chemicals, hormones and health on someone who is used to working a certain way could be unpleasant mentally.
Doesn't sound too unrealistic that some slightly weird person might say "neat, I can swap bodies and experience the other gender". Sounds very human to me.
Wow this got incredibly 1984 dark very quickly. Incredible work from the author to make such an interesting SCP. I was thinking halfway through “wow you can do a lot of awful shit with this” then we got to the second half of the video 👀.
The ethics commitee really pulling through with this one, they really are the difference in "the foundation is cold, not cruel." But it really does make you think.
The mention of triangles made of 90 degree angles as well as nonlinear time and memories during the conciousness transfer seem to allude that the camera's mechanisms operate in 4 dimensional physics or higher.
Wonder what would happen if they tried to recover deleted meta data. Dude getting pulled back from afterlife into a dead body? A zombie? What if the meta data got corrupted? Great SCP, simple and terrifying.
I feel like the subjects will only be able to remember everything up until the shot was taken if they did that. Imagine the panic of those subjects when they return to their bodies, only to feel excruciating pain because their femurs were shattered 💀
This is an excellent example of how Safe =/= safe. This SCP is safe because, if locked away and left alone, it poses no danger to anyone. However, it is not safe to release or simply play with. It is more dangerous than any non-anomalous firearm.
This is a good one, I love it when an SCP not only leaves me wondering what potential uses it might have but also if they're too immoral to even try them, it makes me empathize with those researchers in the tales that throw caution to the wind and go ahead with doing incredibly risky tests for the sake of satisfying their own curiosity. No wonder the ethics committee had to intervine, this toy is too dangerous and also downright inhumane.
Casualty report. This was a complicated one for giving a count. The discovery of the object involved the death of the person of interest as well as 2 operatives. In testing, there were 5 deaths, 2 of them suicides, 2 instant shutdowns, and 1 death from bodily failure, but this does not include the poor guy who had the misfortune of dying 3 times, each presumably with a dead body as a result. So 8 deaths from testing. Additionally, the examples from project soulmate show 7 PoI's captured and the death of 3 sleeper agents. 14 deaths in this document and 7 individuals captured.
Bunch of nerdy sci-fi dudes writing some of the best material on the internet. I love this shit. It grew on me. It is like these videos plant a seed in my head. It spurs my imagination. The motivation combined with the very detailed descriptions of various anomalies gets my creative nodes going. It is hard to explain. Either way- it is good.
I love this kind of scp, it's not a super complicated, reality-bending, world destroying god or anything like that, it's just. Simple yet interesting anomaly that is very well documented and nothing else.
I'm surprised they didn't do a soul swap between two people that want to be each other's biological sex. Seems like a win-win for the subjects and a built-in dampener to the psychological trauma of the procedure.
The foundation doesn't exist to affirm the genders of criminals, plus there's no way that people who just want different genitals would feel less trauma than someone who wanted to not die of lung cancer
I wonder what would happen if they tried to crosstest this with SCP-963? 963 grants its user resistance, if not outright immunity, to most mind altering effects. Additionally, if it works, the trauma should be minimal seeing as he is pretty used to switching bodies and even making mental clones of himself. "Taking selfies with SCP-7122" could even be on the List of Thing Dr. Bright *is* allowed to do.
@@rykazasan the amulet isn't sapient. It's a magical tool bonded to Dr. Jack Bright's soul/mind/consciousness. It wouldn't learn anything, but testing the camera on Bright could lead to a clearer understanding of how either of the anomalies work.
Seems to me that since it targets and terminates creatures with intelligence, this might just be the key to take out SCP-682. Either you could delete SCP-682's file or you could transfer 682's consciousness into another, more killable subject.
The way I see it, that might actually create a psychic adaptation. The only thing I think is capable of killing 682 is the fluid dispenser, being that its sentience effectively allows it to beat out an organic being in an arms race. I.E. No matter how much 682 evolves, there will likely always be a fluid that could react negatively, in a highly specific way. Kind of like how viruses can hyper-specialize to always be able to predate on a specific array of living beings.
Scp 6820 shows how bad that would be. 682 is a powerful abstract idea given physical form. Use that camera and he'll either resist the pull, or worse go into the nonexistence and get stronger; maybe come back with the camera's power.
That was dark and fucked up, but absolutely brilliant. A camera with 2 very dangerous abilities. Always interesting when a anomaly has 2 different powers. Think in the future you could try and do the desire camera (scp 978)
Tough life for the poor 14 year old Chinese girl... From losing her family to an Uyghur internment camp to being used as a body-switching soldier. Definitely one of the Foundation's darker deeds.
Did i not pay attention well enough, or wouldnt this scp theoretically let you clone individual's metadata and put it in one or more d-class personnel bodies. Basically having three people who think they are the same person, in different bodies.
I did not think of that, but it seems obvious now. They could find a person who is 1: Extremely loyal to the foundation and, 2: Deals with the transfer process particularly well, and copy that person's metadata onto every person of interest they can get a photo of. Maybe they would have if the ethics committee hadn't shut it all down.
The way its described, the meta data "advanced properties" persist as extra-dimensional data not actually stored within the .ANO file, given the file size is not representative of this data. The file simply serves as an anchor to reality for this persons "soul". While the image and regular metadata describes the physical representation of the person, as it can be manipulated to manipulate the body's actions and speech. This "advanced" metadata persists as the living consciousness and not actually static data which is why people experience ego-death and dream states between conscious transfer. If you decide to copy this data across multiple .ANO files you are anchoring the same consciousness across three different bodies, these are not copies, but the same original one, with multiple files to anchor to. The consciousness would likely tear itself apart almost immediately.
This is why some safe SCPs scare the ever-living crap out of me. I understand what safe means in a containment class, but holy crap, this one is absolutely terrifying.
It's one of those horrors that is worse when you think about the possibilities compared to the actual telling. Like the tales of the old wizards who would soul-swap to others to steal their time

I do notice that there was never an attempt to reinstate deleted meta data after deletion. This may have something to do with my understanding of how meta data works. Can you Ctrl Z a meta data deletion? And if so, can that person be reinstated? They also never attempted to switch them back after a switch. And someone else already mentioned it. But what about copies of meta data being placed into multiple D-Class? So many interesting opportunities. Its also intriguing as the O-5 council could easily make themselces immortal through this. However depending on the article it can be suggested they already are...
So. What happens if the camera is used to photograph Dr. Bright’s current host and the metadata is deleted? Does he reappear if the amulet is placed on another host? What happens when just the amulet is photographed and that image’s metadata is deleted? Does Dr. Bright go away for good?
I’d doubt as when you read its description, it said the raccoon contained human DNA, had a longer live span and vulnerable to human base disease. It’s more likely a reality bender turned him into a raccoon and somehow made the foundation unable to connect the dots.

I'd love to know if, hypothetically, you swapped the meta-data for say 173 and 096. If you looked at a photo of 173's face afterwards, would it "act" like 096? Or would it still act with the anomalous properties of 173?
Would looking at 096's face cause 173 (with 096's memories, consciousness etc) to come after you? Would it cause 173's body to cease movement? There are so many possibilities

This one really showed how twisted and effed up the foundation can get. Very unsettling. I enjoyed how it gradually went into darker places only to be eased back by the ethics comitee.
"We secure, we contain. We protect." Best ending line to such an entry... Great read. The way you trembled your voice ever so slightly at the more gruesome descriptions was an incredible touch

Is this really a series 8 entry? We were just one termination attempt of 682 away from maximum series 1 energy. Hoping we see more entries in the future. A powerful anomaly with horrifying abilities, without scope creeping in to another K-class. Showcasing the ruthless pragmatism of the foundation without falling in to complete megalomania. Awesome addition to the wiki.
I actually wrote a 682 termination attempt in my head while listening. It's metadata file was too large and caused a kernal panic in any device it was contained on.

You know, when I saw the 'Safe' classification, I didn't think it would be all that crazy. But damn, you can never make assumptions like that in the Foundation, can you?
Safe only means it doesnt try to escape or is otherwise hazardous to contain.
Safe ones to me are the best ones and probably the Interesting stories
Safe object class just means if you stick it in a box it won't do anything but sit in the box.
As a casual SCP fan, I came to your channel largely for recommendations, like a curated list of the more interesting SCPs among thousands (but stayed for the excellent execution). So in my perspective as a viewer, that’s where half of your battle lies. You usually do this very well, but I think you really hit it out of the park this time. I guess I just want to say I appreciate you so much for doing the herculian task of wading through the immense backlog of writings in the wiki for the rest of us and bringing us gems like this. Am I the only one who thinks it odd that the folks on the project didn't try to use subjects of similar age or at least the same physical gender for the swaps?
I mean, even without being a scientist, that's one of the first things I'd have set in the testing just to attempt to eliminate as many "rejection" and "recovery" variables as possible.

Would make sense to use people of a similar mental state. Having similar chemical balances in the brain, similar history, similar physical health, same race and gender. These factors matching between the two bodies would make a transfer of consciences less stressful post amnestic as having different chemicals, hormones and health on someone who is used to working a certain way could be unpleasant mentally.
Doesn't sound too unrealistic that some slightly weird person might say "neat, I can swap bodies and experience the other gender". Sounds very human to me.
I love "simple" SCPs like this it lets the writers get very creative

Wow this got incredibly 1984 dark very quickly. Incredible work from the author to make such an interesting SCP. I was thinking halfway through “wow you can do a lot of awful shit with this” then we got to the second half of the video 👀.
The ethics commitee really pulling through with this one, they really are the difference in "the foundation is cold, not cruel." But it really does make you think.
The mention of triangles made of 90 degree angles as well as nonlinear time and memories during the conciousness transfer seem to allude that the camera's mechanisms operate in 4 dimensional physics or higher.
Wonder what would happen if they tried to recover deleted meta data. Dude getting pulled back from afterlife into a dead body? A zombie? What if the meta data got corrupted? Great SCP, simple and terrifying.
I feel like the subjects will only be able to remember everything up until the shot was taken if they did that. Imagine the panic of those subjects when they return to their bodies, only to feel excruciating pain because their femurs were shattered 💀
A camera that swaps souls is a very interesting SCP. Also, you don’t see the Ethics Committee step into much of these experiments often. Lol
This is an excellent example of how Safe =/= safe.
This SCP is safe because, if locked away and left alone, it poses no danger to anyone. However, it is not safe to release or simply play with. It is more dangerous than any non-anomalous firearm.
This is a good one, I love it when an SCP not only leaves me wondering what potential uses it might have but also if they're too immoral to even try them, it makes me empathize with those researchers in the tales that throw caution to the wind and go ahead with doing incredibly risky tests for the sake of satisfying their own curiosity. No wonder the ethics committee had to intervine, this toy is too dangerous and also downright inhumane.
Casualty report. This was a complicated one for giving a count. The discovery of the object involved the death of the person of interest as well as 2 operatives. In testing, there were 5 deaths, 2 of them suicides, 2 instant shutdowns, and 1 death from bodily failure, but this does not include the poor guy who had the misfortune of dying 3 times, each presumably with a dead body as a result. So 8 deaths from testing. Additionally, the examples from project soulmate show 7 PoI's captured and the death of 3 sleeper agents. 14 deaths in this document and 7 individuals captured.
I'm surprised they didn't consider amnestics to mitigate trauma until Dr. Martin suggested it.

I love this kind of scp, it's not a super complicated, reality-bending, world destroying god or anything like that, it's just. Simple yet interesting anomaly that is very well documented and nothing else.
I'm surprised they didn't do a soul swap between two people that want to be each other's biological sex. Seems like a win-win for the subjects and a built-in dampener to the psychological trauma of the procedure.

Additionally, if it works, the trauma should be minimal seeing as he is pretty used to switching bodies and even making mental clones of himself.

What if they amulet learns how to switch consciousness from the camera upon use and allows Dr. Bright that ability with any camera?
@@rykazasan the amulet isn't sapient. It's a magical tool bonded to Dr. Jack Bright's soul/mind/consciousness.
It wouldn't learn anything, but testing the camera on Bright could lead to a clearer understanding of how either of the anomalies work.
This one turned out to be an unexpected gem, one of my favorites.
Seems to me that since it targets and terminates creatures with intelligence, this might just be the key to take out SCP-682. Either you could delete SCP-682's file or you could transfer 682's consciousness into another, more killable subject.
The way I see it, that might actually create a psychic adaptation. The only thing I think is capable of killing 682 is the fluid dispenser, being that its sentience effectively allows it to beat out an organic being in an arms race. I.E. No matter how much 682 evolves, there will likely always be a fluid that could react negatively, in a highly specific way. Kind of like how viruses can hyper-specialize to always be able to predate on a specific array of living beings.
Scp 6820 shows how bad that would be. 682 is a powerful abstract idea given physical form. Use that camera and he'll either resist the pull, or worse go into the nonexistence and get stronger; maybe come back with the camera's power.
That was dark and fucked up, but absolutely brilliant. A camera with 2 very dangerous abilities. Always interesting when a anomaly has 2 different powers. Think in the future you could try and do the desire camera (scp 978)

Did i not pay attention well enough, or wouldnt this scp theoretically let you clone individual's metadata and put it in one or more d-class personnel bodies. Basically having three people who think they are the same person, in different bodies.
I was thinking the same thing, the D-class share the same consciousness.

I did not think of that, but it seems obvious now. They could find a person who is 1: Extremely loyal to the foundation and, 2: Deals with the transfer process particularly well, and copy that person's metadata onto every person of interest they can get a photo of. Maybe they would have if the ethics committee hadn't shut it all down.
The way its described, the meta data "advanced properties" persist as extra-dimensional data not actually stored within the .ANO file, given the file size is not representative of this data. The file simply serves as an anchor to reality for this persons "soul". While the image and regular metadata describes the physical representation of the person, as it can be manipulated to manipulate the body's actions and speech.
This "advanced" metadata persists as the living consciousness and not actually static data which is why people experience ego-death and dream states between conscious transfer.
If you decide to copy this data across multiple .ANO files you are anchoring the same consciousness across three different bodies, these are not copies, but the same original one, with multiple files to anchor to. The consciousness would likely tear itself apart almost immediately.
The "Safe" ones are usually some of the best, this one is no exception.
This is why some safe SCPs scare the ever-living crap out of me. I understand what safe means in a containment class, but holy crap, this one is absolutely terrifying.

Okay, but would this maybe explain the SCP about the agent who became a raccoon.
I’d doubt as when you read its description, it said the raccoon contained human DNA, had a longer live span and vulnerable to human base disease. It’s more likely a reality bender turned him into a raccoon and somehow made the foundation unable to connect the dots.
