I missed a week as I had to build and test my new PC, super excited to be almost back to full production power! Also, Big news … The return of the text crawl!! - thanks to "OhhCrapGuy" one of my Ethics committee patrons. He has single headedly written a piece of software (called ACID - one of my ideas for Dr. Millar's AI assistant back in the day) for me that allows me to generate the text crawls so it doesn't take me hours at a time. I honestly can't think him enough and I'm so happy to have the text crawl back in my videos … the videos look right again. This is what I understood from the article, the Mysterium is a piece that was meant to be played at end of human civilization as a sort of mercy kill that wipes the slate clean for the next great civilization. However the entity, which is implied to be related to the Scarlet King, that helped create the Mysterium wishes it played immediately and this somehow helps the scarlet king, I think, gonna need to watch it a few more times to properly understand what is going on
The Mysterium was indeed created to be a sort of mercy kill for humanity to help them go as painlessly as possible if the end of the world were to ever be known about ahead of time, to make way for the next civilization that would come after us. Due to the scarlet king’s influence, however, he infected the ritual with a number of extra abilities that the original intention did not have. This includes weakening the parameters that govern reality around earth, allowing a number of hostile entities that have been seeking to enter our reality to have a much easier time bypassing the defenses that have been placed around the earth either by its natural defenses or by the foundation. In particular, this especially includes the scarlet king, who is an entity that has been seeking entry into earth, in order to essentially doom and destroy it all for his own reasons.
This is what I understood: The ritual goal was to be SCP 001 (the day of flowers) where humanity will have a mercy kill when the actual extinction of humanity will be unavoidable, but foolish of him because he only acepted the first god help he can encounter and you know "the farther the best reward possible" (and more weird and dangerous) and in his ABSOLUTE WORST possible god he encounters he find Khahrahk itself, but now the ritual is corrupted just because of the god influence, just by staying there the king has corrupted the "option for the mercy kill and another life form will begin" to "everything is going to be destroyed so badly, that there is no other life, just death". I was wandering why that entire coalition will kill any serpent's hand member in the site but with that "angel" that was no longer a guess. Those children are still in the game but very VERY good cosplaying serpents hand.
Crazy Wizard: "I'm gonna cast a spell that ends all existence." Scarlet King: "That's not cool, lemme snake in here and corrupt this spell so it's too horrific for him to want to cast." Crazy Wizard: "Aw man this is all evil. Oh well, fate cast it's hand." Scarlet King: [Pikachu face]
I think the original intention of the spell was supposed to be to somehow "reset" humanity so that in the face of an impending apocalypse humanity could have a restart, or at least as painless of a death/reset as possible. But the scarlet king corrupted it in order to bring about said predicted apocalypse, and the wizard believes that said apocalypse is inevitable no matter what, but while evil the scarlet king embodies chaos and impossibilities. Basically if the end comes now no matter what, might as well see it through with a being/spell that has the potential to at least allow for a restart after the end.

You cannot believe how much I smiled in joy when I checked the article and that the "first Great City" Scriabin mentions in his journal entries is Audapaupadopolis (SCP-4840)! This makes this SCP the first article known to me that incorporates the lore of Project: Paragon, and for that, it fills me with joy! The incorporation of Tufto's 001 proposal makes this even better, effectively serving as a lynchpin to tie this all together!
I always like these SCPs that are a doomed universe documenting the end of their universe and flinging knowledge of the thing that destroyed them out to other universes, so that other universes can prevent the occurrence entirely. It's hopeful, in a weird, terrifying way.
It also passes on the EXACT knowledge of how to destroy any/all of reality... And should that knowledge fail to be secured, contained and protected (and/or should an agent dedicated to the S.C.P. side of things come to decide that knowledge is the true path, and the correct choice to bring about the actual end to the eternal back and forth, the struggle between/the opposition of "full speed ahead to the apocalypse" and "prevent that at all costs") Dog help us all - uh, I mean God help us all to understand that from the right perspective, D-O-G spells "cat" and fuck the struggle in and of itself because THAT is what contains even the POSSIBILITY of oblivion, and the only sure way to ensure un-reality/nothing CANNOT exist. Er, double negative = a positive, right? That's just math. 😁
The existence of the wanderer's library makes that more interesting I think. If the foundation weren't on such bad terms, they wouldn't need to rely on info like this, they could just look all the world ending scenarios up. really shot themselves in the foot trying to contain the uncontainable.
So, the Himalayas are home to The King of The Mountain, who wants to kill all humans, is also a sentient mountain chain that actively wants to kill humans, and is the site of a potential ritual that can end human existence in about 6 and a half days. Why do these mountains hate us?
Been listening for ages, well back before Researcher Miller advanced to Doctor Miller. I will continue to listen for as long as you're making content, SCP or otherwise, as the quality is just a cut above. Truly enjoyed~
Been having a lot of trouble with the subjects of recent videos being so full of technobabble and new esoteric classes. I feel like I have to pause and rewind every other minute
Finally got a 1 hour upon release comment! Love your work VOLGUN! Your way of speaking is so soothing and has taught me how to deliver my words in a much easier to understand way that doesn't sound like rambling!
I do gotta admit that i miss when most SCPs were pretty simple to understand. "This book makes you play DnD in yiur dreams' or "I am literally a toaster." Now it seems like a majority are uncontainable world ending apocylpses that noone can stop. It gets exhausting having to kill 15 different elderitch gods every Tuesday.
I mean. There should be a bit of distinction. There are still alot of simple idea scps being made. But also alot of esoteric and connected lore/universe Tale Scps like this one. Limiting most people to only making one small and simple to understand scps each time is bound to kill the creativity of the fanbase. Although it is quite alienating to the folks who stuck around since the beginning with the simple ones. Although the ones who came in just because of the memes and scary spooky monster don't count.
Love this one and excited to see the text crawl. I have a problem with hearing/understanding sometimes and it helps a lot to read along at times. Happy to hear about your new pc and hope you’re doing well bud
@@OhhCrapGuy of course dude. To me, as a complete layman when it comes to things programming/ai/whatever this took, this seems like magic to me. I always thought about how hard it would be to sync the different cadences of the spoken word with the scrolling of the text so to hear that you have taken nearly all the labor out of it is nothing short of miraculous. I don’t mean to be gassing you up or swelling your head too much but be very proud of what youve worked hard on here, I don’t exaggerate when I say a nearly innumerable amount of people appreciate you for this. Thank you man
TIL there is an Abaddon class. God I love anything that deals with The Scarlet King and Serpent’s Hand Edit: you don’t call for the devil only for him to give you a smile, wink and a whistle. The devil always gets his due.
Wow, super cool how one author can write so much with so little happening. Half of this one is random apocalyptic events if the bad ritual happens, and half is magic-babble that isnt there to support anything interesting. It really feels like way too many SCPs are just a big unstoppable apocolypses with no thematic elements, no interesting chatacter perspectives, and no unifying idea to be built around
When you read out the classes can you show a little screen or page on the video showing the classes and what they mean and everything so people noodle this can understand
This is really low tier horror. Saying, "the world blows up, and there is nothing you can do," is not scarry because it removes the horror from the event.
@@barraki6706 the Scarlet King is interesting in that it is an avertable problem. Fatalism takes all of the tension out and removes the horror from the story.
SCP doesn't have to be horror, though? And anyway, if you need your protagonist to have agency, I would argue your definition of horror is wrong. Some horror is punishing people for bad choices. A lot of it, though, is about bad things happening to good people. Like, by your definition, cosmic horror can't be horror because it's all about being too small to have any significance to a god-like entity.
@@ashcombrink4998 I mean, there are some scp's that are just a pun. I forget the number, but the "Plane Doughnut" makes planes trapped on a pastry. There are even "good" scps and "slice of life" scps, but the majority of the body of work is horror. You are right in that no one owns the scp ip or can prevent anyone from posting an scp story on their blog so they do not have to be horror, fiction, supernatural, or a story. At a certain point we are not talking about the same thing if you try to make an scp story about nuns coming home for Christmas and falling in love; more hallmark than scp. There is a reason most sites that host scps have some standard for what you can post; there is some adherence to genre. This is trying to be horror and failing. Cosmic horror needs either a downfall the character does not realize yet, a flash of hope that is let down, or to reveal the Doom over time in order to have the tension that drives interest. Ie, Color out of Space follows the downfall that they cannot stop and it does not reveal they are all doomed till it is too late because the reader is learning about the phenomenon as they go... what is this color, is it sentient, is it radiation? For a little hope that is removed, you have a slasher format: the killer is loose and they are physical enough to be stopped in theory but no one manages to do it. For revealing horror over time, the Thing ends with them killing the Thing but being unable to survive the artic. We do not think about this till after the Thing is already dead because we are focused on the conflict with the Thing and Curt Russle; the Doom is only revealed at the end and they were dead from the start but they do not learn this till the end. In all three cases, you have a less interesting story if your protagonist establishes their own Doom as they lack motivation to do anything. This one was not offensively bad as I have seen some that were written by people who did not know how to write a story or use English grammar, but it is "plane doughnut" level of bad.
This isn’t relevant to this video but I still feel the need to say it… I recently discovered the whole SCP universe through TH-cam videos. And I must say… your depiction of the Plague Doctor was absolutely incredible. And I don’t mean just by Internet standards. It was a great performance. I’ve watched other channels’ videos on him, but it doesn’t come close to capturing the complexity that you did. You made him fully fleshed out and legitimately interesting. The way he seems to show legitimate remorse for killing the doctor. The way he gets flustered when seriously challenged regarding the specifics of the pestilence, the way he contradicts himself in that moment by saying “you are all sick” when he earlier said he was happy to see how little of the pestilence existed at the facility, leading one to believe the pestilence may just be his justification for murder. The voice, the phrasing (“Do not jape with me, sir!”), etc. it was perfect. My theory is that he is conflicted. At some point he became anomalous. And with this he likely gained some sort of extra sensory perception, or new senses altogether, that humans are unfamiliar with and cannot understand. This is what lets him know when one has the pestilence. And so he gets very frustrated when questioned because he can’t explain it while knowing it is true. At the same time, you portrayed him with some sense of vulnerability, where he deep down fears that he may be wrong. And so he needs to verbally affirm himself the way he did in the video. Is he someone that truly knows something we do not but can’t verbalize it due to it being beyond human understanding? Or is just a psychopath under the grip of self deception? 🤷♂️ At the end of the video I found myself saying, “Is that it?! What happened next?!”, and that is the only time I have felt that way watching any SCP video. Anyway…. Bravo. P.S. Ditch that re-write shit. That’s the dumbed down version that everyone expected. When I heard he was a guy battling an unexplained pestilence, I rolled my eyes and said “It’s gonna be humanity”. I was very happy to see this was not the case with the original and in fact was much more mysterious, which is how it should stay. People who demand answers don’t understand that mystery is exactly what makes this type of stuff interesting.
Definitely a Uncle Vulgan explains moment. I'm willing to Guess that even the most hardcore of SCP fans are going to have a hard time understanding this. There isn't a single sentence that has less than two or three four to five syllable words in it.
i mean, if you've read and understand ADMONITION or any complex SCPs like SCP-5541, SCP-7079, SCP-7555, SCP-7528, SCP-5956, SCP-6500, SCP-INTEGER, etc. this article is practically on the low end of the complexity scale compared to the aforementioned articles and others.
Yeah, it wasn't that difficult for me to understand. My guess is I'm just an above average prolific reader of the actual articles and, as stated above, of canons such as ADMONITION and Paragon. I'm willing to bet a bit more than half of the people that listen to these do not actually even visit the wiki or do so very sparingly.
"Welp, I had a bad trip, got this weird book, and now, I'm having dreams that the world is fated to end. Time to kill everyone with magic." But- "No! It's fate! I have no choice!"
If any of you are confused still as to what's going on, go read up on SCP-140. It was mentioned briefly and off handedly in the report, but it plays a critical role on understanding how SCP-7140 came into existence. An extremely brief summary of SCP-140 would be a self-writing history book of the daevish people, able to change the course of history itself as long as it has an "ink" material to keep writing with.
If anyone cares, I'm totally throwing a 7140 party next weekend. It sounds way to fun to not initiate, all are welcome, I won't bother with directions as you'll know where it's happening soon enough.
There are some mild things that dont make sense to me and that the bits with all the world ending natural disasters somehow NOT causing the death of mankind before this song finishes or the fact that the SPC's only breach containment after over a 100 hours with all these disasters happening.
FOOTNOTES 1. Avalanches are notably most common during the summer months, when snow and ice begin to loosen and melt with rising temperatures. 2. Though overtones in neoplatonic and theosophical esotericism are the most obviously noticeable influences upon examination of SCP-7140 ritual elements, they also integrate composite elements sourced from more pre-classical world mythologies, particularly the Old Daevite religious system. Additionally, recovered notes by Scriabin mention the use of musical instruments and other artistic and cultural objects of origin in non-human extraterrestrial and extradimensional civilizations as part of performing the Mysterium. 3. A creation of the conscious mind, such as a piece of media, capable of spreading within the noosphere that is capable of altering reality through thaumatological means when engaged with ritualistically by conscious entities. Research by the Thaumaturgistics Division and Noospherics Division to determine whether hypersigils function through narrative intervention and/or manipulation of probabilities, as is the case with most more spatially-localized sigils, is ongoing. 4. In both the MM/DD/YY and DD/MM/YY formats, the seventh (7th) of July is expressed as “7/7”. Though the number seven (7) has proven significant in occult workings, particularly those with pertinence to SCP-001-TUFTO and related anomalies, the use of the Gregorian calendar to implement this occult symbolism seems completely arbitrary. This is likely due to the fact that SCP-7140, an anomaly that functions within the collective unconscious, manifests through the system of time used by the majority of the world (and therefore has the majority of influence in the noosphere). 5. Measured by the Foundation of AU-7140-UK at a globally-resonant strength of 12.8 gigazöllners at stability for forty-two (42) hours. 6. Or astral projection-based "out-of-body experience", colloquially. 7. "Deities", colloquially. 8. A reoccurring span of time in the history of the planet Earth, lasting exactly one day (approx. 24 hours), during which time every flower on the planet is said to simultaneously bloom in exquisite color and variety. A Day of Flowers always directly precedes a catastrophe of immense magnitude on the planet the following day, usually representing the extinction or near-extinction of one or more dominant species. 9. Artificially Intelligent Conscript 10. A theorized subatomic particle existing only in the noosphere and dream-space which allows lucid thoughts and intentions to interact with the fabric of mental realities in which they exist. 11. The anomalous process by which a conscious intention is transformed from a conceptualization existing only mentally within the noospheric realm into an instance of psychic phenomena able to affect the physical world or the minds of other conscious entities. 12. An event in anomalous history wherein a large number of Serpent’s Hand operatives, under the guidance of O5-10, defected to the Foundation. The Alexandria incident marks an important increase in anomalous knowledge accessible to the Foundation, as significant portions of the Library were allegedly stolen or copied by the defectors during the chaos and later disseminated among Foundation ranks. 13. Mentioned texts related to the Scarlet King were provided to the Foundation by the GOC as part of an agreement between the two organizations to contain object ████ (GOC-classified KTE-2013-Kapala-Mendes, “The King’s Spears”). 14. The Russian State Library in Moscow, a site known to bear a stable translocational gateway to the Wanderer's Library which opens during a full moon. 15. In theosophical esotericism, a celestial logos is a deity that embodies and rules over a celestial body to which it its essence is bound, such as a specific star or planet. The logos is sometimes characterized as a spirit or consciousness belonging to the celestial body itself, affording it some form of conscious agency.
It's getting heavier, fells like writers are all trying to be the main character of the SCP universe by one-upping each other... We're long gone the elegant simplicity of the pre 3000 era
It's a mixture of SCP authors egos and the fans getting so damn lazy that most don't or have never even visited the wiki, so they just go to these channels ( or forbid the vapid, empty animated channels) spoon-feeding them what they want to know. If something doesn't make sense, chances are more answers are found in an additional SCP article. Just gotta...you know...read.

-"His is a raging, spiraling, insatiable typhoon of primeval wrath, gluttony, dust, blood, and corruption"... -Taco Bell ad plays. This was way funnier than it should have been.
What a shame the whole SCP worldbuilding has suffered so much power inflation. It started out with concepts inspired by the likes of shows like the Twilight Zone or the Outer Limits, but the SCP foundation were still mostly based on what a shadow organisation behind the government could feasibly achieve through extreme financial and military resources, as well as very low ethical constraints. Nowadays people writing SCPs seem to mostly want to outdo each other. The SCP foundation can travel to other galaxies and dimensions at will and have divisions of psychers, wizards and cyborgs at their disposal. It really robs the SCP universe of its charm and is remiscent of what happened to the marvel comics. In the beginning the characters were relateable but then omega mutants with godlike powers started popping up here and there, Franklin Richards got to become god and rebuild the entire universe, and so on. Part of making a story interesting is knowing how to limit protagonists and antagonists, as well as keeping a healthy level of non-explanation going to not spoil the suspense and mystery.
Indeed. It's usually best to have simple and easy to understand scps around. Because it gets people invested in it. If people aren't invested in it; it doesn't matter how good or ground breaking your writing is. People just would be too bored. 999 is just a cute and loving slime. Easy to understand, and likable. Same with 682. Or 103. But from my experience, I am and some others are alot more invested in learning their lore and backstory. And now in the scp foundation we've hit the power creep/ creative creep. Most of the writers are trying to one up another while somewhat ignoring the old lore and the established build up of the world. Although it's nothing another noncannon series of scps could make. In another universe.
See I constantly read complaints like these, and every time I do, all I can think is 'are you all dumbasses?' The scp wiki is a collaborative writing project, and while there are rules about what is accepted, those rules pertain to quality, not concept, theme, or anything else. You are literally complaining about what people are writing in their free time.
Not gonna lie. This is kinda an obnoxious article. It's overly ambitious and fails to be interesting because of how opaque it is. The overuse of extremely esoteric language gets REALLY annoying. Edit: This video is well produced as always, though. It's the only reason I was able to get through this SCP.
Question, I've always loved Scps but just when I get done with a great one and want to see if there are other connected story's and threads to expand the story, I've yet to find a good way of finding those on the wiki unless I'm doing it wrong or missed something. Where might I find a list or diagram of the connecting stories but maybe from an even bigger fan than myself, so I ask all of you. Does something of this exist with ease of use? Or does it need to be created? This community is by far one of the gems untold to those who just read the stories and stop. But those who interact with this community know what I'm talking about, so thank all of you.
You should consider bringing back the reel to reel tape recorder or some other neat vintage audio formats for the video background. How cool would it be to see an SCP file recorded on an 8 track or Minidisc player!
Volgun, I have been on your channel for more than a year, I am writing this comment to tell you, that no matter the popularity of scp you still make videos about very good scps, while most of authors on the scp wiki make trash, 30000 word scps which aren’t based on the fact of scp being creepypasta, while you continue to making videos of high quality and high quality scp. You are my favourite scp author, keep up your amazing work.
I choose to believe that Kharahk is the same as Korrok (palindrome and all) and this is therefore an intersection between SCP and John Dies at the End.
What a convenient time for a scp about the end times considering alot of " ahem " * believers * believe we're currently heading to the end times... I don't believe in prophecies all that much so I'm eh about it but I just find it funny that this vid was made during the time people think we're approaching something called revelations (in real life) which from what I can gather after listening to this is about a cosmic force interfering with the end times and speeding it up. (Really makes you wonder where the ideas for some scp come from I bet there's a few * believers * in the comments probably lol. Not trying to start a religious fight but im just noting the similarities.)

The existence of the wanderer's library makes that more interesting I think. If the foundation weren't on such bad terms, they wouldn't need to rely on info like this, they could just look all the world ending scenarios up. really shot themselves in the foot trying to contain the uncontainable.
I just read SCP 5000 and really enjoyed it for a similar reason. I'd love to hear Mr. Volgun read it out someday

So, the Himalayas are home to The King of The Mountain, who wants to kill all humans, is also a sentient mountain chain that actively wants to kill humans, and is the site of a potential ritual that can end human existence in about 6 and a half days.
Why do these mountains hate us?
Hey, can't complain tbh we've polluted even the mountains.
don't forget SCP-5140
: They've been talking with the orcas.
Also the home of the secret labs of the God Emperor of Mankind.
They're a very important and busy place, those Himalayas.
smacks of "my scp is stronger-er and bigger-er than yours!!!". can only have so many "end of universe" class events before they all get silly.
Been listening for ages, well back before Researcher Miller advanced to Doctor Miller. I will continue to listen for as long as you're making content, SCP or otherwise, as the quality is just a cut above. Truly enjoyed~
I wonder if he'll be promoted to Site Director Miller any time soon

We should all handle experiencing unspeakable eldrich horror so well.
I love that this links with Tufto’s proposal. Easily my favorite SCP-001. Great vid Volgun.
Is that a Scarlet King proposal? Edit: Yeah, I remembered that I could just look it up. That's a great 001 proposal.
How many SCP 001 are there. I am not up to speed on all of them but this is the third scp with the 001 designator I have heard?
@@lurkingllama8364 quite a lot. new ones get added all the time.
@lurkingllama8364 Each is regarded as a proposal. Since there is no actual canon, it allows for many possible 001 entries.
@@lurkingllama8364there are literal hundreds of 001 proposals.

Almost as exhausting as seeing this exact same comment repeated a million times under millions of SCP videos.

I'm elated to see so many people happy about the text crawl! It really makes all the sleepness nights worth it.
Thank you man
never in my life have i thought there would be a day where i could hear the words "theological memeplex"
What's bad is when you're far enough down the rabbit hole that you actually know what that means without having to think about it.
TIL there is an Abaddon class. God I love anything that deals with The Scarlet King and Serpent’s Hand
Edit: you don’t call for the devil only for him to give you a smile, wink and a whistle. The devil always gets his due.
Have a great day you guys, keep up the good work on the SCP 😄
Sure wish more of this was in English. The academic jargon is waaay over the top in this one
"Due to severe complications from the infected sore on his upper lip"
And somehow all the cosmic horror pales in comparison to this last sentence.
Amida and Critical..? Horrifying, I don't think I have seen any other anomaly be given such a risk class AND disruption class.
Excited to be here early.
You're the best scp narrator by far, I only wish you could do more
Is it just me or are all of these extra classes superfluous? Keter, Euclid, Safe, Thaumiel and Neutralized. Thats all you need.
Honestly, this particular SCP seems more of a case of the "evil only has to win once" trope.
The Scarlet King himself though is another problem.
This one was not offensively bad as I have seen some that were written by people who did not know how to write a story or use English grammar, but it is "plane doughnut" level of bad.
i 100% prefer this format with the long text going on the right.
Way easier to read and follow especially with non native speakers
This isn’t relevant to this video but I still feel the need to say it…
I recently discovered the whole SCP universe through TH-cam videos.
At the end of the video I found myself saying, “Is that it?!
Did you know Volgun voiced the plague doctor in the scp game?
I love that DJ Kaktus, who created the Plague Doctor, equally loved it and declared that the voice Volgun did is his official (non)canon voice.
@@vereinigtestaaten6453 woah.
That's kind of cool that this is considered a bare minimum.
Guess I'll just have to try harder That's pretty cool.

The sheer dedication to the bit by Scriabin is outstanding

There are some mild things that dont make sense to me and that the bits with all the world ending natural disasters somehow NOT causing the death of mankind before this song finishes or the fact that the SPC's only breach containment after over a 100 hours with all these disasters happening.
This Aleksandr Scriabin really knew how to party

9. Artificially Intelligent Conscript
I dont even know what the hell any of the big words mean man... am i getting dumber or is the SCP Foundation getting smarter?
It's getting heavier, fells like writers are all trying to be the main character of the SCP universe by one-upping each other... We're long gone the elegant simplicity of the pre 3000 era
It's a mixture of SCP authors egos and the fans getting so damn lazy that most don't or have never even visited the wiki, so they just go to these channels ( or forbid the vapid, empty animated channels) spoon-feeding them what they want to know.

So nothing's changed since the early days is what I'm hearing.
@@barraki6706 The days when there were less than 2000 SCPs were better.
See I constantly read complaints like these, and every time I do, all I can think is 'are you all dumbasses?'
The scp wiki is a collaborative writing project, and while there are rules about what is accepted, those rules pertain to quality, not concept, theme, or anything else. You are literally complaining about what people are writing in their free time.

Not gonna lie. This is kinda an obnoxious article. It's overly ambitious and fails to be interesting because of how opaque it is. The overuse of extremely esoteric language gets REALLY annoying.

Yo looks like the 4rth Impact is gonna be a bumpy ride.

Whoops.
