Boom fixed.....they are good mowers mountfeilds but the carbs can be a headache ordered my self a ultra sonic cleaner this is the way to go now as they get every peice of crap out as proved by you're vid great job buddy....
My rs100 was hunting badly and then packed in and would stall as soon as you tried to start it up. Followed your video and it helped me sort my problem. Didn't have an ultrasonic cleaner though so it was just boiling water and fairy for me! Thanks for saving me from having to buy a new mower 👍
next time you strip the carb,, sock the lot over night in ""Coca Cola"" that fizzy drink that rot's your teeth!,, it work's wonders on cleaning out carb's that have crud stuck inside them,, the advert was right,, they do come alive with Coca Cola!,, and no,, I am not kidding you,, it really dose work,, and better than carb cleaner,, just dont drink it after cleaning your carb in it!
This was brilliant! mine was chugging/revving or whatever you call it. Very simple to follow and now it is working like new - off to crack a beer to celebrate :)
Top tip re pressing that primer bulb. We were about to scrap our mountfield 414, but doing that seemed to keep the engine going long enough to clear whatever was blocking the carb. Still hunts a bit, but at least its usable now and saved us a complete strip down
Tried it again and soaked it in carb cleaner and put the injector and that other brass bit in boiler water with fairy liquid and cleaned the holes out with 1 strand of copper from a peice of 1mm 3 core flex. Runs sweet now. Thanks man.
Thanks for this video, although mine didn't have the exact problem in the video, you put me on the right path on how to diag the problem and solve my high revving issue. Thanks!
Hi Mick some times with these mower carburettors , you get a micro drill set and use the one closes to the jet hole just to clean the hole` sorts it out, People overlook the varnish build up on the fuel tank filter mesh restricts the fuel, , Usually the first place to go to is a vacuum leak usually on the intake manifold or carb gasket, just use carburettor spray around the area and if it stops surging then you have your leak then check the jet holes for any slight blockage on the carb, and also check any worn rubber gaskets they perish over time and allow air through, Ultrasonic cleaner works better if you use a chemical to break down varnish and tarnish sprayed in the holes first followed by a soft wire or drill bit where possible to loosen ,then like you did enter into the ultrasonic then blast air through to dry, Hope some tips helped
HI . GOOD ENGINES BUT HUNTING ON THE CARB SIDE . I HAVE ONE LIKE THIS SO I SWAP THE ENGINE OVER TO A B&S PETROL ENGINE , THEN I PUT THE RS 100 ENIGINE ON A OLD MOUNTFIELD MOWER 18" CUT .THERE ARE VIDEOS OF ME DOING THAT AND TESTING THE MOWERS OUT ON TH-cam . I DON,T HAVE A CLEANER LIKE YOU . ANYWAY I SORTED OUT THE CARB AND RUNS AGAIN AND NO HUNTING .
Hi Mick, Great video mate. Where did you buy the extension for your impact drive? I’ve recently purchased one and after a couple of uses it broke. Thanks 👍

I really find your mower repair videos excellent and educational. Inspired and for the first time, I have just serviced my 2007 Mountfield SP474 fitted with a Mountfield RV150 engine. When I took the carb apart to clean it and unscrewed the main jet, the brass "tube" with the multiple holes dropped out (sorry but I don't know it's technical name) and now I am not sure which way up to put it back when reassembling the carb. Is it the thicker or the narrower end which goes in first? I noticed you put what I call the narrow end in (at around 14 mins 11 seconds in the video) but you're working on a different carburettor I believe. Your guidance would be much appreciated.
Hi Mick, How do you remove the top covers of the Mountfield rs 100 SP164 and the spark plug? In fact the top cover looks a lot like the one in this video. Cheers
@@themowerman Thanks for your response but there is face cover it seems just like HP164. There is a screw at the back and fuel cap to remove which I have tried but the front will not lift off. It is quite annoying actually. It's my first mower. Any further ideas please? Thanks
help!!,, what could cause a Mountfield rs100 mower to start and run fine,, but without the primer pump fitted on it? if you fit the primer pump on,, the engine starts fine but stall's very soon after it start's up?,, I have cleaned every jet in the carb,, and tried socking the carb in carb cleaner then blow it through with compressed air!,, it run's fine until you try putting on the primer pump,, I even put on a longer pipe to the primer so it was easy to remove it and once the engine was running (sweet) I dabbed my finger on the primer tube to block it for a split second,, and the engine stalled right away!,, can you throw any light on what to look for?,, thanks mike
With the primer bulb fitted and the air filter cover removed. Prime the mower and look inside the carb to see if fuel is coming out of the the middle of the carb.. then let me know

Hi I have other videos on this type of mower showing how to clean the carburettor.. easy to do with very little tools.. thanks for watching

Nice job. Do you have the mini drill bits? They are great. I use them on the Honda idle circuits . It is tough though as that is a tiny tiny hole.
No mate I'm looking to pick some up

Hi bud. Yeah the the narrow bit. And when you put it in if you look inside the carb you will see it poking through into the main part of the carb

Tony Stark hi should be 3 10mm nuts to remove on the top. Then it will just come off
