Imagine if Super Mario Bros. 2 came out but instead of saving the princess or defeating an evil frog king, you have to do Peach's grocery shopping for her and Mario dies if he forgets to tie his shoes or opens a shaken can of soda.

I played this a LOT as a kid. I never left the f**king house , who would have thought you need to collect all those shitty papers using half random rules. You were a kid and just wanted to have fun , not to solve boring puzzles nor bow 100 times to move further in game. Neverhteless it was interesting game.

Same here. There’s no way I could’ve ever passed this game back in the 80’s. It took me damn near over 30 years and help from this playthrough to finish it in 30 minutes. This game was brutally hard and cryptic as all hell. I couldn’t even get the test answers right and English was my first fucking language. Even if I would’ve made it out of that damn castle, there’s no chance in hell I would’ve known to wait till 12 exactly to talk to that guard. I still love the game though

It's based by Anmitsu-Hime (Japanese Version). It's quite popular Shoujo manga in Showa-Era (Anmitsu-Hime also adapted to Anime & Live-Action)

for years some of my friends and I tried to get out of the castle, there was no internet and for us it was all a discovery, I still remember the emotion of when one morning I unexpectedly found the last piece of the map and the first thing I did was to call my friends and tell them that I had finally succeeded! I was maybe 12 or 13 years old and I couldn't save the game I couldn't record, in short they had to come and see for themselves otherwise no one would believe me 😂

Once upon a time, I asked my parents who were going abroad to get me Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle (English version) for my Mega Drive since every copy sold where I live was in Japanese (and couldn't understand). They got me this instead which I couldn't even play on my Mega Drive. So I just looked at the cover and read the manual wishing I could play it and...well, I guess it wasn't so good after all.
This was actually got me into English. I played this before the internet was a thing around here; God knows how much time I spent grinding this game hahaah
Thanks for uploading this. I first played this when I was 5 years old, that test was the hardest thing ever. I even bought a calculator just to get one question lol. It was so frustrating because all I wanted was to go fight the ninjas!
After seeing this I can see how impossible it would have been for a 5yr old to complete. I wasted so much time in that game lol.

Henry Aviator Preciso dizer que só dava para jogar com jogos na memória, não tinha entrada para cartucho. A TecToy tem vários modelos assim de Master System e até Mega Drive que continuam sendo vendidos até hoje nas lojas do Brasil. Acho que dá para encontrar em qualquer shopping ou até mesmo supermercado.

All that running around, doing nothing really meaningful, just to have it end like that, with only a few sections where you actually get to do anything remotely fun.

Games back in the day were like $80 back then. That's a lot more than what games are now. I never bought this game. I rented it at the local video store back then. Not even a blockbuster it was like a mom & pop shop back in the 80's or your local convenience store were renting video games at that time.
One reviewer thought the arcade would include a playable minigame or two...while I didn't think so (since it wasn't mentioned/hinted on the box or in the manual), given the tedious and often cryptic nature of the game, that definitely would've been a nice reward!
Played through this game back in the day a dozen times. It never says to check the guard for pass exactly @ 12:00. So much poor time spent attempting to guess the perfect time/place required to get past gate. 🤦
Watched playthrough to finally see what I failed to do way back then. Games have come a long way since then.

Holy wow, the amount of hours (and DAYS) I spent JUST in that castle. It took several calls to the old 1-800-USA-SEGA help line to get a tip. There's no way ANYONE could inherently know how to beat this section!! Crazy!

Jogo de boa aparência, mas a jogabilidade dele é estranha. Igual um pessoal disse aqui. Tentaram misturar Alex com RPG. Realmente, fiz bem nem de ter forçado a continuar o jogo em 2003. Joguei só os outros dois (Shinobi e Miracre World) esses dois sim são bem legais e interessantes para passar o tempo. Pena que os finais dos três jogos não tem tanta coisa. Outro que curti e quase cheguei no final foi o Wonderboy. Fui até a penúltima fase, mas as bonecas estavam enroladas de achar por lá 😂 mas vi o final na Web mesmo.

To this day, I am not sure what sega was trying to achieve with this game. All it did was puncture Alex Kidd's credibility as a franchise.
The game wasn't even originally an Alex Kidd game. In Japan it was based on the anime Anmitsu Hime. Maybe it would have made more sense to fans of the show?

I wonder if Sega saw how Nintendo took an unrelated Famicom game and converted it into a Mario game and Sega went "Hey, we can do that too!" so they took some crappy Mark III game based on some manga nobody's heard of and converted it into an Alex Kidd game and expected sales.

I rented this game couple of times during weekends. Never actually made it pass the 1st level (house). I think that the game was not bad but since English wasn't my native language I struggled as a kid to understand what the hell I should do.

Nah, it wasn't your struggling grasp on English, this game is legit terrible, lol. The questions and free roaming in the house are ridiculous for an action platformer like Alex Kidd. I never made it past the house either, just purely down to how bad it is.

I was also very young when i first played this, I spoke english but couldn't read yet so had no clue WTF was going on hahah. Also how good was renting games back in the day, spending ages deciding which game to rent for the weekend.
I just beat this game this afternoon after about 5 years of owning it. I don't think any other game has put more rage into my soul than this one. It took me years to finally have the patience to figure out how the hell you get the 8 pieces of paper. But then by the time I had done it I'd wasted the whole clock. So then I had to do it all over again, then figure out where the hell the hang glider is even used. So then FINALLY you get the password....the ONLY section of the game where a password is even used!!! What?!? So then you FINALLY get to the action stages....man.....This playthrough makes the platforming sections look so much easier than they actually are. I must have died over 100 times but thankfully the section after the hotdog stand is a legitimate 2nd checkpoint. I honestly hope the people that designed this game have suffered horrible deaths at this point. One tip is you can shoot the gold clouds to get 200 gold each. I also bought the bible in my playthrough, I'm not sure if it helped but I was able to rapidly pray to the gods and after about 50 times they gave me the gate ticket to get to the 2nd platforming part. The water sections and the very end part where the jumping cats come in. Jesus. And then that miserable ending, playing Outrun, yeah, I wish I had decided to do that the last 3 hours!! I can't believe I never saw the Angry Video Game Nerd do this one. But man am I satisfied I actually did it and didn't give up.

Someone named whoisthisgit makes fun of this game in one of his "Weakest Game Characters" videos. For example, there's a suit of armor and if Alex puts it on he can't move and the game ends almost immediately. Lol.
6 years later, he made a full "Worst Levels in gaming" video about the game, where the worst level is the full game. That's why i went here in the first place.

The original game this was modified from was meant to be Japan of an earlier time with modern conveniences like phones and all that, as it was based on a manga/anime series it was tied to.
The original Japanese game is Anmitsu Hime, and it's based on an anime. They just changed sprites and dialogues for the American version.
Not to mention the randomness of the paper rock scissor game. Some of the items were awesome though. It was hit or miss, but at many times it was pretty good. what a weird and awkward game.I feel like this was an early foundation for what became shenmue.aside of it's lack of hints signification in order to reach the objective,I kinda like it's free roaming aspects.

This should have honestly just stayed in Japan as Anmitsu Hime, as it originally was; they could've made a much better Alex Kidd game using some other property, but it is what it is.
The castle portion would frustrate me but I remember getting to the portion with the ninjas and think: "This is the most fun I've had on a video game". Made the castle portion worth it to me.

It was just a theory, but it turns out that this game is just a modified [for overseas] version of a game based on a manga about a princess.

Haha, nah. I mean that they changed the game into an Alex Kidd-game from its previous "Anmitsu Hime" origin, because no one outside of japan had heard of it, whereas Alex Kidd was the unofficial Sega-mascot at the time and would boost its sales.

The cover clearly shows Alex Kidd punching a ninja. Why not just lose the puzzle levels and keep only the ninja fighting levels? I often wonder if the critique puzzle elements would have made more sense to fans of the anime series this game was originally based on.

This game is kind of a letdown. I mean, when I first saw the title, I figured he'd be in some kind of futuristic looking world. Instead it's just him trying to get to an arcade with the only real padding being either having to wait a certain amount of time or trial and error with the puzzles. It's like one of those old Sierra games where one screw up meant you were pretty much screwed and had to start the whole game again.

When I had this as a kid I would group the task by floor like James and John's task. When waiting for Rockwell do the name game ect. I found it faster getting out of the castle.

We called it to beat "Alex Kidd in Miracle World". I got trapped in the Level after the Blackwooda Forest. You were meant to purchase the Peticopter from the shop to fly past the thunder clouds...but i didnt and got stuck! The HelpLine Operater was useless and told me to just keep jumping lol
Nothing passes the time like scarfing streetside hot dogs! Don't buy any cool looking Sega Zapper guns though, you'll get like, super arrested (Not lying BTW!)

I'd say if they cut out the wondering about in the castle, the waiting to get a pass and added a couple of levels like the fighting ninja ones this could have been a good Alex Kidd game. Maybe not up to Miracle World standards but probably better than The Lost Stars.

To make matters worse: Kids from non-english speaking countries couldn't even figure out this shit at all since there were no other translations.
@@melaniel.4269 Sega should've gave out questions elementary kids would know in the Western versions. I bet the kids in those Japanese schools know this because they have to study hard unlike American schools. (I have no bias about American education as I'm American.)
@@TomboyGamerGal From what i saw and understood (My Japanese is not that great and so far nobody made a proper translation) the questions in the original are more about japanese history and the anime the game was based on. Altough the stupid "Name these 6 women you never saw before" crap is also a thing.
If i'm not mistaken back then it was still Sega Japan doing the translations (hence why they sometimes are a bit of a mess, especially the manuals, for example why in Ghostbusters Gozer is called Gorza) and they might have went a bit overboard with what they thought was appropriate for western players.
I can speak a fair amount of Japanese since I've taken the language for a decade now. Yeah sometimes the translation can be somewhat off. Like in the early Mega Man games Dr. Light is erroneously spelled Dr. Right as L and R are basically the same letter in Japanese.
I actually have this game on the Sega Genesis Flashback made by AtGames, and yeah the console is outright dismal. The game can lag or freeze on me occasionally and it's really annoying. I have to make save states many times, so I won't lose any major progress if the system freezes.
And NO INTERNET at the time!
This game was the biggest disappointment of the Master System. I wanted Miracle World but it seems like it was sold out and my mom couldn't tell the difference so she got me this instead... is "High Tech World' a real place? I feel like they owe us all a refund and an apology!!
Why make only ONE map? How do they expect to get any business if no one can find them?
If you buy the wind hint for 100 gold, it tells you believe in the gods and they will show you the correct path. If you prey to them 100 times he gives you a pass. Also you can bribe the other guard with 2000 gold.
