- Unfortunately, although there are lots of fantastic levels and stages in video games, there are also a fair few awful ones.
For the thirty-first episode, I find myself covering every level from one game again, and good god, what a terrible game it is...
Alex Kidd games have always been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of quality, but they were generally pleasant enough platformers. But when a certain game from Japan was reskinned into the rather cool sounding, Alex Kidd in the High-Tech World, Alex's already shaky reputation was about to receive the biggest blow of all. Allow me to show you why...

Worst levels ever? more like worst game ever.
Who thought it was a good idea to litter the 1st platforming stage to be difficult, filled with money, and a town with purchasable items that are not only meaningless, but a waste of effort and time as the items will kill you if you pick them up, after doing what sounds like a fake gaming cheat or secret 100 times? And then do it 100 times again without the items just to get through? Glad I never played this, and what I have seen of this game; I thought being in the house WAS the game! I didn't know there was more, and I didn't think what was more could be worse!

You don't actually have to pray 100 times to get the pass, that's just supposed to be the alternate method. All you have to do is talk to the guy that says "what are you doing here?" at the gate before the hot dog stand, and if it is beyond 12:00 a guy will come out the door and recognize that you are Prince Alex and he simply gives you the pass
You can also buy a ticket at the gate if you have $2000 gold. The fortune teller tells you to go to the hamburger shop at 2:00 for good luck. When you do that, the cashier tells you you are the 10,000th customer and gives you $1000. And then the fortune teller also tells you backscratchers are good luck. Buy one and sell it to the pawn shop for another $1000. Then you will have over $2000 gold and the gatekeeper will let you pass without a ticket. There are several ways to get to the 4th stage without praying.
You missed the """best""" part of the village: the printing pass book and the press can be used to make a pass if you talk to the right villagers at the right times. But you end up getting caught for fraud by the guard anyway. In short, the village section is a complete ball-busting waste of time

Suddenly, the idea of playing Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the GameBoy sounds like an emotional and engaging journey in comparison to this game. If only more prominent reviewers like AVGN found out that this game exists, it would be a lot more notorious than Superman 64, Action 52, and E.T.
Actually, France has this TH-camr/Video Game "Reviewer" called "Joueur du Grenier" that has already played and reviewed this. It's very famous to the French gaming community because of this.

There's also a possibility that Kidd is just a massive little shit. I mean, he pra- sorry, crank calls 911, plays nicky-nicky nine-doors, constantly gets stuck in armor and falls down stairs and has to be helped, and can't even remember the name of his own servants. He also runs around and steals coins from ninjas and has to be rescued after taking a ninja star then falling in water, nearly drowning. He's also violent, carrying a pistol around like he's an American, and also going around beating up the wildlife. He participates in forgery, and is obnoxiously religious and superstitious, paying large sums of money just to get a single horoscope and then praying 100 times in a row for his own selfish gains. I would imagine that anyone in that kingdom would want Alex fucking dead at that point by the sheer force of people just being sick of dealing with all his bullshit.

oh wow i remember this game. The platforming parts was just frustrating. you're gonna love the other ways to get the pass which is cryptic in its own way. one way is you can bribe the guard with 2000 gold. the fortune teller gives you the hint on how to get the money but to even get those hints if you're not using the net you would have to collect the money in the platforming parts. 1k is with selling the backscratcher. the other is just winning 1k from the burger shop. i think it was 2 or 3 pm to get it but you just can keep going in and out until you get it.
the other way is something you wouldn't even think of trying because you showed you can get a game over doing this. but if you talk to that guard at 12pm sharp, they just give you the pass.

Actually you can make a fake pass, you need to enter a room in the village with the guy that his sleeping, he wakes up at a specific time and you can buy a fake pass from him I think, or you present to him the printer and the book I don't remember well.

Dang, I remember playing the first Alex Kidd game (the one where you beat the bosses through rock-paper-scissors) and I had a lot of fun. I didn't know it was a serie. But apparently, I also dodged a bullet.

Now we know why in your Weakest Characters Video on Alex Kidd, Gilius Thunderhead killed those Sega devs for daring to ask him to be the protagonist in this hot mess of a game.
What confuses me about this game is that you walk into town with a weapon, and it’s only when you find _another_ weapon that the guard takes issue with it, plus either of said weapons could be used to simply eliminate the guard and be on your way. But no, that bullshit where you get curbstomped in a cutscene by someone your character is entirely capable of fighting off happens instead.
This is why Sonic replaced you

I love needing a map to navigate a straight path to an arcade. Also, what's the point of the timer ending when the arcade closes? Alex will surely have a lot of fun getting to the arcade at 4:59, I guess.

A lot of people seem to hat that level, but I love it. It feels like a proper sequel to Scrap Brain, has legitimate hazards, and has great music.

Holy crap I owned this game as a kid and never thought the game went beyond leaving the castle. I had it in my mind that as soon as you left the castle, you'd instantly get into the arcade. Then again, I never bothered finishing it given how excessively boring it was. Now I'm glad I never bothered wasting my time on it, or I'd grow to be a person with severe anger issues lol

apparently in second stage (after castle) is possible to got 1000g to got the pass, have some hidden box with money, that I remember that I saw in speedrun, have two or three hidden box with golds
The book and the press actually works. But you end up with a fake pass, and you'll get captured if you show it.
You can also abtain obtain a pass by doing a quest for a sleeping samurai. Showing this pass will get you captured too
Praying 100 times is indeed the only solution.

Like the 4th one where you are forced to fight lance soldiers and armored enemies with only swords and the condition of save every prisoner to enter the gaiden chapter
Or the 10th where you must deal with a giant map full of crossbows and the fact that you must save the north house to get the rescue staff before the thief destroys it.
Or the chapter 12 where you can try to save Mareeta but she can be affected by the sleep staff of Salem and get captured before you could do a damn thing (like certain worst level ever), also you must capture Salem and complete the map before the fog of war dissapears and lose your opportunitty to enter in the chapter 12x.
Jeez, the 4th chapter alone is enough worthy of a video because how difficult and tedious it is for a pre-game, especially when you are trying to do a perfect run with no permadeaths.
I think he hasn't played the game yet, also those levels aren't even close to the bs of this series

Honestly I think the third level is the worst. I mean, levels 1, 2, and 4 are all shit, but you could conceivably finish them without a guide. You show me ONE person who would actually pick up on the entire village being a red herring and go to pray 100 times with no hint that anything could happen. That person would be a batshit insane gaming god. I am of the firm belief that nobody has actually beaten that stage blind. That is one of the worst designed levels I have ever seen.
I'm up for classic era theme but that theme gave me a headache...

Ok before it's even started proper, I need to address something. At 0:06 Alex Kidd skateboards by the dog, and the dog spins in the opposite direction. How does that work?
Also, I can't help but find it amusing that the game takes place in Edo-period (?) Japan but with arcades, computers, and modern fast food. I realize that it was probably all added from Anmitsu Hime, but still.
Don't forget the phone, and even the idea of police (the first proper police appeared in England, can't remember if in the XVIII or the XIX century).

In the original Japanese version of the game, it at least made sense since the store could be out of whatever the Princess wanted to buy the next day.
Alex either seems to think that the arcade's machines are going to somehow break down overnight or he just wants to brag about being the first kid there.

Japanese version looks like it's for comedy factor. If I knew the anime or/and manga back then, I could at least give a chuckle. However, Alex Kidd was a lame mascot, so localizing the game with Alex Kidd skin can only make him from lame to "annoying".
With this game and the enchanted castle one, it's no wonder why noone gives a shit about him.

It really should have stayed in Japan as Anmitsu Hime. It was a cheap way to make a new Alex Kidd game for Sega at the time. Instead of making something new and actually fun, they just recycled some boring Japanese,point and click RPG. The box art is even more misleading! I remember as a kid seeing Alex punch the ninja on the path on the cover and thought ''wow! This game's going to be one big, action packed adventure'', it even says ''ACTION'' on the top left hand corner just to confuse the hell out of you.
Turns out like most players, I never did pass the castle stage 1.

Because he's supposedly a prince in this game (to tie in with how the main character of the game this is reskinned from is a princess), and ninjas are assassins. Most likely, they are from another country that is not friendly towards Alex's homeland, so there is most likely a good reason that they want him dead.

There is another way to get past the town section.
In the 1st platforming stage you need to get every single coin. Not only that, you also need to shoot the yellow clouds to reveal hidden treasure chests and pick them up too. Once you're in the town, buy the backscratcher and sell it to the pawn shop for 1000 more coins. Then go to the guard and you can bribe him 2000gp to get through.
Probably already commented this in the other video, but I don't remember, so...
Alex Kidd is what we call a "Glass Cannon" type of character. He always has good hard-hitting attacks, but can't take even the weakest hits. If he were a unit in a SRPG, he'd have an attack of 100-something, but with only 1 HP and defense.
Oh! And "All The Gods" refers to all the JAPANESE Gods, which are so fucking many that even the Japanese themselves lost count! XD

When I played this game on my Master System, back in early 90s, I always thought it had nothing to do with Alex Kidd. Specially after playing Miracle World. No wonder it was adapted from another game.

The thing I most remember about this game is that I that there are some broken stairs which I didn't know about at the time and going downwards on the stairs will kill you, because you fell and broke your neck or something like that. It was really a wtf and cheap deaths game.
