@@taiyoctopus2958 probably like watching a snowboarrder straight air an 80' jump and land it easily. looks simple because of how good they are at it but the amount of awareness and understanding you need to be able to perform in such a setting is not something your average human can pull off. you have to set your line, your speed, your angle, the weight of your stroke, your balance/centre of gravity, timing on when to tuck, tuck properly to protect your shoudlers, have the ability to roll the boat in an extremely wide range of situations at high speeds, ferry against currents upstream in a way where your line setup is still possible. the list goes on. theres a lot more that goes into it than just plop off the cliff and fall off the drop and say yay at the bottom. i have been doing this for 11 years and have fractured vertebrae in my back, shattered my leg, broken my nose, and had multiple shoulder/rib injuries all just from impacts on waterfalls. some significantly smaller than this one. i actually remember hurting my shoulder in this video and took a week off of paddling. that doesnt account for the other injuries i have had from other styles of rapids or hitting rocks and things like that. if someone really wants to get into something like this they can start with a Swiftwater rescue course and try to find a local paddling club to get started and begin working their way up! or hit me up and ill try to point you int he right direction because it would be cool to see more people getting stoked on kayaking. (this comment is not aimed at you at all just more of an information piece for those who think at first glance they could easily do this)
yeah high level whitewater kayaking is one, if not the most dangerous of all the extreme sports. all of the guys i used to paddle with knew someone who had died. i knew a dude who watched his friend get ragdolled and drown and came back and worked a tour the next day.
Thanks man! Yeah it looks like an epic canyoneering spot. The gear in the lip was a funny addition to this one for us but it’s easy to miss it when you drop in.
Nice. Recognized it instantly. Went canyoneering there in 2016. I sprained my ankle on the first jump of the day (jumped wrong and hit a rock). Luckily the water was cold enough to keep the swelling down until we completed and exited back to mainland. This spot I think is near the middle of the canyon. I have photos of some of my crazier friends climbing up to and jumping off from that keyhole rock. 👌 cool kayak route. Stay safe, have fun!
The amount of things you have to keep track of and do all at the same time in this video is insane. There are so many things that can go wrong. I mean, if you even just barely clip something you could get knocked out, because you’re going so fast. Or, if you land the wrong way, you could break your back on impact. Even if the paddle just goes the wrong way, it could pull your shoulder out of the sockets and tear ligament in hand and shoulder. Wow. Just wow. This is just amazing. I’m subbed to your channel, and Dane Jackson’s channel, and you two just amaze me every time I see a video. So much practice, focus, skill, mental toughness, discipline, training, and so on and so forth. It’s a real shame you both don’t have 500k+ subscribers. Such a beautiful sport.
That is a very interesting shape that waterfall carved through that rock! Definitely a unique drop to paddle: thank you for sharing! (And no, I wouldn't run it! :-D)

The absolute coolest part of this video is how this tube was naturally created. The falls, at one time, fell over the lip you see above the hole. At some point, there was a crack at the bottom of this river, right before the falls. Water seeped through and over hundreds of thousands years, the crack became this

geology/hydrology is cool! there are other waterfalls around the world that used to be kayaked that have since eroded or caved in in ways that make them unrunnable now. its very interesting stuff but also a little sad to see some great freefall spots disappear hahaha
That looks like a helluva lot of fun, I'd love to do the tunnel but that launch made my anus cringe with anticipation of you busting your skull open on that rock. Bravo, sir.
A lot of the time if you are the first ones to run a waterfall, you would want to check the depth of the pool and landing zone in the low water season before you go there with your kayak. In this case, we were not the first crew to run this waterfall and had the beta/info of the previous guys that had given it a go and said it was definitely deep enough. The natural erosion that waterfalls create in the riverbed and rock below is also a pretty good indicator along with a couple of other little things such as the way the water resurfaces and the look of the pool at the bottom. sometimes the trained eye can tell pretty easily that the water is not going very deep. i have honestly gone off of a google image i found of a waterfall in the summer and trusted it was good to go though so there is a serious looseness to it sometimes haha. it all depends on the person/crew and their risk mitigation.
Haha yeah at first glance it was intimidating but it isn’t really in the way at all. That’s the anchor they use for canyoneering at way lower flows I’m pretty sure
