So that's why there arent that many themes on here and what is here is shit. Microsoft probably didn't want to give everyone a shit ton of themes no one would use so they basically decided to just host them on a server for anyone to download if they wanted Plus I imagine at 35 dollars they would have been selling each copy of Plus XP at a loss if they did that.

That's how I feel using the Wii U, 3DS, and pretty much any Nintendo console (that has a UI) other than the Switch, seeing their playful sound effects, UI design, and music while knowing on the Switch there's... nothing. no soul. mii maker is in settings now, no music anywhere, its just "modern" now.

I think the Screensaver deep dive would be a great idea. I also loved finding screensavers back in the day, there were some genuinely creative and cool screensavers. I just found one on my old computer that I’m wiping that had a 3D zombies screensaver and one of my favorites was a physics stick figure kung-fu battle that had a persistent leaderboard bracket of all the generated stick figures who would were generated from the sessions. I wish I still had the files for that one!
Great video, thanks for the Plus showcases, they are an unknown to me and I’ve been using windows regularly since 3.11.

In the wide and wonderful world of open-source there has always been Jamie Zawinski's XScreenSaver project. While more technical, and arguably more boring if the topics those screensavers are suppose to cover is of no interest to you, there's a lot to look at, _all without having to install it on your hard disk._
Just flash a USB device with Ventoy and throw in a distribution of interest. Good waste of an hour that'd be.

Yes, you should definitely make a video on screensavers. I used to love the ones from Windows 98, including Organic Art from Plus! 98. I was obsessed with Serene Screen screensavers, they were so beautiful. I remember seeing one in a laptop from a store circa 2007. It was a pocket watch submerged in a pond, with river stones, falling leaves and some fish, but after all of this time searching for it, I have had no luck. I still love screensavers just because they're so pretty and cool. I tried Linux Mint MATE for a while and one thing I absolutely loved is that it has like a million screensavers, but sadly the distro overall feels a bit basic for me, so I'm on Cinnamon, but I would love to find a way of installing cool screensavers, I'm sure there are ways, but I'm still a noob.

Hi Micheal. I'm wondering if you by any chance could do a video on the software bundles that came with late 90s pcs, like 97-2002 ish kind of era?
We had a Tiny Computes Pc here in the uk , i believe early pentium mmx, like 133mhz maybe or 333 i forget. Anyway it came with a huge software bundle, like 50+ discs.
Some of the stuff we got was :
    Encarta 97
    Microsoft Publisher
    Microsoft Office/Works
    The Third Dimension
    Space Station Simulator Pc (Win95)
    The Oregon Tail
    Tomb Raider
    Bodyworks:Exploring the Human Body
some weird like architect software for designing homes
some weird gardening/landscape software for designing gardens etc
age of empires i think as well
Time computers might of been the ones doing it over your side of the pond. The discs were all in jewel cases with those license stickers things on the front.
Id love to see you explore some that old software and show how much that bundled in software was a part of late 90s computing. Thanks mate.
EDIT: on ebay uk if you search 'time pc software bundle' a good amount comes up. eg ''Pc Executive Software Pack - TIME - 1997 ''

I was also really into screen savers in the Windows 3.1 through XP days. Since it took so long for most PCs to boot Windows into a "usable" state it was easier just to leave things on unless you weren't going to use the PC for an extended period of time. Plus sleep/resume modes on a desktop PC were pretty iffy for a LONG time.
I didn't have the full XP Plus! pack but I did have the screen savers from it. I can't remember how I had acquired them though. :) I also used the fish one for a number of years.

Aquarium screen saver author is Jim Sachs from Serene Screen - there's a video in that, it was used in all kinds of things back in the day and the company is still going.

I bought this screensaver many years ago, and still use it. Whatever the latest version is. Love it.

My favorite XP theme I think was a Zune theme. Orange Start button and a black theme. I’d love to see it in a video someday.

You should check out Windows Vienna. It's a modified version of vista with a new theme, new gadgets, and maybe also extended kernel, which is another thing for vista.

I still use a screensaver to keep from having my desktop icons burn into my LED screen - which has happened. Thankfully the burn in wasn't bad enough and I was able to fix it by just keeping a blank white image full screen on the monitor for several days while I was at work.

Ah, yes. The Latitude D610. If it wasn't one of these, it was a Dimension of the grey box variety... What a wave of nostalgia. lol

I think i remember this, or maybe it was Win98 Plus! but it might had been this... i remember placing animated Diablo1 and King Of Fighters 98 Gif files right on the desktop as part of the Wallpaper, and i don't quite recall if it was an addon to Win XP or what it was. I recently got a Pentium3 and set it up similarly to the one i had back in the late 90's so i might give it a look into this XP Plus! disc.

That was probably Active desktop a feature of IE being integrated into the os you could make a HTML file a desktop. Plus 98 included a lot of themes that used AD.
