Design Projects From Difficult Bitmaps [Bitmap Tracing Isn't Enough] - Maltese Cross Fire emblem

  • This video teaches you how to design from complicated bitmap images to vectors in the Vectric software when bitmap tracing image to vector doesn't work well (vcarve desktop, pro & Aspire). Bitmaps are one of the most common baselines Vectric users start from. they often get stuck well into the design process because they don't know how to work with more complicated bitmaps.
    This Vectric tutorial teaches many tips and tricks with Vcarve and Aspire with a fire department maltese cross emblem, on how to break down the bitmap and build designs from it. We use the firefighter's shield of life as an example to design from.
    you will learn how to use array, vectors, nodes, circular copy, bitmap tracing, and many other aspects.

    Hi Garret,
    Have had V Carve Pro for many years and spent fruitless hours trying to close vectors that wouldn’t close.
    My eyes lit up when you suddenly had the same problem, boy did you make me sit up in my chair.
    Great to see you step back and find the problem and how to correct it.
    Especially if you can not move on and being continually bombarded with open vector notifications especially on complicated drawings.
    What a pleasure.
    Thanks

    A recent subscriber, I have been contemplating on purchasing a cnc router. Was originally thinking of onfinity, but after seeing several of your videos, I have decided on the longmill, so thank you. I have had a boss laser for a few years, so it is not totally new to me.
    I two was a FF/EMT, retired after 34 years. Volunteer Chief for over 30 years and paid interim District Chief for approx 2 years. Thank you for your service.
    I also designed our challenge coin using my cnc software. So I am aware of the challenge in creating from a bitmap.

    Garrett, it's been a long day and I've spent it all with your training videos. Awesome learning!!! I have literally gone from not knowing how to even do "anything" to now I'm learning how to build a bit map! Wow, there's progress. Last night I was overwhelmed thinking I had made a huge mistake getting into all this, but now I have much renewed hope. Thank you! I've spent 15 hours today learning from you and I am so pleased. It will take tons of hours for me to learn more but I'm willing to put in the time. You make the learning so much easier than I have gotten up to this point from other sources. Thank you again. I have listened and ATTEMPTED to learn from many "instructors" on youtube in regards to making projects on my CNC and to fully use my software that I purchased with it. And after every "lesson" I almost hit my head against the wall. Then I found Garrett and it is like I was reborn!! Garrett....you state you are a fireman by trade in your past life but I think you missed your teaching calling. You are the BEST and I really appreciate your videos!! You apologize on the longer ones but the good thing is that if they are too long people can pause them. But I finally have LEARNED from YOU....how to design projects from bitmaps, text on text signs, and how to use my expensive software in a better manner. THANK YOU for taking your time to do that for myself and others. And I agree with you in your video I saw last night. You mentioned how some things really touch the heart of people. I served in the Marine Corps for 26 years and then another 10 in the Idaho State Police, and my "I love me " wall has so many of the plaques I received. So now I can use my CNC to help me create new styles for my Marine and law enforcement brothers and sisters. Thank you....thank you...thank you!! You explain it simply and in detail and that is so motivating. I had one months ago I watched of a gentlemen on TOT and I was more lost after the hour video than before. Not with you....you got through my brain housing group on the first video....and now I REFUSE to watch another person at all!! And now I am not going to have to pay Axiom $300 dollars to learn what you offer me here. By the way...I feel for you 100% about losses on the job. I have been on too many crashes with the loss of children and still ache. And my heart hurts for you in regards to your grandson as well. Thank you brother for your service here and on the job as a firefighter!! Semper Fidelis

      That fire run was the last one I was on as life was going in a new direction.
      I had a thought about losing people in accidents and fires like this. It hurts when we lose a child. However, we also saved many more in our career journeys.

    Thank you for this and all your other excellent videos, Garrett! Great explanations and really a well of priceless advice. I have a question - is there a point of using 3rd party specialised vector or 3D software giving the advantage of constraints and parametric modelling and other stuff for carving designs, the pros and cons of importing them into Vectric? Do you think it will be a time-saver or are there are downsides of importing 3rd party CAD to Vectric CAM (mainly 2D or 3D for more complex designs)? I am building a budget MPCNC project right now and hence looking into the possibilities to optimise the projects for one-person manufacturing, especially when not using the Aspire version. Cheers from Russia and best wishes to the channel!)

    • @IDCWoodcraft
      @IDCWoodcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ban. It really depends on the software and the models/vectors you import. The software I use is very powerful. It is more aesthetic design software, rather than engineering, so there are are some limitations. You sound like an engineer, so, what types of projects do you want to do where these questions are relevant?

    • @ValeryOsipov
      @ValeryOsipov 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IDCWoodcraft Thank you for your reply. I'm neither designer, nor engineer. I'm a lawyer in fact) I'm asking because I do believe in the beauty of geometric proportions and numbers in the backstage of any design or drawing. And preliminary engineering becomes even more relevant, when a project contains some sort of complicated repetitive ornaments, which have to be calculated in the first place.

    Bitmaps aren't really complicated if you use the right software, I haven't got my cnc machine yet (as I finally made up my mind which one ima get) but I am pretty good with adobe photoshop and adobe illustrator. With illustrator you can trace basically every bitmap picture (As it has many different ways to trace the image) and save as a vector and cuts alot of the editing and manually tracing times in half. Working through this tutorial and after creating the complete badge (from the very beginning) I discovered a couple of things right at the point where you discovered the outside circle doesn't quite touch the crown vertical lines and can't be properly snipped. While my version has the same issue, I discovered a couple of other issues: somewhere along the way the layers changed and all I have on the Body layer are the two inside circles. Everything else up to the current progress (about mark 46.04 on the video) resides on the detail layer. Also, I am unable to select any of the badge items to edit; for example, if I try to select a line anywhere, the entire project is selected with a solid line rather than a dashed line. I find that I cannot edit in this particular condition. As a matter of fact, the only editable items are the 3 inner circles while I have the details layer on and the body layer active.
    I discovered that all objects had been grouped and had to be ungrouped if I wanted to edit any of them. I'm curious if this is a typical design occurrence, or did I somehow mess something up?
    This is a great tutorial by the way, and I've worked through it - up to the point of discovering the layer issue - 4 times now. I could proceed, and have actually gotten to the point of adding the jaws of life icon and the fire nozzle, but eventually my project doesn't quite match yours and I start over. In some ways that's actually good as the repetition of using the various design tools becomes more familiar and I can get through the process much faster!

    An easier way to align the graphic is to grab "construction lines" in the ruler. Just left click in the ruler and drag down or across and you will pull a guide line out of the ruler, With snap turned on you can place the line on any coordinate. If you don't like the position you can grab and move it. And if you don't want the line just drag it back into the ruler. You can make as many of these lines as you want.

    Garrett asked me if I would comment on the Text on a curve issue he was having. If you cut the vectors so you have two half circles when you select that line and text on a curve the text will automatically jump to the top or bottom depending on which one you select.

    • @timbufordbriggs
      @timbufordbriggs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can also create the circle, hit "N" to node edit, set the node at the top as the starting point. (The text starts along the curve at the starting node). You will then see a little arrow pointing either left or right at the node. You can right click on that arrow to change the direction. The text will follow the direction that the arrow is pointing.
