Thanks Will. Good stuff. You didn't mention if you had verified that the bad relay was an actual Heathkit part number and was in fact the correct part to be there. It sure appears that someone either was trying to find a substitute relay earlier, got the wrong type, and gave up, or your rig was used as a parts rig for another repair. But having the luxury of a known good rig definitely aided in a quicker repair. "Good to know" stuff for the rest of us. Thanks for sharing.
You might want to save those old relays and try to rebuild them! A suitable replacement from Digikey is $90+ depending on coil voltage. The one you replaced looked like it had a pivot problem. Take two old ones and try to make one good one. I do that a lot with equipment I deal with. Great HW-101 videos! I am just starting a restoration on one that's in fairly good condition. What you show us will make a big difference in what I do.
