@@kvitravn6354 Brilliant idea, I reckon I could spend nine days at time pouring over various texts by candlelight in a big chair with a horn of mead. Especially if I can get a pipe or cigar going the hold time. Just leave the cares of world behind.

All solid picks. And you make a great point about keeping the faith living and breathing. The measure of a heathens faith should not be in their collection of books or in academic achievements, but their practice.

Strangest thing, my grandmother gave me that Complete Brother's Grim book when I was young. It was one of the very last things she gave me before she died. I always thought it was weird cause at the time I was a pretty self centered child and didn't know any better about the world - like we all do. However, growing older and growing into Norse paganism, it has come to my attention that might of been for a reason, and for it show up on your list - makes me think of her closet thing I had to a mother. Thank you again for your wisdom as always, Skal.

For beginners I'd recommend the Prose Edda first, Saga of the Völsungs second, and Poetic Edda third. The prose edda, being prose, is very easy to understand. Saga of the Völsungs has the story of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer, arguably the most important story and again told in prose. Much of the poetic edda is dedicated to telling the same story, but it's a lot more cryptic with more contradictions and such. I love the poetic edda, but especially if you get an antiquated translation, it can be pretty opaque at first. And Jackson Crawford's translation is easier understood, but you lose something of the poetic feel.
Eventually you should try to get into the original language at least a little bit to fully appreciate the poetic edda :)

Great video brother, a nice overview guide of some very good literature to check out. I've got many of these books but I see a few I don't so thank you for the recommendations, I have been practicing for over 12 years, definitely a lot to digest to expand our knowledge and practice.
Hail to the Aesir and Vanir, Skal!

Thank you. I actually took you up on your other recommendations "Asatru for beginners". It's a very short and pleasant read! I got some inspiration out of it and I like that the author seems to be completely unprejudiced.
The Grimm brothers are so fascinating. They did so much for German language, our folklore and basically uniting a nation through that, or trying to, that was and still is not a real nation.
I always struggle with book recommendations though. I'm German and our faith was once the same or very similar, but it is insanely hard to find books about it or books in German in general. My English is good, but I often find it hard to read english translations. I had that problem when reading the Finnish Kalevala. The english translation wasn't for me and I got the German one. But yes, it's hard to find good books about norse pagnism in German and I'm not always in the mood to dig through early 19 hundreds books and filter what is true and what is propaganda. There are some useful books there, but it's a very hard read.
Haha and no, not getting the Edda in old norse. I struggled with Das Nibelungenlied in old German already....

Yes! I just ordered Myths and
Symbols for my TBR (to be read) stack! I'm currently reading PaGaian Cosmology by Dr. Glenys Livingston. The first chapter hinted at more information to come on stone circles and creating them for individual ritual and meditation. I think I'm having a nerdgasm.

How close is germanic paganism and norse paganism? From what I have been reading they are very similar, but if I am wrong please let me know. Thank you very much for all of the information you have been putting out on your channel

I’ve read Myths of the Norsemen from the Eddas and Sagas by H.A. Guerber, and while it was a great supplement to the Poetic Edda, I was turned off by her use of the word “ignorant” when referring to the Pagans of the viking age. It was 1908 & she was a Christian, but still..

I'd advise any Germanic pagan to read Proclus or the Platonic school to get a idea of polytheistic theology.

Gotta be honest as a Norse pagan I do get upset seeing channels/videos sharing knowledge and advice with the modern world on how to practice the Ásatrú religion. People treat it as a fad, corporations profit off of it, no respect or dignity is given to the religion or the ones practicing it.
